DH not happy

Babyitscoldoutside1 · 16/02/2025 18:57

I have just entertained DMIL DFIL and all the family for a roast dinner. We had a bottle of bubbles when they arrived. I cooked and served a full roast. Then we went for a walk, we have 4 under 5.
When we got back I did teas and coffees for everyone. Cleared, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher etc. As well as breastfeeding a baby.
Had a quick dance party to tire kids out.
during which DH commented I was drunk and should stop dancing.
We have now put the kids to bed.
Have poured a glass of wine out of what was left from DMIL and DFiL bottle they left with us. Fully thought I earned it but maybe not. Am I wrong.

You've done nothing wrong
In fact you're bloody brilliant

My midwife advised me it's fine to drink while breastfeeding.

Doesn't sound tipsy at all to me.

It's AIBU, plenty of people argue on here. Are 99% of AIBU constantly tipsy?

Now that you mention it that would explain a lot… 🤔😂

One small one in a day. Not 3 of whatever size we don’t know.

This- up to one drink per day nhs recommendations when bf

Since breast milk has the same alcohol content as blood when the mother drinks, the OP would be dead from alcohol poisoning before her blood alcohol level got high enough to harm her baby.

As long as the OP isn't too drunk to look after the baby safely breastfeeding and drinking is absolutley fine. Drinking when pregnant is another story.

Sorry your DH is being an absolute twat OP, he can cook and host the lot himself next time and you can sit and count his fucking drinks xx.

@BatchCookBabe Have you read this and other posts with actual information or are you just ignoring them because you enjoy shaming OP?

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/02/2025 20:01

BatchCookBabe · 16/02/2025 19:54

100% this. ^ Can't believe the amount of posters on here enabling the OP. Shocking really. Particularly as some of them very likely have young children themselves! 😱

Did you need to interview for your job as the BF police or is is a self appointed role?

Get an education please for the love of god.

www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/factsheet/alcohol/

Ironic since the link confirms my opinion.

OP has had 3 glasses of wine= 9 units. Binge drinking is classed as more than 6 units in one session for a female.

Hey if that's what the morals you and the OP have, crack on. But I disagree and am freely able to do so.

Ah I hate that, nothing worse than being in a merry mood to have someone expose you and make you feel other than happy, tipsy or otherwise. You are a superwoman doing all that with 4 under 5, I have one 18 month old and couldn't pull that together!

The only morals I have are to not spread misinformation. You said you can’t drink when you’re breastfeeding and that is, whether you agree with it or not, untrue.

BatchCookBabe · 16/02/2025 20:03

From that breastfeeding article. (On the previous page.)

You can have occasional, small amounts of alcohol but should not drink regularly or heavily (e.g. binge drinking) without considering how to limit your baby’s exposure.

If you drink any alcohol DO NOT bed share with your baby or fall asleep in the sofa/chair.

If you do drink heavily, your baby should be cared for by an adult who has not had any alcohol.

  • Never share a bed or sofa with your baby if you have drunk any alcohol. Doing this has an increased association with sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  • Alcohol passes freely into breastmilk. Levels of alcohol in your breastmilk reach approximately the same levels as your blood. Your blood alcohol levels have to reach around 300mg/100ml (or 0.3%) before causing mild sedation in your baby. This compares with a level of 80mg/100ml (0.08%) needed to fail the police blood test in England, Wales and N. Ireland; or 50mg/100ml (0.05%) Scotland.
  • Peak alcohol levels in your milk appear after 30-90 minutes but this does not mean that social drinking of small amounts of alcohol mean that you cannot breastfeed as normal.
  • If you want to reduce your baby’s exposure to alcohol, you could avoid breastfeeding for 2-3 hours after drinking.
  • Excess levels of alcohol in your milk may lead to drowsiness, deep sleep, weakness and decreased growth in your infant. Reduction of let-down has been reported with heavy drinking. Alcohol may reduce your baby’s sucking time at the breast but not the volume of milk consumed.

Seriously, FFS, if you're necking back virtually a full bottle of wine. DO NOT BREASTFEED your baby. OP is binge drinking with the amount she has been drinking. Why are people trying to normalise this???

I can't believe the amount of posters enabling the OP. And as I said, it's terrifying to think some of them many have young children/babies themselves!

EDUCATE YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe some things I read on here sometimes. No WAY can most people be serious half the time! It's a parallel universe on here! Shock

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/02/2025 20:04

Cant help thinking that the ones banging on about depriving themselves a second glass of wine "for my child" are the same who are appalled at the idea of taking the kids for a happy after a long day, or driving to school when its pissing it down when its "only a mile away, get good waterproofs!".

So many smug Perfect Penelope's on here sometimes.

decorativecushions · 16/02/2025 20:05

It's no wonder breastfeeding rates are so low when we have this amount of misinformed people!

No one is 'enabling' the OP! It's not as though she's an alcoholic ffs!

I am currently breastfeeding my 9 month old baby. I don't drink regularly but I've occasionally had this amount over a whole day. I wasn't drunk at all as I was also eating and having soft drinks, similar to OP!

Please please please. Stop spreading false information about breastfeeding. Why do you think so many women don't breastfeed beyond 12 weeks, if at all, when there's this much bullshit being spread. Wow.

OP has obviously been rushed off her feet today and has enjoyed a couple of drinks. Big fucking deal.

Some of you are using language implying that she's a raging alcoholic being 'enabled' by people commenting supportively on this thread. It's absolutely batshit.

You literally need to be absolutely blind drunk, unable to stand or walk, for your breast milk to be harmful to baby.

You literally said it yourself

A glass of wine is 2.1 units. Three glasses would be 6.3, not 9. A glass of Prosecco is even less so it likely came under 6.
It’s very simple maths … have you been drinking?

AlertCat · 16/02/2025 20:06

DorothyStorm · 16/02/2025 19:43

Hmm i was yanbu but you do sound tipsy, argumentative and three glasses is over half a bottle. When breastfeeding that really is a lot.

But spread over the course of 6-7 hours and a big meal, and a walk. The body’s metabolising all the time, so the alcohol consumed in this way isn’t going to build up to any significant level.

DorothyStorm · 16/02/2025 20:06

who said depriving? That is strong language to describe not having three glasses of alcohol.

Hilarious that that particular poster posted a link to a breastfeeding article to try and make out boozing as much as you want whilst breastfeeding is OK, and the article says it's not! 😂And as for the poster that said her midwife said it was OK. That midwife needs sacking!
