03:45 - 04:05 is not over an hour. It's 20 minutes. What's the point of exaggerating?

Yes, @CarobyBlobs, I did realise which is why I said 'link previews'.
Users must have clicked on links from private messages, as images and previews were unavailable in PMs.

Edited

The time on the screenshot reads 2.55am.

I can do Maths, thanks.

Garlicworth · 23/02/2025 22:17

It wasn't reported at 02:55 as far as I can tell - just did a very quick scroll through the Night Watch thread. Presumably nobody saw it for 50 minutes, then two members reported it on separate threads.

kittensinthekitchen · 23/02/2025 22:29

Oh noone reported it to Night Watch for 50 minutes? Oh that's okay then!

How do you know how many reports it had via the known report function? I haven't seen anyone from Mumsnet confirm that.
People are not told about Night Watch - despite many, many requests spanning over years, it's still hidden away in a distant corner of Mumsnet and posters are NOT made aware that the reporting process at night is different.

And I would be willing to bet on the thread have been seen in that time by others, who clicked out of it immediately and didn't go back to report it. Why? Because you have to view the damn thing in order to report it!!

The only facts you and I have is that it was posted at 2.55am, still hosted on Mumsnet at 3.45am, and confirmed as hidden at 4.05am.

Many people were saying they weren’t actually aware of the night watch process. People would have been using the report button not aware that the reports weren’t going anywhere. The first time it being reported on night watch doesn’t really mean very much at all

cranberrytart · 23/02/2025 22:40

After all of this horror - you would think there would be a stickied direction to NW.

Or that the paid staff member who was allegedly going to be "on call" (did that ever happen) would have noticed sooner.

But alerting users to the possibility of CSA on here, and telling them clearly what to do about it if they have the misfortune to encounter it, is low priority apparently.

AlexandrinaH · 23/02/2025 22:41

For those asking, MNHQ posted a message on a thread in Site Stuff confirming intimate images are no longer allowed to be posted, so the Reddit posters were correct.

hehehesorry · 15/02/2025 04:58

Didn't see it, but I'm on another women's site with strong anti trans views that was spammed with CSA for a long time.

So you're saying. Because we don't want male bodies in female spaces (which isn't anti trans) the answer to that by these people is to flood those places with children being sexually abused?

Bit of an own goal that, isn't it? Hmm

Sinkintotheswamp · 24/02/2025 11:59

I assume that MN are working with CEOP behind the scenes. We'll be told more when necessary.

I do think photos should be permanently removed from now on though.

Its a classic trans activist thing. That's their M.O. They flood womens sites with child abuse material. And then wonder why trans has such a bad reputation and they are losing the war. They're basically proving our point.

Bikergran · 24/02/2025 12:35

I hope the OP was warned that even possessing such images, even when forwarded from someone else, and she is completely innocent, can get her prosecuted.

Right. It doesn't make much sense
Unless they want to play the victim that they're getting blamed or something.

On a more positive note. It's very good at flushing out those who are here 'on the inside', ready to fuel the fire. Wanting the site closed immediately. These sort of attacks are always tag teamed.

MaloryJones · 24/02/2025 12:52

OdeToBarney · 23/02/2025 08:41

I've turned off PMs and I would urge you all to do the same. Not that we should have to, but @mnhq seem to be completely useless at getting to grips with this, or even warning their users.

I never get PMs on here but, just to be on the safe side, I have disabled them.

I (unfortunately) saw it. Didn’t want to view it long enough to report it. Didn’t know about the night watch topic so created a site stuff thread (I’ve name changed.) Then they posted more images on my site stuff thread so I left for a few hours until I thought it would have been fixed. I didn’t get an email or anything from MN at any point as a response hence the just waiting.

Sorry, you notified Mumsnet that you had seen images of Child sexual abuse on their website and they haven't even emailed you as a courtesy? 😲

I wonder if @mnhq know how many posters viewed the post? It be interesting to know.

That’s appalling, I’m so sorry you were subjected to that by the evil wankers who are targeting MN, and I’m also unimpressed that MN haven’t contacted you with reassurance/apology.

@Garlicworth the poster seemingly notified MN through their Night Watch board, but has said they've not had as much as an acknowledgement of that from someone from Mumsnet.

It needs to be decided once and for all what the reporting system is, what everyone's responsibilities are at what times, and all users need to be informed of this.

This is terrifying and surely couldn't stand given the weight of evidence in these kind of circumstances?!

I totally agree. The absolute failure of @mnhq to protect users and put clear instructions and keep us updated is appalling.

I didn’t report, because I didn’t want to look at the image long enough to do so. I know that sounds a bit stupid but my gut instinct was to close the window immediately.

But I navigated straight to site stuff where I started a thread named URGENT. Then the poster that was posting the images came and posted on that thread too, so I logged out for a few hours until I thought the thread would’ve been seen. To be fair to Mumsnet, they did post on that thread at some point. So, probably I wouldn’t necessarily expect to have an email interaction with them, although it would have been reassurance the issue was being dealt with.

Yes, although I posted on Site Stuff because I didn’t know / had forgotten Night Watch was a thing. I only did that because I assumed I was maybe the first to see it and somebody had to report it somehow.

Yes, I created a thread on Site Stuff that MN did reply on at some point. But I didn’t check it for quite a few hours after because they started posting the pictures there too.

Bikergran · 25/02/2025 08:50

It happened to a female police officer a few years back. She was sent images which had been shared in a group. They were sent to her in good faith, the sender (who knew her) wanted it investigated, but just keeping them on her phone while she was trying to decide how best to proceed, got her in trouble. I can't remember all the details now, but I know I heard about in Radio 4, maybe Womans Hour, as she was fighting disciplinary procedures.
