Perhaps Canada could be invited to form an alliance with Europe. Add Australia and South America.

The US is ruled by brain dead will wanging idiots. Not surprised that Putin loves Trump. Made from the same slimy cloth

America isn’t just ruled by them, it’s full of them. Hence how Trump was able to secure power again

Coolasfeck · 01/03/2025 07:36

Listened to the latest Rest is Politics podcasts both UK and US. Sobering stuff. Our path through this is for UK and Europe to band together.

We also need any remaining sensible Republicans to defy MAGA death threats and link up with centrist Democrats to form a new party.

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 07:40

Europe SHOULD be taking responsibility for this though, and leading the way. Given Russia’s next move was going to be Poland - an EU country - of course Europe need to step up. They can’t keep hiding behind the US indefinitely.

Whilst I fundamentally disagree with Trump on almost every issue, I do understand why the Americans might be ready for Europe to actually take care of their own citizens and borders, and invest and be ready to defend themselves, as independent wealthy nations.

I think I actually detest Vance more than Trump after watching that. And that’s saying something!

Me too. For the most part, Trump looked like a bewildered uncle who has eaten too much Christmas dinner and just wants to stick the King's speech on tv and have a snooze. I believe Vance is an incredibly dangerous man with way too much power. It almost looked like he was the one calling all the shots. Sad, and dangerous, times.

The US has given Ukraine 360 billion dollars , it is only right that it needs to be paid back. All of Europe has been made whole for the money they loaned. The world needs to start taking care of itself . Also did you know that Zelensky last year bought a 25 million dollar house in Florida? Wonder where that money came from?

Stop lying

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 07:58

Just watched the meeting and DH and I were open mouthed! What an absolute embarrassment Trump and Vance are. Shameful. Zelenskyy was amazing in that very difficult situation. So good to hear all the positive support statements from other world leaders since.
Would love to see Vance in a room with Putin telling him how out of order he is for invading a country. Coward.

EsmaCannonball · 01/03/2025 08:10

The trouble is it is the western world leaders who have come out in support of Zelensky. The majority of world leaders, the ones who want a new world order run by gangsters and dictators, are delighted by this. Have you seen the way the UN has been operating lately? These leaders are ganging up on democracies.

So long as it’s American weapons they invest in, obviously. If we don’t buy everything from the US, they won’t be friends with us any more. And with friends like these, who needs China? 😂

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 08:13

If you listen back it kicked off when Zelenskyy mentioned that it might be a US problem soon and there was only water between the two…. That’s the point isn’t it. The US see this as a major risk to global security, with the potential to blow up into a world war - Ukraine are fighting for their own survival and it would serve them well (and Ukraine have tried to trigger article 5 more than once) for this blow up into a world war, and ease the pressure on them significantly. I can really see the different angles on this. Why it is so contentious.

The US do not want to be dragged into a world war, so Zelenskyy’s comment was very ill advised, a trigger so to speak.

Zekenskyy is my hero - always has been - but he needs to get out of the trenches for this next stage and come to the table in a calm, proactive manner and engage with a peace process, because this war does need to end. Some trust needs to be found. Some movement has to take place, and NO, American troops cannot be put in to Ukraine as a ‘security guarantee’ or otherwise. This would be beyond inflammatory, and could very will trigger WW3 and Zelenskyy should not be asking for this. UN peace keepers only.

What proof is there that Russia had any interest outside the Ukraine's mineral supply? Putin has stated many times that he has no interest in Poland/Latvia etc.
Zelensky is worth millions. He has a vast selection of suits, but putting one on breaks the image he's created.

No it kicked off when some twat reporter criticised Z for not wearing a suit! Then Vance thought he was impressing his idiotic groupies by being the big bully.

The US is threatening to invade countries, and it is telling g Russia that it won't stop Russia invading Europe.

We are barreling towards war, thanks to Trump.

No, Trump became extremely agitated when Zelenskyy mentioned that the war might come to the US. Watch it again. That’s when things really deteriorated.

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 08:21

Russia have failed in their mission. They are now out of conscripts, ammunition and weapons. They become more dangerous not less when they run out of options. Please consider how Russia might end this war without diplomacy? The west again are becoming far too complacent about a cornered Russia. Seriously.

ScrubbedCauliflower · 01/03/2025 08:27

I’m sickened to my very core after watching this. It’s of course being repeated on the news over and over and I’ve had to switch over as I’m so upset and angry.

As a family we’ve decided to not holiday in the US while these pigs run it and have actually avoided it since 2017 anyway. Why anyone would want to go there at the moment is beyond me. I’ve seen lots of travel companies promoting Canada as a destination at the moment. We will be boycotting everything else American that we can too and donating more to Ukrainian charities. One family boycott won’t make much difference, but it’ll make us feel perhaps a tiny bit less completely powerless in the face of these scum.

I also feel sorry for the American non Trump supporters vacationing in Europe going forward, many won’t be getting a good reception. I work with an American lady who now lives and works in London and she said it was bad enough for them travelling during the last Trump term (and during the Bush years).

Let’s hope most people won’t stoop to taking out their feelings on innocent visitors. A more mature way of dealing with it, is maybe to understand there are many sides to this war and everyone has their own opinion. Americans have stumped up an incredible 360 billion dollars to help Ukraine - so I’m not sure why you would wish to be rude to them.

Euproe’s economy is struggling enough without losing affluent US visitors 🙄

You keep saying $360 billion lie hoping it will stick in people’s brains. It doesn’t work. It’s a lie.

Good. Hope you stay there by yourself and stop posting.

Don't try shutting people down. Everyone has a right to post, whether their opinion aligns with yours or not. I think yesterday's televised discussion was bad, but America have a point if they want to step back from shelling money out when there is currently no prospect of an end date. At least in his clumsy way Trump is trying to get a deal in place to end the war. Unlike hand wringing europe who have no solutions other than to throw money into a pot indefinitely.

Can you attach some evidence that it’s a lie please? It wasn’t just hard weapons but also for the last ten years the U.K. and US have been training and providing support to Ukraine, and have been delivering strategic assistance. I believe the US was the main contributor to supplying Ukraine. The war would have been over in hours without it.

I feel the same. Don’t want to go to Trump’ s America.

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 08:39

Of course no one is safe, but they are less safe without a peace deal. We have to descalate the war do you agree?

So now the only question is how do we achieve that? The fact is Ukraine haven’t won this war outright, and nor are they going to. It will just run and run. All the while the risk of it ending in wider conflict continues to rise.

No it doesn’t work like that. It was you who provided a figure saying America had given $360bn to Ukraine. It is for YOU to provide a source for that figure.
