... to ask you to practise parking it in a single space? Saturday afternoon in the town multistorey and the number of huge cars parked half in a second space is 🤯

I’ve driven huge 4x4’s or mpv’s since 2005 when I had my 2nd child. All kids are now adults so at Christmas I bought a 3 door mini 😂. I absolutely love parking it. It fits completely inside the white box and I can actually get in and out.

EVs are heavy and do more environmental damage during their manufacture than normal cars.

And bigger cars these days are immensely fuel efficient otherwise they wouldnt be certified for sale. 🤦‍♂️

Yes, EVs are generally heavier; many of our multi-storey car parks will be in big trouble once they are more common.

And fuel efficient doesn’t mean bigger cars don’t use more than smaller cars.

Not entirely sure why you are picking yet another fight with me, but as you were. Free parking in your head, I guess.

😂

SUV drivers, Jesus may love you but everyone else thinks you're a cunt.

An awful lot of people don’t care what everybody else thinks.

SUVs officially become Britain's favourite type of car for the first time on record

I have looked up the dimensions of my car, a 67 plate Kia Ceed Estate & the current NIRO EV

Interesting to see they are much the same except that the Niro is a little - 100mm higher so its easier to get into.

I was in Swanage a few weeks ago and there was a Maestro and similar vintage Polo parked by the station.

They were TINY!

Factually incorrect but only bordering on lies?

Without the Oxford comma, I’m not sure if they are also bordering on bullshit or bullshit.

But I’m also a little confused about how you differentiate lies, factually incorrect things and bullshit, so I’m not sure the comma is here or there.

Which bit of my post is any of those things?!

You make me laugh 😆

Not familiar with those models, but one of the main dangers from SUVs is that the height means they hit pedestrians higher on the body. Instead of being scooped up and over the bonnet, where the force on impact is mitigated slightly by the design, you are more likely to be pushed under the car and run over.

Much more likely to hit kids in the head where they are unlikely to recover.

They are the selfish choice for most people (farmers, towers and the disabled notwithstanding).

Luddite26 · 16/02/2025 20:20

Of course @Organically the aim is always not to hit pedestrians.

That is true.

Unfortunately it happens all too often.

Porridgeislife · 16/02/2025 20:28

Pedestrian safety depends on the car. The vulnerable road user Euro NCAP rating for my SUV is far higher than a new Mini Cooper, due to defensive design and onboard safety systems.

LillyPJ · 16/02/2025 20:29

Dogsbreath7 · 16/02/2025 18:44

Why is it selfish, please explain otherwise you are coming across as just batty.

Alternatively if you can tell me which mini car can tow 3.5 tonnes I am very interested.

I am calling you out, because if YOU live in a city you have no NEED of a car FULLSTOP. Use public transport. We who live in the countryside need 4x4 for towing and driving in winter conditions (usually no snow plough at all). We get no public transport yet our taxes are used to pay for city transportation infrastructure.

Selfish because big cars are bad for the environment, take up more space on the roads and in car parks, and use more resources. And in many cases, they are unnecessary. Of course, some people need them, as you do, whether they live in the country or not. But lots of people don't, and 'living in the country' isn't an excuse either. P.S. I am not 'batty'.

But a lower car with the same onboard safety systems will generally be safer than an SUV because physics.

LillyPJ · 16/02/2025 20:30

Also, I do not live in a city.

LillyPJ · 16/02/2025 20:32

Yes. There's a difference between safety for the people in the car and people outside the car!

CurbsideProphet · 15/02/2025 15:09

I remember seeing a video where they tested how many little children lined up behind the car it would take for an SUV driver to be able to see them out of the rearview mirror. I can't remember the exact answer, maybe +. Even the driver was totally shocked and said they didn't realise their view was so hampered that they wouldn't be able to see small children stood behind their car, even if they checked the mirror before reversing.

This is BS because most have rear parking cameras now..!

I live in the country, in the mountains to be exact - if I didn’t have a 4x4 suv I couldn’t leave the house due to ice & snow

Nope it was six or seven little tikes and their schoolbags

And the rear cameras were rolled down from top of the line models to an add-on upselling to almost always standard.

Shush 🤫.... Some of us are old 🤣

Yawn.

You obviously have one.

OldMam · 17/02/2025 10:14

I think they are being unreasonable for buying a massive car. Are they exempt from the climate emergency? Entitled show-offs.

mugglewump · 15/02/2025 15:04

With number plate recognition, the technology is there to charge these vehicles more to park. If they take up two spaces, they should pay for two spaces.

This!

SunnyViper · 17/02/2025 11:23

GreenTeaLikesMe · 16/02/2025 12:08

Idiot.

We need to start heavily taxing these fucking things and restricting their ability to enter builtup areas. They belong in rural areas.

So I need to get a separate car to travel into town? Fucking stupid idea.
