... to ask you to practise parking it in a single space? Saturday afternoon in the town multistorey and the number of huge cars parked half in a second space is 🤯

OP posts:
cramptramp · 15/02/2025 20:37

I don't go to multi storeys because of this reason.

cramptramp · 15/02/2025 20:38

Wordau · 15/02/2025 14:46

They're too big for single spaces a lot of the time.

They're too big full stop.

Fucking ridiculous for city dwellers to have these wanky child killing machines.

If you have one, I judge you.

I don't care.

grumpypedestrian · 15/02/2025 20:39

I’ve yet to see boot space in an SUV that could easily fit canvas 6m bell tents and metal poles like our estate can.

I’ll admit the current sloping backs on estates are an annoyance which is why I prefer the older versions that are bulky. But we buy cars for practicality not aesthetics.

lavendarwillow · 15/02/2025 20:24

Is there a correlation with the vast increase in in pot holes and damaged roads and oversized heavy cars?

No. It correlates with
Sat navs and
people getting more ‘stuff’ delivered to them at home.

Plantatreetoday · 15/02/2025 20:36

Except we don’t all exist in a country bubble. Sometimes we have to drive into town.
Some might even need to go to a city. Like London.

Ive never owned a car whilst living in a city, as public transport is very good, but I do need to drive in and out now and most of us don’t buy an extra car to do that. Nor should we have to.

Edited

Fair enough, but there is no need to drive into central London. You can park your tesco tractor somewhere in Zone 4 and use public transport like the rest of us do.

I have a enormous SUV and a tiny 4 seat city car. I use both equally, depending on need. Do I become a different type of person depending on which car I'm sat in? How do you know so much about me?

Me too. My previous car was a tiny Fiat 500. Did I get a surprise personality change when I picked up the keys to my RR? How peculiar!

My mums CRV can fit more than our civic tourer

RRs are like the grown up equivalent of Fiat 500s to me. It’s not a compliment!

Wow, just wow. What a post! RR courses…

Yes, Range Rover run courses if you want to learn how to properly take them off road etc. I fail to see why that is so shocking?

A big SUV is about 3tons, A HGV can be up to 44tons. Which of these do you think does the most damage?

What does this even mean??

Also to the poster you've quoted, 500's are not fucking tiny 🤣 Are you sure you owned one?

Oh mate, it was the whole glorious GLORIOUS smug, ultimate smugness of the entire post. All of it. Chef’s kiss. Mwah!!!!

Not at all smug. Just a very sensible attitude and approach to driving a large car like a RR, surely? Why wouldn't you learn how to properly drive it?

And I don't see the point in owning one if it'd going to cause you stress because you're worried about it getting scratched, or some twat keying it? If you cannot really afford to maintain it or repair it, don't buy one.

I don't see it as a status symbol, for me that would be something like a vintage Aston Martin

Molly499 · 15/02/2025 17:54

My god, the comments and judgements on here are insane. Why can’t people drive an SUV if they want to, much safer for a driver. I agree that Range Rovers are huge but a lot are not. My VW T -Roc is an amazing car, does not feel huge but is a lot easier to park than my old Mini and a lot safer for me. Also has beepers everywhere just in case some unsupervised child wanders behind me when I have reversing lights on, just like most modern cars.

Why the hate, it makes no sense…live and let live! Most bad parking is drivers and not cars.

Safer for you as a driver, much more dangerous for cyclists, pedestrians and other road users who will most definitely come off worst if you hit them.

Mine was tiny. It was about 10 years old though. Maybe they're bigger nowadays?

I don’t own a Tesco tractor 🤣🤣🤣 I didn’t even know tescos had them
but
I do park in ebbsfleet and use PT from there ( along with many I know )

However,if I’m going to town ( even London ) and I need stuff. ie For work. Then I can’t carry it all on the tube, bus, train, taxi as
its too heavy
There’s too much of it
Its too bulky
Im not hulk

Im sure there are many others that drive to town using a vehicle and not public transport because they have stuff…..have you seen the lines and lines of white vans exiting London from 2pm onwards.

And if you drive a 4x4 SUV and meet a VW Golf on a narrow road it should be YOU that goes onto the gravel verge.

I always do. It's just common sense when my tyres and wheels are so much bigger and have better traction etc.

Iheartmysmart · 15/02/2025 21:14

I’ve got a tiny, tiny car and really don’t give a shiny shit what other people drive as long as you’re not a motorway middle lane hogger or one of those utter arseholes who pull out in front of me then piss around at 10 miles under the speed limit. But even though it’s a small car, the doors are quite big and some parking spaces are so tight it’s a struggle to open them properly. Goodness knows how people get in and out of their normal size cars. I’m pretty sure my Smart car is about the same size as my old classic mini.

I thought that depended on the nearest passing place and who’s side it was on. I wouldn’t expect any car to sit in front of a passing place and expect me to go off-road to accommodate them just because their car wasn’t fit to use the road.

We should always use established road rules and safety measures.

That goes for all the huge trucks lost on satnav as well.

I find I have no choice, as when I meet townies in VW Golfs on a narrow road, they have no idea how wide their car is, and sit several feet out from the verge, paralysed like a rabbit caught in headlights. And when it comes to needing to reverse, is it the VW Golf, or the tractor towing a huge trailer? Answers on a post card to I'class="underline">reverse.com [email protected]

Nope, they're small but definitely not tiny and the doors are fucking massive! As is their turning circle unfortunately.

Well all I can say I would not drive in central London if I could help it... Traffic... narrow streets... no parking...congestion charge and other stuff like that...people damaging your car if parked in the street...

Basically, a massive ball ache with little positives. White vans have to do it, they are tradesmen. They have vans full of paint, garden stuff, etc.

Actually the doors were big on my 3 door. But I found the turning circle to be really good, if you had it in City mode.
