I’m not highly educated or hugely politically savvy. But like many people, I’m horrified by Trump and Musk’s approach, propaganda and ideology. It’s increasingly possibly they will take the world to a very dark place. I keep thinking, surely there are enough counter powers - people with power and influence, leaders from business, media, the arts, politics across the Western world to try and counter some of their rhetoric. I’m not naive to the immense power they hold, but surely reason, sense, logic and hope will win over?

The exact phrasing escapes me.

But there is a difference between 'if you are rich you can just grab women by the pussy' and 'there are some women who will just let you grab em by the pussy if you are rich.'

If I had had a vote in the last US election I may have compiled a more comprehensive list of reasons for debates such as this but I didn't. I know many many Americans did, and a man who was roundly vilified, branded a misogynist pschycopath, a racist, a clown, won outright. Despite everything.

He was seen as better than the alternative. There are lessons to be learnt from that.

Thank you for the interesting conversation. I have learnt and absorbed even more than before. I am just as confident now that the right person is in charge for the foreseeable future as I was a few hours ago.

I am only one person on a forum, I am anonymous and open minded, I am intelligent and engaged and have responsibities in real life. So, food for thought for you guts, maybe? Or not. Sleep well, notwithstanding xxx

Lots of people were manipulated into voting for Hitler too. They took thought they were making logical and rational decisions. Maybe they took focused on some narrow point he was making that they agreed with rather than sitting back and seeing the bigger picture.

Your suggestion that one of those phrases regarding pussy grabbing would be fine and not the other is somewhat astonishing

rabbitwoman · 20/02/2025 23:19

'How do you feel about Andrew Tate?'

He is vile. But he is nowhere near political power and never should be.

There’s no difference whatsoever. It’s disgusting misogyny regardless.

I dont see anything different between Andrew Tate, Musk (who controls Trump) and Trump. They all have a shared set of values.

"I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything."[1]

I think it’s pretty clear. ‘I don’t even wait’.

neverthelastone · 20/02/2025 23:22

Now, I think my post upthread was censored because I mentioned Trump sexual abuse allegations (I think so, anyway); so here’s a link for you. Check out Wikipedia, a range of news sources, whatever. But are you going to dismiss all these, as Trump does, as “lawfare”? Or, might we reasonably surmise that if you accrue this number of sexual harassment allegations and are also captured multiple times on film talking in similar terms, that possibly you are not a bastion of chivalry? (Remember those lovely videos of Trump making fun of disabled people, too. That also really makes me think he’s just a great guy!)

So you find it abhorrent that Trump has asked Romanian authorities to lift restrictions? Or is that okay?

I don’t see the difference between the remarks. I’m relieved this country isn’t being led by someone talking about grabbing women by the pussy.

Llttledrummergirl · 20/02/2025 23:23

Yay, we have our buy 2 get one free offer again. It must be blame the left for the actions of the right day today. What will tomorrow bring? Trump the messiah? Musk the miraculous? Putin the perfect?

Tune in for the next episode brought by our next 3 narrators.

Anyone who thinks Trump is dignified is in cloud cuckoo land.

ilovesooty · 20/02/2025 23:23

rabbitwoman · 20/02/2025 22:13

I said trump seems 'a little more dignified' than he was before and I gave a reason. And you didn't read what I said and went straight to telling me I was an idiot and hadn't seen his speeches and all the crazy things he has said.....

And I think that proves my point.

David Lammy called me a dinosaur, hoarding rights. Keir starmer told me I shouldn't say only women have a cervix. I get safeguarding training on how to spot FGM, forced marriages, how to spot CSA, but heaven forbid anyone should even mention grooming gangs.

Should I vote for them anyway? Despite the contempt they have for me?

Is there something wrong about the safeguarding training you mention?

In @rabbitwoman defence she is right, there is a nuance between the first sentence and the second. They aren't saying the same thing entirely.

Still a bloody disgusting thing to come out with though 😒

Yup. Still disgusting.

'Your suggestion that one of those phrases regarding pussy grabbing would be fine and not the other is somewhat astonishing'

One is consential. One is not. Astonishing that you can't see the difference is not the word.

And I don't have the energy for a debate on that, but I am satisfied that it was stupid, locker room banter. If you're not, that's fine.

I find Clinton's behaviour with much younger, impressionable interns more revolting. That definitely coloured my opinion of someone who would run alongside him. But that's me, and at least the Clintons are far removed from power now.

One day trump will be too.

Do sleep well, everyone.

neverthelastone · 20/02/2025 23:32

More Trump:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.JeanCarrollv.DonaldJ.Trump

Just to add to his 32 felony convictions from last year that the judge was too scared to sentence him for. Or anyone want to explain those away, too?

Perhaps a little diversion on how Putin, a famously ruthless KGB murderer, is just standing up against gender ideology when he has all his political enemies poisoned by radioactive teapots or pushed off balconies? I’m sure we can find some positives in his character! Do we love a strong leader, ladies…?

Brinny · 20/02/2025 23:32

neverthelastone · 20/02/2025 21:46

Have you lost your mind? Trump has grown gracious, humble and dignified?

Have you actually listened to any of his recent speeches? Like the ones threatening Zelensky by repeating false propaganda? Or the ones denouncing his political opponents? Or the ones spouting unhinged and fact-free nonsense about NATO? Or the ones in which he threatens to annex Canada and invade Greenland? Or the ones where he rants about immigrants and tariffs?

Do tell. I’m looking forward to the explanation of his very humble new aspirations to invade other sovereign nations. Liz Truss has just given a speech about how much we should admire and envy Trump.

Come to think about it … Liz, is that you…?

Omg Truss Farage , she is an idiot for a start , and as a Brit no I could never ever want to be ruled by a government such as Trumps. Farage also , why is he not here sorting out his own countries issues and that of the people who voted for him I. His own constituency. Not in the USA , Their are very level headed people in America as there are here, but many are swayed by false Information , lies and abuse of other parties , just like the false information given by Farage when we had to vote either to stay or leave the EU. I tend to read the facts before making any decision, let's face it , you would read the small print prior to signing a house ,loan or car agreement would you not, I do the same for my future and that of my children.

Yes sleep well. You can't say we've not asked for your opinions and I hope you've felt listened to on here. Even though your stance on women's rights now hold much less water for me than when you first entered the thread. Night.

rabbitwoman · 20/02/2025 23:34

Well, look, as a last word, as I have just read the last few posts, I will just say that DESPITE EVERYTHING, the allegations, the stupid behaviour, the misogyny, whether it be misinterpreted or misreported or whatever Trump said, did not say, did or did not do, whether I defend it or condemn it..... It's too late.

He won.

“I don’t even wait’ is pretty clear that he doesn’t get consent. Otherwise what else is he not waiting for? Either way it’s a gross way to treat and talk about women and it belies his complete and utter contempt for anyone he sees as lesser (eg mocking someone with disability).

Ah I get it now. Thanks for showing me the way. If an argument doesn't hold up to scrutiny, we should all vote for self-serving egomaniacs and have more of the same. Got it.

Oh honey.
Hitler won too. (Originally). It doesn't mean the people who thought he was good news were right.

rabbitwoman · 20/02/2025 23:39

AND HE STILL WON!!!

He was still considered better than the alternative.

If I have given the impression I am thrilled with that then that's my fault, because the point I am trying to make is that however awful he has been made out to be, the powerful and rich who spoke against him could not persuade the voters they were better.

I am interested in figuring out why. For next time.
