To ask my pharmacist to use my actual title on my medicine

Everythingisnumbersnow · 18/02/2025 16:00

decided to edit this a bit for clarity - I'm a Ms, my pharmacist keeps writing Miss on the labels (as part of a wider pattern of annoying behaviour). Will I look mad if I say please call me Ms on my labels?

(The prescriptions all say Ms)

I'm gonna guess that if your prescription comes through correctly, that the system that they use to produce the labels either doesn't have an option for Ms or it defaults to Miss and the pharmacist just doesn't bother changing it.

Nobody sees it apart from you. Does it really matter, honestly? I mean, you could point it out to them next time you pick up but secretly whoever you say that to is going to think you are being a bit of a petty arse.

Glorybox2025 · 18/02/2025 16:04

She cares because it matters. It might not matter to you but it matters to lots of us.

OP please do this. It feels very passive aggressive of them.

Don’t be daft!

CuteEasterBunny · 18/02/2025 16:29

For god sake. They are beyond busy and you want to nit pick.

prescribingmum · 18/02/2025 16:29

The first time you presented at a pharmacy, a profile will have been created by a dispenser or student who incorrectly input Miss rather than Ms. They will likely have been unaware of the significance of any difference. Each time you go back, the label is generated from that original profile. The checking pharmacist ensures the name matches that on the prescription together with all the other necessary medication details - with a prescription for a controlled drug, there is a long paperwork trail together with additional paperwork because it is a private prescription so this will be taking up all their time and energy.

Contrary to your insistence, this has not been done to spite you - they are just a lot more focused on all the other admin that comes with dispensing your medication. It really is not personal and the high cost is a reflection of the risk and responsibility that goes with dealing with controlled medication

As I said in an earlier post, if you really despise them that much, go find another pharmacy.

I pay the pharmacist hundreds of pounds I think they could owe me a bit of politeness in return

If you pay them hundreds of pounds, side note did you know you can get a NHS pre-payment certificate which can work out cheaper? It’s £115 for 12 months.

Edit, just saw your note re private so NA

They are already very much not on my side due to openly disapproving of the prescription so that ship has sailed

I don't want to be an arse to the till staff they're all lovely but he needs to sort himself out

I’m confused at what kind of relationship you’d have with a pharmacist where they even have the opportunity to show disapproval of your medication? Are you sure you’re not overthinking the whole thing?

Why not ask the local cannabis dealer for a bag - I’m sure they’ll call you anything you want!

Hm... Well you don't sound like someone who's opinion I'd particularly respect so we are at an impasse

Not very advisable to buy things like that

Can you move to a different pharmacist?

This does make sense - to be fair it is interpreted in the wider context of quite a spiteful-feeling service. As you seem like an insider can I ask if it's common to be overcharged for private prescriptions (and not given an invoice detailing what you paid for)?

OP posts:
ForRealCat · 18/02/2025 16:37

You sound like you might be liable to read a bit too much into things.... I doubt they really have an opinion on your medication, I would assume the computer is just reprinting labels rather than there being a repeated desire to offend you. By all means ask them to update their records, but I really don't think this is being done out of spite!!

shrinkingthiswinter · 18/02/2025 16:37

Women have been trying since the 80s to get a neutral title that doesn’t indicate marital status. It’s a very reasonable demand. This does matter. The mistake may not be personal tho

Twiglets1 · 18/02/2025 16:37

Talk about first world problems.

Jeezitneverends · 18/02/2025 16:38

I get pissed off that my prescriptions don’t come with my correct title which is Princess

Why ...can't you get a prepayment certificate for £10 or so a month?
Odd thing to worry about I wouldn't even look if it's my regular meds.

I'm prepared to bet that the medicine you receive costs a lot more than you pay for it

At least they have the correct sex

Im Mr on my wage slip - I was born female and I have never in my life identified as male

Because it's a private prescription.

I honestly think it is. I know people can be too touchy but this is my name!

It isn't your name, unless your birth certificate has "Ms" as your first name. It's an honorific.

ZaraSkyTraveler · 18/02/2025 16:40

I’m Dr (and also Mrs), I had to complete a form and could only choose Ms or Mx. so I did.

I think you’re massively over thinking this.

What is your definition of overcharged?

Private prescriptions will consist of the drug cost plus a dispensing fee which varies from one pharmacy to the next. The latter is the professional services fee and as I mentioned, will be higher because of the level of risk involved with the medication in question. If you ask for an invoice, it will usually just state what you received and how much you paid without any calculation in my experience

When getting a private prescription, always shop around and ask different pharmacies how much they will charge then go with the one you are happiest with. In your case, I imagine they are ordering it in just for you as it is not something I would expect to see in regular stock so this will also be factored into the cost.

Honestly speaking, the best way to approach is just to vote with your feet if you are not happy with the pharmacy in question. I have done this many times and finally found a local independent that I like and trust

Why would a private prescription be cheaper than the product it contains??
