To be absolutely terrified after watching latest episode of Uncanny

Been catching up on iPlayer with final episode of Uncanny- the latest one about the shadow man in Crofton.

AIBU to be completely freaked out by this one? At first I thought it was the most easily explained until we found out his friends and family had all seen the shadow man around him.

don’t want to put any spoiler alerts in, but the post mortem podcast has seem even more scary revelations which could explain it, but are not reassuring in the slightest.

Can Anyone shed any light on what this shadow man can be? ( no pun intended!)

It's an entertainment show.

It's all pretend.

CerealPosterHere · 17/02/2025 19:01

No idea off to watch it now. Only listened to the podcast, inc this episode. will report back.

CerealPosterHere · 17/02/2025 19:06

I don’t think it’s pretend at all. I’m not saying there isn’t a non paranormal explanation but i don’t think Danny Robbins is making a fictional show. I guess the friends could have banded together to make something up?

MedusaAndHerFavourites · 17/02/2025 19:11

It's interesting how different episodes affect different people.

I was particularly weirded out by the Miss Howard episode.

Velvian · 17/02/2025 19:15

YANBU, it proper shat me up. 😅 Not easily explained away.

I think the people on Uncanny, both radio and TV are generally straightforward, believable people.

That's not to say I 'believe ' in ghosts, but several of the cases are very puzzling.

ElsaLion · 17/02/2025 19:19

DH and I found it very disturbing, though it's a good that Julian is in a far better place. I wonder what he discussed with the present occupant of the house. I suppose we'll never know, but it seemed to give him closure.

pestowithwalnuts · 17/02/2025 19:19

I enjoy 'Uncanny ,'. It's interesting to see how things are defined and explained..
But...are you team believer...or team sceptic.

BG2015 · 17/02/2025 19:20

I started listening to the Uncanny podcasts last night, had to turn it off as I was so bloomin scared.

Definitely need to listen to them in the day time.

Wendolino · 17/02/2025 19:24

YANBU. I am very, very skeptical about this kind of thing but the shadow man was terrifying! Imagine meeting him on a dark corner of the stairs!

MindlessDaydream · 17/02/2025 19:24

Uncanny is the least scary paranormal podcast I've ever listened to. It just doesn't do it for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are far scarier shadow people stories

Any recommendations for when I want to become an insomniac again? 😁

SoulMole · 17/02/2025 19:31

Otherworld is worth a listen. And Danny's pre-uncanny podcasts.

BabyDream2025 · 17/02/2025 19:31

I used to see a shadow man in the first house I had after moving out of my parents but I think I’ll save this episode for daylight.

AlisonWhatIsTheMatter · 17/02/2025 19:34

I watched a few episodes of Uncanny, have yet to watch the shadow man episode (unsure if I will now 😅) but I do like that they have the person (can’t remember his name) giving a rational/scientific view to the ghostly sightings.

Wasn’t it the Miss Howard episode where he stated that the house renovations could have caused an hallucinogenic reason for the sightings?! Something to do with a certain something within the walls which could cause this when they were being knocked down? Sorry to be vague but I can’t quite remember what!

It still did leave me with chills though.

The Witch Farm

Battersea Poltergeist

I haven’t listened to the follow up podcast to this episode yet but I watched the tv show. I liked Julian and found him to be genuine but I think he was struggling with overwhelming grief/mental health when he was going through this much of it I would imagine was a manifestation of that. For all the talk of all of the other people that had witnessed it, they only actually interviewed a couple who were kids at the time and probably very much influenced by the troubles of their friend.

As you can tell I’m team sceptic. I love how respectful Ciaran and Evelyn are of each other and don’t just squabble for the sake of it. However, I think in their (understandable) determination to be kind and respectful to the interviewee they don’t often say the most obvious thing which is that it’s all in their head.

ExtraOnions · 17/02/2025 19:35

I loved it… I think he was seeing something that was a physical manifestation of his grief.

I don’t believe in ghost - I used to think I lived in a haunted house when little, I now think it was bad energy from my (frankly horrible) mother.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 17/02/2025 19:35

@AlisonWhatIsTheMatter Yes. The man with the mask on inspecting the damp!

Said the damp spores could cause hallucinations. But they while have lots of other nasty side affects too/first

Yes, I think that's the problem with the programme for me.

Sodthesystem · 17/02/2025 19:40

I've only ever had 2 woo experiences. Both were unfortunately, with these 'shadow men'.
One of the times I was just a kid. Absolutely fucking terrifying. So I believe him whole heartedly. That's how I've described them too ('darker than the dark'). It's like looking at a solid shape with no features. And hatefilled. It wasn't focused on I don't think, but you can feel how much they mean you harm.

I didn't know some of the stuff about the Irish folklore around things. Though I knew the first incident for me was related in some way to that sort of thing because of how things came about.

I felt so sorry for that poor man.
Made me cry for the poor fellow at the end. I hope he had a happy life going forwards.Things that pick on kids are just awful.

I wish I could tell you its all not real but, I'd be lying. And people who say otherwise should count themselves lucky they haven't ever come into contact with these things. Hope I never do again.

I thought about emailing in this week with my own experiences but, it's a difficult thing to talk about. And of course you don't want people associating it with you y'know :/ I mean, I don't care if they think I'm mental or not but you don't want people thinking you're some sort of laying attention seeker or some shit. Kudos for him for having the balls to come forwards tbh.

CerealPosterHere · 17/02/2025 19:59

Watching it now. Dh 8s chuntering it’s all in Julian’s head and then mass hysteria. Witch farm was scary.

Years ago there was a frightening thread on here where a MNer said she and her friends saw a giant shadow man with a top hat in her street late one night. It ran towards them and they raced to her house, up the path, through the door and slammed it shut, locked it. Then the shadow appeared at the glass panel above the door and it bent down to look through the glass at them in the hall!

Wasn’t it an uncanny podcast episode which covered the Ireland/dublin student accommodation block. That one was very scary as well.
