I have a cousin who scrapes by with a lazy arse husband who has never worked a day in his life.

MumoftwoGranofone · 12/02/2025 15:48

Financially ...I haven't a clue but my guess is all those in the younger generation ... in terms of life as a whole possibly the person who is most money driven ...

Me. I can't work and am on UC.

TheHangrySwan · 12/02/2025 15:51

Technically, it’s the cat. But he lies in his bed most of the day, he comes and goes as he pleases, plus he gets fed and cuddled on demand. So I think he’s doing ok, despite the poverty.

Iloveyoubut · 12/02/2025 15:52

Financially me. Why? I prioritised other people’s needs and happiness over my own. Not an admirable quality, I was stupid for any of a better word. Misguided. I have decent emotional intelligence, empathy and understanding for what people are going through now though.. I think I’m fairly well off on that front . Doesn’t pay the bills though and doesn’t hold much external value.

ForZanyAquaViewer · 12/02/2025 15:53

Me, but that’s because my (much older) brother and parents VERY well off. DH and I both earn six figures, but I come from a seven figure family (as does he, come to think of it). So, our poverty is very much relative (to our relatives). 😊

The Cat. She's in debt by several £k worth of Dreamies.

You ain't ever getting that money back 😬

ForZanyAquaViewer · 12/02/2025 15:54

Why on earth would this thread make people so cross?! Oh, MN. 🤣

I think it annoys people because its normally someone trying to drag an online article, not genuine curiosity. Normally started by someone with no input on the subject themselves

SauronsArsehole · 12/02/2025 15:56

I would say me. Under employed and an unpaid carer.

however I am debt free, my outgoings are minimal so I feel pretty ‘wealthy’ despite my low earnings.

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 12/02/2025 15:57

DD2, her only source of income is loosing teeth.

Oh, I see! That didn’t even occur to me. Annoyed with myself for answering, now.

Adamante · 12/02/2025 15:58

Me because I am a single parent and my ex H is an alcoholic who pays nothing for his children and barely sees them so it’s all on me. All other family members on both sides are married, in professional careers and doing very well. Im not really bothered but it can be quite isolating as one of my children is very angry about their Dad and doesn’t want to see how well everyone else in the family is doing so avoids them and frankly I don’t blame them.

To be fair, that seems to pay a lot better than it did in my own childhood! Toothfairy must be loaded these days.

aCatCalledFawkes · 12/02/2025 16:01

Me I think it but it’s all relative and no one would class me as poor.

Parents - inherited vast amounts of money and my Dad has a final salary pension. They have high income even though they are retired.

My Sister - big divorce payout, small mortgage lots of savings.

Brother & SIL. They have a big mortgage but SIL has been left a house in Cornwall and a largish percentage of a house in London. They are pretty well set up for life, they have one baby and don’t plan for more.

Me- I actually earn more than my siblings and my sister in law, but it’s a single income and I have a medium sized mortgage and am a single parent to two kids.

It was 20p when I was a kid. How much is it now?

SnowdropPancake · 12/02/2025 16:02

Steve, probably because he doesn't have much money.

Garlicworth · 12/02/2025 16:04

PassingStranger · 12/02/2025 14:26

Money.

Me! I was the richest for a while, then the second-richest. A combination of bad luck, bad advice and chronic illness sent me right to the bottom, just as my siblings were becoming well-off. I'll be poor until I die now.

Could be worse; I'm not dead yet!

Badknitter · 12/02/2025 16:05

The cat. Spends her time stoned on catnip biscuits staring at the radiator.

JudgeBread · 12/02/2025 16:06

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 12/02/2025 15:21

You have cats too?

Yes and he needs to seek gainful employment and start paying his way the little shit

Some posters are enjoying chatting around the subject, which is fine, but why would an OP who admits that there isn't really a poorest person in their own family (??) suddenly want to know about everyone else's? Especially as they don't seem at all interested in engaging with their own thread!
It's OP's motivation that I'm interested in, but probably won't get a response to.

WonderingAboutThus · 12/02/2025 15:04

Me because I married someone who has a prestige career rather than a money career.

I make great money, mind, but as the practically sole earner with three kids, it doesn't stack up compared to my siblings - One is a child-free medical expert, one a very high earner married to a high earner (two kids), one married into serious money (one kid).

I'm really intrigued about what a prestige job with poor earning potential is...I would always assume that a prestige job meant high earning potential.
Genuinely curious, if there is a job that people think is highly paid and really isn't.

£1 or £2 depending on what the tooth fairy has available that day.
