To ask my pharmacist to use my actual title on my medicine

Everythingisnumbersnow · 18/02/2025 16:00

decided to edit this a bit for clarity - I'm a Ms, my pharmacist keeps writing Miss on the labels (as part of a wider pattern of annoying behaviour). Will I look mad if I say please call me Ms on my labels?

(The prescriptions all say Ms)

I actually agree with this. 3 different titles, different people pissed off for different reasons if their preferred title isn’t used

Men don’t have to deal with this shit.

Yep!

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 21/02/2025 07:29

LovelyLeitrim · 20/02/2025 13:25

Exactly!

My response to that is, I don’t think is an issue. It wouldn’t bother me.

So? It bothers the OP, and many other women.

And maybe it would bother you if it were happening to you, which it isn't.

They give PhDs to people who use terms like "Karen" now?

SquashedSquashess · 21/02/2025 07:45

I use Ms, as a married woman, and wouldn’t be bothered if a pharmacist wrote Miss or Mrs.

I understand the arguments for using Ms, as I subscribe to them I.e.: not defining yourself by your married status, in the same way that men are not defined by their married status.

But when a pharmacist ticks Miss / Mrs in place of Ms, I assume they’re busy and my honorific isn’t their top priority. They haven’t philosophised over whether you should be acknowledging your married status as a married woman. They just haven’t thought about it, because amongst all their other duties, it isn’t an important consideration to them.

I’d let it go OP. Making a thing of it comes across quite self-important.

I’ll decide what bothers me, you know being a fully functioned adult woman who can decide for herself.

Again, because you don’t seem to have taken any notice.

OP asked AIBU, she asked the question, my answer is yes.

If she didn’t want to know, she needn’t have asked.

Stop trying to speak for other women, they are able to ask questions and speak for themselves!

So overbearing and bossy!!

Oh according to @MissScarletInTheBallroom it should bother you, you’ve no right to be in the 21st Century if it doesn’t!

You have to take offence about a minor issue, you must, because she says so!

It's overbearing and bossy and frankly dismissive to tell a woman she is being unreasonable to be annoyed because someone refuses to use her correct title.

Well then why did OP ask 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, the forum is am I being unreasonable?

Are we saying that I mustn’t give my view to OP when she’s literally asked!

Honestly, calm down. It’s not even your post, it’s another woman’s, so let her speak for herself?

She has spoken for herself. She's annoyed by it.

It's really not hard to get someone's title right when it is written on the sodding prescription that you are reading.

If the pharmacist is doing it repeatedly, either his attention to detail is so poor that he can't be trusted to dispense the correct medication, or he's doing it deliberately, in which case he's an arsehole. Both are unacceptable.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 21/02/2025 08:14

Why do some posters think adding a row of laughing smilies adds to the validity of their point?

To be fair, just about anything would add to the validity of that particular point.

I think it's a real shame that on a forum populated almost exclusively by women, the opinion that the OP's name and identity are unimportant is such a popular one.

Yes it’s tragic I’m sure!

You are telling me that my opinion is wrong, why are you saying that? It’s my opinion not yours.

Was it worth making a point to the pharmacist over this, no in my opinion it’s not.

I thought women being told to think in a certain way, mostly came from men, clearly not. You think all women should be a hive mind. We don’t.

Incidentally, 77% of voters think OP was BU.

Speaks for itself really.

I am a Ms. I also get pissed of being called Miss. It's really not that hard. Attention to detail surely should be important in a pharmacy?

ThePartingOfTheWays · 21/02/2025 08:51

It's interesting that we've had posts from people in patient care telling us that OP isn't BU.

The detail being missed is completely irrelevant to the proper dispensation of medicines. There is absolutely no risk of Ms Tiredofallthis of 123 Acacia Lane being given the wrong medicine because the label said Mrs Tiredofallthis of 123 Acacia Lane. Whether you are Ms or Mrs is something you choose, and can frankly change from day to day if you want. The other details are tied to a legal record, which is why they must be checked and accurate.

Your opinion that the OP's name and title are unimportant and that she isn't entitled to basic respect and attention to detail from someone whose job literally consists of serving the public and paying attention to detail is wrong, yes.

But if the pharmacist is getting this detail wrong because they are sloppy, they are probably getting other, "more important" details wrong.

And if they are managing to get other, "more important" details right, they can also manage to get this one right, but are failing to do so because they think female customers aren't deserving of basic respect.

If it's not an important detail at all, we shouldn't have it or note it down at all? But while we do ask people to supply these details, it's not that much to ask for people to record it correctly as supplied. It's really not that hard and part of the reason people are "bothered" by it, is because this seems to happen a lot and at more than one place we register as Ms and given some of the spiteful comments on this thread, it doesn't seem like it's a repetitive accident.

You can bet your life that if the pharmacist just called all women "Ms" regardless of what was written on their prescriptions because they considered that they couldn't give a shit about women's marital status and it's ridiculous to categorise women in this way in the 21st century, there would be a lot of unhappy customers.

"I'm not a Ms! Ms is only for divorced women or women who are embarrassed to be single! I'm a Mrs, thank you very much!"

My opinion is it’s not something to make a point of in a pharmacy.

Please stop projecting!

again 77% of votes on a mainly female forum agree!
