@longtompot think it is house 2 they are talking about with the stairs, photo 14

Ahh yes, I see it now! Thank you. That wouldn't be nice to see, especially if it's used a lot for access to an upstairs flat

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 17/02/2025 18:24

Number 1 is very "live laugh love"

Number 2 looks very warm and homely. I'd move in tomorrow!

I think no1 couldn’t be further from ‘live laugh love’ whereas no 2 probably has one but it’s just not in the photo 😁

Sallyingon · 17/02/2025 18:54

No 1. I love an open outlook. It will be warm and well insulated too

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/02/2025 19:08

1 is detached with lots of parking, garages etc, so I’ve have that one. Loads of space to stamp my personality on it. Mind you both of them are a bit of a commute from Central Scotland, lol.

TheLurpackYears · 17/02/2025 19:19

Meh, number 2 has been well over done in terms of refurbishment and it's a long walk to the patio table.
Number 1 could be really noisy at rhe weekend with the football posts at the bottom of the garden.

Wherehavetheyallgone · 17/02/2025 19:21

Property 1 - horrible, hard-eged and shiny! Those dreadful chandeliers! So much else wrong, I don't know where to start!

Property 2 - welcoming family feel, great proportions! Those wonderful stained glass door panels! So much else right, I don't know where to start!

Ellmau · 17/02/2025 19:44

The old one obviously. The newbuild has zero character and the open plan sitting room/dining room/kitchen looks like a conference meeting room.

godmum56 · 17/02/2025 15:07

Oh why? I lived in Wells and loved it. Mind you that was some time ago.

Whilst there are some lovely people, I have found Somerset and Devon quite parochial.

Quornflakegirl · 17/02/2025 20:16

Number 2 for sure. Number 1 reminds me of monstrous American houses with no soul.

Thats intersting, can I ask in what respect? I am a Londoner by birth so won't be offended......

localnotail · 17/02/2025 20:37

Second one! First one is awful. They are both a bit clinical tbh but the second one has some warmth and character to it. First one has a nasty footballer's mansion vibe.

maddening · 17/02/2025 20:40

Number 2 in the position of number 1 - number 1 has a nicer outlook - number 2 looks shoved in close to neighbours.

CoastalCalm · 17/02/2025 20:42

2 for me , per others first one is too shiny and soulless

MaryGreenhill · 17/02/2025 20:57

Bluebellwood129 · 17/02/2025 14:00

Neither. I hate terraced houses and detached houses that are a metre away from the neighbours

This

Anotherparkingthread · 17/02/2025 20:58

Both are awful for the price but then I'm not from the area, so perhaps it's expected?

One looks like my fancy private dental practice lol 😳 the furniture is painfully cheap but the double garage is a plus I guess?

I wouldn't want to bring guests back to either which says a lot as I'm not from wealth.

AlertCat · 17/02/2025 21:08

I chose #2 but I wouldn’t want either. Rich people seem to have terrible taste in home decor. The first one is all shiny and hard corners, makes me feel cold just looking at it. The second one is marginally better but why a rocking horse right there?? And much too close to the neighbours. I’d be so disappointed if that was what I could buy with over a million quid to spend 😂

LuckyCharmz · 17/02/2025 21:38

No 1, it has a west facing garden. It will be a lovely light house. Second one will be much darker.

BeardieWeirdie · 17/02/2025 13:35

Number 2. 1 is an ugly glossy box.

This

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 17/02/2025 21:47

Number 2, except for the garden which is hideously overlooked. I like my privacy!

Friends moved there in the eighties.

Negatives
Like many places, scratch below the surfaces and the locals don't really like tourists.
It's not particularly diverse
The views about women can also be a bit backward
The road network,
Access to major airports - I don't count Bristol or Exeter.

Positives
Cider
Lovely places to visit

Fine for a visit but would be my idea of hell to live in.

No I didn't like tourists when I lived there and I don't like them where I live now.

Can't comment on diversity. Bristol seems quite diverse now.
I lived there 70,s to 80's never had a problem with attitudes to women....or at least no more of a problem than anywhere else at that time!
The road network and airport access wouldn't bother me as I don't travel and am retired
I mind how much Wells changed and also the house prices.
Thanks for your response, I guess we all want different things.

No problem.

I completely understand the tourist bit. Agree house prices are crazy in and Somerset and Avon.

Hellohelga · 18/02/2025 00:01

No 1 is vile and tiny garden. I’d worry about ever being able to resell it should I need to.

Kinkyroots · 18/02/2025 00:07

2 is beautiful apart from the overlooked garden. Wouldn’t even consider number 1. Soulless overstated
