Delivery man using toilet

I admit I am a bit of a clean freak at best of times. Can’t bear people wearing shoes inside etc. But really don’t like workmen, etc using my bathroom.

A delivery driver arrived earlier with some kitchen appliances, just delivering, not installing. He asked to use the bathroom and I immediately wanted to say no, as I HATE strangers in my bathroom. But didn’t feel I could refuse.

So he was in bathroom for a minute or so and went on his way. I went in to clean the toilet as I always would, and not only had he used it, but he left a big black pubic hair on the toilet seat 🤮🤮 Absolutely revolting.

Have spent 5 minutes deep cleaning and disinfecting toilet and have put the hand towel in wash because I’m so disgusted.

AIBU to refuse access to my bathroom in future? Or am I over-reacting?

i will have builders in for 2 weeks shortly and obviously they will want to use the bathroom, which I’m not delighted about but can’t be helped. Means I’ll have to clean the toilet every day, but I can’t refuse them using it.

But random delivery men - would you refuse? And what would you say?

No I wouldn't refuse.

Feelinghurt2 · 20/02/2025 11:04

Urgh. Black pube. Yikes. That is gross.

Mrsttcno1 · 20/02/2025 11:06

I wouldn’t refuse, delivery drivers still need to use a toilet and there doesn’t tend to be one in a van. We’ve had this asked a few times, never had an issue with it

maudelovesharold · 20/02/2025 11:07

I don’t think you can. Well, you could, but it would be a bit mean spirited, and potentially very uncomfortable for the poor delivery driver! You could keep an empty bottle to give them, so they could pee in their cab, I suppose! For the amount of times it happens, I’d just put up with it and clean round afterwards.

GreyCarpet · 20/02/2025 11:07

You deep cleaned the toilet and washed the towel because you saw a pube?

Lavendar01 · 20/02/2025 11:08

Hmm if he's delivering the kitchen appliances, meaning a trustworthy employee of the company, then I would let him and see it no different than me going into a public toilet where you got all sorts around it.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 20/02/2025 11:08

I’d say no, but there’s a Morrisons like 2 mins away from here with toilets so he can go there

PrehistoricMonster · 20/02/2025 11:08

I just tend to think fast and say oh sorry, my DD is in the bath😄

Everley · 20/02/2025 11:08

I wouldn’t refuse but I’d absolutely hate it.

I had two men fixing the locks on my doors last year, one asked to use the toilet before they left. When I went up afterwards he had pissed all over the toilet, left the seat up and got a bit of piss on the floor for good measure. Made me feel sick. I can’t understand how someone can use a facility in a complete strangers house and leave it in such a state.

MichaelandKirk · 20/02/2025 11:09

When the builders are in make sure that they order a portable toilet - have done some work without one and the builders just using the downstairs loo. Never again!

MyDogsLoveCafes · 20/02/2025 11:09

If you don’t want them to, just close any doors to toilets/ bathrooms that they can see and say someone is in the shower or bath.

Bloom15 · 20/02/2025 11:09

YABU and I cant believe you cleaned it that much because of that - seems bonkers

Dotto · 20/02/2025 11:09

No, I'd have said the toilet was out of action unfortunately, and direct them to the nearest pub / shop / public loos which are a few mins walk away. I'm not clearing up strangers' mess.

An engineer visiting my house, the first thing he did was take a massive dump and didn't clean the loo afterwards. I'll never book him again..

LeafofLorien · 20/02/2025 11:10

I wouldn't mind personally but we are a bit untidy generally and wear shoes in the house, have 3 messy dogs etc so different levels of what I find acceptable mess. I think it'a a bit mean spirited to decline but if it makes you uncomfortable you are not obligated to allow delivery drivers use of your bathroom.

As a one off then I wouldn’t refuse. When we had builders in they did use the downstairs loo but better then peeing in my garden or in a van. Lots of builders have a portaloo at the address they’re working at. Could that work for your builders OP?
I just think how miserable it is to need the loo and none available.
If you’ve a large supermarket nearby you could direct delivery driver there to use their facilities but I’d probably just let them use my loo.’
The cleaning bothers me less than being alone with a strange man - I can be over sensitive but fortunately my dogs are my guardians.

TheatreTraveller · 20/02/2025 11:13

I genuinely can't believe people would say no. I do home visits and am always using people's toilets because I often have no choice. There has to be something seriously wrong with someone who would deny another human being such a basic right, THAT is disgusting.

Normallynumb · 20/02/2025 11:14

Sorry but I think you're OTT
I don't understand why everyone is so obsessed with strangers using their toilets!
I'm kind by nature and have received the same back
Only last week my neighbour asked to use mine as she'd locked herself out
I had tradies for 4 months last year and they used it the same as I did because I kept the teas and coffees flowing!

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 20/02/2025 11:14

As someone with bladder issues I get really desperate really quickly so I would never refuse anyone the simple act of using my facilities. Not a big deal.
I like a spotlessly toilet as well!

Ha ha haha!!! 😂

Alwaysbackandforth · 20/02/2025 11:14

I would have let him use it but I wouldn't have been happy.
I would have been in there cleaning everything after he'd left even if there was no visible signs of him having used the facilities.

Pokadotspink · 20/02/2025 11:15

for builders, sometimes they use their own portaloos ? @Fountofwisdom

Didimum · 20/02/2025 11:15

I think you need some help, frankly. How exhausting for you.

Edited

Depends on the scale of the project for your mansion/grounds, I suppose😂
