Delivery man using toilet

Fountofwisdom · 20/02/2025 10:59

I admit I am a bit of a clean freak at best of times. Can’t bear people wearing shoes inside etc. But really don’t like workmen, etc using my bathroom.

A delivery driver arrived earlier with some kitchen appliances, just delivering, not installing. He asked to use the bathroom and I immediately wanted to say no, as I HATE strangers in my bathroom. But didn’t feel I could refuse.

So he was in bathroom for a minute or so and went on his way. I went in to clean the toilet as I always would, and not only had he used it, but he left a big black pubic hair on the toilet seat 🤮🤮 Absolutely revolting.

Have spent 5 minutes deep cleaning and disinfecting toilet and have put the hand towel in wash because I’m so disgusted.

AIBU to refuse access to my bathroom in future? Or am I over-reacting?

i will have builders in for 2 weeks shortly and obviously they will want to use the bathroom, which I’m not delighted about but can’t be helped. Means I’ll have to clean the toilet every day, but I can’t refuse them using it.

But random delivery men - would you refuse? And what would you say?

You disinfected the toilet because of a pube? That sounds a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I might disinfect it if it was left with someone else's poo in it but a pube is just cosmetic and easily removed, surely.

KilkennyCats · 21/02/2025 00:10

I love the notion that the hair from a random stranger’s nethers is simply a cosmetic trifle.

Incakewetrust · 21/02/2025 02:56

Yes 100%
it’s called OCD and one of my triggers is hair 🙃 doesn’t matter where from the body it falls off but if I see a loose hair, I feel physically ill.

BustingBaoBun · 21/02/2025 05:09

I really want to know how some stranger you have built a rapport with is cleaner and less germ ridden than someone who you haven't got to know so well. Each category of person will still have pubes, an arse, and wee
This is beyond weird

Gosh, that sounds so hard. How do manage day to day? Do you have children? Are you ok with your own loose hairs?

Yeah he was a pushy bloke, taking advantage of your politeness, which is why it's left you feeling a bit wtf. He didn't really ask, did he, in a way you could have said no. He was going in there anyway.

How did you get to this from op saying "he asked to use my toilet"?

BCBird · 21/02/2025 07:41

Sometimes when we need to.go we have to go. The pube, whilst unpleasant, would not make me deep clean. It probably fell out. Would have wiped seat eith some loo roll and anti bsc

PrehistoricMonster · 21/02/2025 09:31

no-one is using my bog, don't care what anyone thinks of me😄

By reading all her posts

Which changed over time, particularly when someone mentioned the safety aspect, up until then she was treating both the delivery driver and builders the same. It was all about cleanliness.

It then switched to, but I know the builders.

Read the first post, it’s all there!

This.
Did you have an interview with the builders, including asking them their bathroom habits and perhaps ensuring their pubic area is shaved to ensure no random hairs left in your bathroom? Of course not so you have no way of knowing if the builders are "better" than the delivery man. Or is it some class distinction? The builders, being skilled tradesmen, have better manners and breeding than a mere delivery man, whose only skills are driving and shifting heavy loads.

Good grief I have no idea how some of you manage to exist in the world around other people. Do you all wear hazmat suits to protect yourself from coming into contact with other people's germs? Deep-cleaning the bathroom because you've sighted a single pubic hair is not normal. Have you never used loos in a public building yourself? Or at a party?

Letting workmen use the loo is a non-issue for me and all so far have left it in the state they found it. It would feel absurd and a bit inhumane to insist they left my house to use facilities that may or may not be nearby. (Public toilet facilities in the UK are notoriously shite; if they even exist you couldn't rely on them to be open or usable.) I've never been asked by a delivery driver but I wouldn't hesitate either. I wouldn't consider it any sort of imposition.

Thank goodness for some common sense on this thread. As I mentioned upthread, the pube would have grossed me out too, but not to the point where they'd drive me to deep clean.

Germs exist. Some people seem to live in mortal terror of encountering them. Excluding medical vulnerabilities, this is pointless. Germs are everywhere and you can't avoid them. Normal hygiene precautions are perfectly adequate for those who don't have medical issues that require them to take extra care, i.e. most people.

I suspect a lot of this is about whether or not things feel clean. That's not the same thing as whether they are clean.

Incakewetrust · 21/02/2025 16:26

@rosemarble tbh I don't see loose hairs around that often except in bathrooms. With me own, I usually shudder and flick it off extremely quickly.
I have two girls and washing their always sets me on edge but I try not to let it show as I don't want them having issues with hair.

My old cleaner used to clean my hairbrushes for me because she knew it made me puke 🙈

I genuinely can't believe people would say no. I do home visits and am always using people's toilets because I often have no choice. There has to be something seriously wrong with someone who would deny another human being such a basic right, THAT is disgusting.

Agree - PPs are awful people. I've had tradesmen in my house for the last two months, lovely blokes - I make sure the loo is clean before they arrive! 😆

BigBaoBun · 21/02/2025 17:25

I wouldn't let a delivery driver use my toilet but that's because I only have one upstairs and wouldnt want a stranger wondering around upstairs in my house

Exactly. Who wants strange men getting their cocks out (or worse) in your private, personal spaces. Not me.

So your OCD is under control and only in some situations does it make you feel physically ill.

But what would happen if you saw a hair on say a table in a restaurant or on a seat on a bus/train?

Exactly, they could be knocking one out over your finest bedspread.

You don't give strange men access to your private spaces. Yes they may have a lovely hi viz on and be bringing a parcel but that is no reason to let them in. Doorstep drop offs only in this house.

But the original post showed no concern about the delivery driver entering the house.

It was as all about the pube, the cleaning, the builders and the need to clean after them….

But when OP got a lot of YABU, she changed and the narrative was, he was “pushy” etc.

Just read the OPs posts.
