Life is is much more than marriage with 2 kids, a dog, and a house with a picket fence.
Of course it is. there are millions of ways to live a life different from this and loads of people do - creative, unconventional, on the road or otherwise “different” lives. In fact probably 99% of people don’t have exactly that “picket fence” life because actually everyone is different and most people are pretty accepting of that (something that self-appointed “ooh I’m so different/countercultural and special me” types often fail to notice).
Cutting off your nose however is worrying to most people. Because it’s irreversible, fairly serious damage, and our instinctive reaction to it is alarm and anxiety because we associate it with injury - and as self-harm like that often is linked to possible MH issues, we worry that she might regret it and it’s irresponsible for anyone to do it for her.
Of course people make choices to do this stuff in order to shock and upset what they see as boring old picket fence types. The more they can upset and alarm people, the more they can tell themselves that others aren’t “accepting of difference”.
