Dd is Amalie, cousin is she’s naming her daughter Amelia.
DC are close and see each other regularly.

AIBU to think that’s basically the same name? Im not going to say anything and so will have to get over it but just think it’s really weird.

My mum's cousin is named after my grandmother, I was named after my great great mother. We have two cousins with exact same name - one male, one female and another set of two males with identical names. My grandmother had two brothers with the exact same name (one died in infancy). Not to mention multiple family friends whose children born around the same time sharing a popular name at the time. It's really all quite common and nobody cared back in a day. When did this obsession with "name stealing" become a thing?

I'm from a large Irish Catholic background. The amount of Theresa/Mary/Denis/Patrick/Michael etc etc amongst my cousins, aunts and uncles is unbelievable. And that's just first cousins!

They might look similar written down but they sound different, Amelia has more syllables.

They are cousins, I think it’s a non- issue.

I actually have cousins with the same name, who are a year apart. No one thought it was strange.

They are not even cousins - they are children of cousins so second cousins at best.

OP. You’re an adult. Grow up FFS. You sound like you’re in the school playground

They are different names. The are spelt and sound different. My cousin and I actually have the same name. I'm big Fred and she's little Fred. It's not a big deal and it is what it is.

I don't see the issue. Everyone should be free to choose whatever name they like for their own child.
