Just being nosy?
Whose the poorest and Why?

OP posts:
Scrubberdubber · 12/02/2025 14:39

The alcoholic trailer trash father (sorry dad)

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 12/02/2025 14:40

Well there's only me and my brother and he's married and they both work, so it will be me who's the poorer, because I'm single. So one income versus two incomes, it's not rocket science.

KestrelRobinBirdWatcher · 12/02/2025 14:40

Genuinely wouldn't even know....have a variety of circumstances in family,

ThejoyofNC · 12/02/2025 14:40

SIL because she's a lazy selfish idiot.

Tbh though I think it's absolutely shit being the highest earning family member. Everyone always expects you to fund anything and everything. Ended up NC hence my username, because they're a pack of greedy takers (not my family, my ILs).

Hortus · 12/02/2025 14:41

An adult child. Didn't go to university although had A level grades good enough to get to a decent one. Went to college to get a qualification in a job that offers very little career progression. Will be doing the same lowpaid work at 40 and 60 as they did at 20.

ElsaLion · 12/02/2025 14:42

From my PIL's perspective, us. Because we chose to marry and start our family whilst young, with career development a second priority. DH and his brother were educated at Eton, and PIL aspired for him to go into banking or law. We feel we have still done well for ourselves, we married and bought our own house at 26, first child at 27 (two more have since followed) and we're both in comfortable professional jobs - DH has just received a good promotion.

BIL meanwhile has in a very high paying job, but he and SIL maxed out on a huge mortgage a few years ago, for which I know they are now dreading the remortgage rates.

Hillarious · 12/02/2025 14:43

My brother, because he still lives in the north of England and my house with worth 3x his.

Me, because I moved away from the north of England for work after uni and don't have the family support and enduring contact with friends my brother does.

MrsSunshine2b · 12/02/2025 14:43

Including in-laws, SIL because she chooses not to work.

Wellthisisshitty · 12/02/2025 14:44

Me. I've always been a lazy and made bad choices. I also hate working.

Luckily I'm married to my opposite. Unfortunately, he works for a local authority so while we are comfortable for us and our circumstances, if i was still in touch with my half siblings, they would probably look down on me.

Littletreefrog · 12/02/2025 14:22

I'm bored so I'll bite.
Me because I chose family over career and don't live to work like the rest of them.

Me too

Solaire18381 · 12/02/2025 14:46

Like other posters, mine is a brother, well BIL in my case. Didn't leave the family home or get a job until he was in his 40's. Had to leave the home when his parents died and it had to be sold on. Managed to get a social housing bedsit. Until then no pressure was put on him to ever stand on his own two feet.

Floofle · 12/02/2025 14:46

Me I suppose haha... Because I stayed in education for 10 years doing a PhD and went into academia, and my brother and sister both went corporate (they both have masters degrees).
I was also the first to have kids (have 2) who are in full-time nursery so we pay a lot for childcare atm. My sister complains about being skint but they are DINKs!
None of us are badly off though.

Definitely my 9 year old son. He’s in serious debt. To me. “I’ll pay you back…” aye ok 😂

🤣 ditto my daughters. Never once have they paid their way. Come to think of it I don’t think they have a penny to their names. Ages 3 & 6 months

Kuretake · 12/02/2025 14:48

My DS I think, he's unemployed and has very few assets. Sucks to be 10.

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 12/02/2025 14:48

Me.
I live in an expensive town and dont have a big fancy job

Having said that, we are not on the proverty line by any means and will have the mortgage paid off in 3 years

DeepfriedPizza · 12/02/2025 14:49

My 14 year old is cash richer than me but I have more in the way of assets as I have equity in my home.

Squidtentacles · 12/02/2025 14:50

We're all pretty level I think, luckily. All doing well but work hard and not rich.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 12/02/2025 14:50

@PassingStranger Why on earth are you asking this? Did you wake up this morning wondering who is the poorest person in a number of random strangers' families? Please us about your own family and what has made you think in this way before asking us.

YoungGunsHavingSomeFunCrazyLadiesKeepEmOnTheRun · 12/02/2025 14:27

Probably my 7yo dd, she doesn't have a job yet.

And probably has a lot of demands… 🤣 kids these days can’t teach them anything! 🤣

ABigBarofChocolate · 12/02/2025 14:51

Me. My husband earns what looks good on paper but the tax man is vicious. I don't have an income. We rent, we have an old car that's falling apart and can't afford to replace it. One sibling has 7 kids so is minted with benefits (not even kidding) and the other sibling's OH has a side hustle so is minted from that. (4+ Holidays, new clothes, 2 cars, mortgage)

Pelot · 12/02/2025 14:51

DB has been in the same minimum wage job since secondary. He's the only boy and parents propped him up and never expected him to lift a finger. All of the sisters have gone on to well paid corporate jobs. DB has married a horror show of a woman but mercifully they didn't have kids.

Bjorkdidit · 12/02/2025 14:52

Poor because of a low income or because they spend all their money on crap, which is not the same thing.

People think I'm rich because I have savings, but poor because I don't have a flash car or many other overt displays of consumerism.

Fortunately I'm a lot more content with my life than they are.

Catza · 12/02/2025 14:55

Both my aunt and my mum earn smaller salaries than me but both have mortgage-free properties. I guess my granny as a pensioner.

CaptainFuture · 12/02/2025 14:56

JudgeBread · 12/02/2025 14:34

The lazy, unemployed layabout who loafs around my house all day sleeping, eating or complaining we don't have enough food.

Yeah, have one of them too- totally takes over the tv too, screams when Iggle Piggle disappears from tv, made a lovely meal for him yesterday and he THREW it at me!!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 12/02/2025 14:56

Brother because he's a lazy drunk
