Need a OTT message for a goodbye card to nasty colleague.

Posting here for traffic.

For the last 4 years, I have worked with an older male colleague who made my working life hell. Long story short, he would gaslight me, take credit for my work and ideas and put me down at any given opportunity which made him look good to others. He is idolised in our department by some, including our line manager, who at the time, would play down my concerns, even with written evidence and screenshots.

Anyway, he has just announced he is retiring and a card is being sent round the team to sign.

I know if I don't sign it, it will look like he has got to me (which he has), but I don't want to give him the satisfaction of that, so I thought of writing something over the top, that to anyone else reading it when signing it, won't see I'm being sarcastic and already counting down the hours until he goes!

Yes this is probably petty, but I know mumsnet is great for things like this to help me with.

Good Luck, WorkRelatedName

That is all I would put

Hankunamatata · 20/02/2025 14:38

Tempted to write

I would literally just sign bame

CuddlyDodoToy · 20/02/2025 14:38

I think a lot of these suggestions will damage you more than him, especially if he is "idolised". You will make yourself look petty, not clever.

I suggest you either don't sign it at all, or just sign your name.

Get your satisfaction from the fact that you won't have to work with him anymore.

Zusammengebrochen · 20/02/2025 14:38

Get well soon?

“Farewell Bob”

Short and generic.

This! It smacks of “I don’t give a shit”

BluebelllsRosesDaffodills · 20/02/2025 14:38

Something like this?

Need a OTT message for a goodbye card to nasty colleague.
MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 20/02/2025 14:38

In a similar situation one of my colleagues wrote "Bye." Seemed quite effective.

Something like this?

Auf Wiedersehen essential means until we see each other again....not sure OP wants to say that.

Plest · 20/02/2025 14:39

I’d just sign your name and don’t give any money. Sends enough of a message.

evilharpy · 20/02/2025 14:40

Just put

Regards,

Titasaducksarse · 20/02/2025 14:40

This scenario happened to me. I wrote 'I hope retirement gives you everything you deserve'

maudelovesharold · 20/02/2025 14:22

‘I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed working with you, or how much you’re going to be missed! The place won’t be the same without you!’

Oh this is PERFECT. Completely accurate, yet nobody could take exception to it because of the colloquial meaning of 'I can't tell you'. Chapeau.

DoloresODonovan · 20/02/2025 14:41

so in the end, I win!

CurlewKate · 20/02/2025 14:41

Just sign your name. Don't waste mental energy on him.

‘I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed working with you, or how much you’re going to be missed! The place won’t be the same without you!’

That's perfect. Reminds me of a literary agent who wrote, "Thank you for sending in your book. I shall lose no time in reading it."

BunnyLake · 20/02/2025 14:41

Just a ‘Goodbye’ and maybe a drawn handwave?

BorneoBop · 20/02/2025 14:41

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

verycloakanddaggers · 20/02/2025 14:42

All the best, name or don't sign at all.

You're wasting head space on this.

He may have 'decided' to retire due to the issues. You don't really know. But he'll be in your past very soon.

monsterfish · 20/02/2025 14:43

TTFF and don’t look back.

user1471556818 · 20/02/2025 14:45

I just signed my name and didn't waste a second on any of the rubbish

VisitingTrumpton · 20/02/2025 14:45

I cannot say enough good things about you.

HabitHoarder · 20/02/2025 14:45

How wonderful to hear of your retirement plans! The team will be very different without you. I won’t forget your impact on my role. Kr, …

Daisymae23 · 20/02/2025 14:46

‘I really enjoyed our trysts in the copier room. Xox Miranda’ and hope that his wife sees it and has questions 😂😂😂

jusy kidding… just write - all the best, regards. Don’t give him anymore head space

PleaseDontFingerMyPouffe · 20/02/2025 14:47

Bye Felicia

Printedword · 20/02/2025 14:48

Just sign your name, in a corner somewhere. In the days when collections for presents were cash, it was possible to signal disapproval by putting in a small sum, 10-20p says more than not putting any in.

We had one of those parents in DCs first primary who would organise gift vouchers for class teacher and TA. The TA requested sum was less. One year I asked to reverse the sums as TA was lovely and teacher was annoying.
