Whose the poorest and Why?

@Elsvieta 'Arts' jobs are so poorly paid. A finance husband is very useful if that's your passion!

Yeah, reckon I've left it a bit late (late forties). That's part of the problem though - I just couldn't ever imagine taking a penny off a man, even if he was really rich. How do people (women) do it?

And that's how women end up poor!

StormingNorman · 13/02/2025 19:04

Most of my family have great jobs, own successful businesses or retired well. One of my cousins and his wife earn average salaries so probably them.

We don’t really talk about money. Everyone has more than enough so it doesn’t need to be discussed.

restingbitchface30 · 13/02/2025 19:11

Probably me to be honest. And I don’t care one bit! All my fiancées siblings are doing well for themselves, ones a dentist, ones a consultant etc. But they’re all quite miserable. However me and my partner scrape by and we are so wealthy and happy in other, more important, ways.

Vitriolinsanity · 13/02/2025 19:17

DancingButterflies · 12/02/2025 21:02

Probably me. I have one child and both my husband and I have professional jobs on a good wage, but I don’t save a penny except to blow tens out thousands on long haul fancy holidays every year.
But I’m having the time of my life whilst I’m healthy enough to enjoy myself.

I like your style.

unsync · 13/02/2025 19:31

Me. Financial abuse during marriage. Now divorced and live-in carer for aged parent with life limiting condition. I get £81.90 a week (and NI contribution so at least I will get basic SP if it still exists by then).

How condescending

SomewhereInTheMIdlands · 13/02/2025 19:45

I don't mind answering. My brother was born deaf. He was treated like 💩 by people who should know better. Of course this was some decades ago when people could get away with it. Teachers beat him with canes and the strap for refusing to listen or "disobeying" an order when he didn't hear it. Education suffered badly and employment was never good, getting fired for not listening and Job centres demanding the impossible from him, like phoning employers when he couldn't use the phone at all, then loosing benefits for similar unfair reasons. Financial poverty was always an issue, comming from an already poor family then low or no wages. He took up drinking and smoking in a big way to handle the stress then died quite early from cancer.

maddening · 13/02/2025 19:46

Uncle, manic depressive schizophrenic agoraphobic with many many issues since he had his first episode at uni in the 60s - has never been able to work and lives in supported housing.

PearlLemur · 13/02/2025 20:13

I don't know,and if I did I wouldn't put it on here,plus it's not really any of your business

Jane958 · 13/02/2025 20:25

No idea.
Do you mean immediate family, such as siblings?
I think the 3 of us have all paid off the mortgage, except possibly for my sister, but her husband is 10 years younger than her.
Possibly one of my cousins, who has been made redundant several times.

BrendaSmall · 13/02/2025 20:29

My daughter!
He husband left her with the children, he gave up work so he doesn’t have to pay her anything, doesn’t help her out and she’s trying to work too, She gets no help at all (well occasionally I help her out when I’m able to)

ladygindiva · 13/02/2025 20:30

Me because I didn't excel at school but I'm doing ok and have worked hard at the career I chose.

TheHateIsNotGood · 13/02/2025 20:36

Me. But only money-wise.

SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 13/02/2025 20:39

Within my immediate family the eldest of my 3 sisters was the poorest. She had kids very young and didn’t give herself the chance to get a proper education or build a decent career. Married an awful man and spent the best part of 10 years miserable before they separated. After that, she settled in quite a rough part of town as it was all she could afford and had 3 kids to support on her own. She worked two minimum wage jobs to just about make ends meet.

Despite all of this she was one of the strongest, most generous and kind people I’ve ever met. She passed away suddenly from an aggressive cancer last year and I still miss her every single day - even during her fight she was as courageous and independent as possible right to the end. A very inspirational woman indeed.

My cat doesn't have a penny to his name.😂

Neither does mine but al least she catches mice.

Not funny when she brings them in at 3.00.am...😦

JustMeAndTheFish · 13/02/2025 21:02

Undoubtedly me. My three children all earn more per year than I’ve ever earned in my life.

My old boy was a brilliant rodent catcher but at nearly 20 he has decided to retire from the rat race 😂

RickiRaccoon · 13/02/2025 21:30

Of the siblings, I'm guessing me because I haven't prioritised money. Sister is doctor and married a successful entrepreneur. Brothers didn't have kids so probably have more. My DH and I earn a bit above average with 2 kids.

Of the wider family a whole bunch on benefits because they can't commit to jobs.

Edited

😭 that's sad to hear.

A relative of mine who is 26 is the poorest in our family.

Not because she has no money.... just because she BELEIVES she is the poorest and never misses an opportunity to let people know how poor she is.

She had three foreign holidays last year, and everyone sniggers behind her back about the dreadful poverty she is experiencing.

Silly cow hasn't realised the difference between not being able to afford EVERYTHING you want and not being able to afford ANYTHING you need.

We all wonder when she will grow up.

Overnightoats1 · 13/02/2025 23:42

Youngest brother-ended up in a bad crowd in senior school and took drugs /drank .. made it though uni- just - and has a decent-ish job now (by some miracle) in his 30s.. but years of addiction and living to party really set him back.. he is headed in the right direction now but it's been hard to help and hard to watch.

Curtainseeker · 14/02/2025 00:17

Our dog is poorest in terms of wealth; no income stream, has destroyed all his assets has debts for rent, food and his 1:5 of the annual national trust membership, others assets he has destroyed ( mainly slippers but the occasional toddler toy or work shoe too)

BUT he is probably the richest in life satisfaction; tail always wagging, appreciative of the little things in life; a sniff of the local fauna, a run on the beach, a blanket on the sofa and can find pleasure in absolutely anything; squirrels passing by the fence line, the foxes that visit, border control if we’re out digging he’ll join in AND also provides the best welcome home from a day at work than anyone else with a guaranteed greeting at the door, brings your slippers to you, a wag of the tail and a cuddle if needed

and so we put up with him!

Mummadeze · 14/02/2025 11:12

I am, but my parents and sister are very generous towards me. Even though I earn well, and am not poor. They are just a lot richer.
