To think being single should be celebrated more than getting married?

Marriage gets all the glory, but choosing to focus on yourself or remain single is just as valid, if not braver.

Skandar · 10/02/2025 16:46

I really want to ban the use of the word 'valid' - its so overused....

Getting married is a change in your situation. Staying single is, well, staying the same. Nothing at all stopping you throwing a party to celebrate the fact if you want - I'm always up for a nice meal, drinks and some dancing.

UndermyShoeJoe · 10/02/2025 16:48

You could have a left the waste of space dh/dp party.

I'm buying one for dd and cooking her fave meal🥰 (sausages 🤭)

Enjoy, I think that's lovely! and how valentines should be celebrated x

I have cards for my kids already too. <3 <3

Enjoy your lovely day with your daughter x

Can't you just relax with an over priced bath bomb and keep repeating that to yourself?

Not sure we need an actual campaign for it? 😳

😩😄 no!

Felizsenora · 10/02/2025 16:50

ChocolatesAndRainbows · 10/02/2025 16:42

That's why I'm single lol but I am fine with that.

Snap!!!!

KilkennyCats · 10/02/2025 16:39

Whoever judges you won’t be swayed by a campaign from a company making bath products 🤷🏻‍♀️
Besides, companies run ad campaigns to increase sales.
Why would a campaign centring single mothers increase sales for any company?

Edited

There's loads of us - and single dads (who are the resident parent, not those men who see their kids once a month but use the title)

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 10/02/2025 16:51

Omg yes! No-one seems to know about it though, a viral ad campaign would raise awareness

Like for international women's day

Thank you and you 🥰

GingerBaby568 · 10/02/2025 17:16

People celebrate an occasion/event. No one actually gives a crap about your marriage. If you didn't throw a party when getting married, there would be no celebration.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 10/02/2025 17:19

I’m not sure many people think being single is something to be celebrated.

HipMax · 10/02/2025 17:22

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 10/02/2025 16:34

I think I'd love a single mother celebration campaign run by one of those companies trying to sell bath products, like dove

It would say 'a single parent family isn't a broken family'

That would be a stupid slogan.

And?

Comedycook · 10/02/2025 17:27

I think it is interesting what things we celebrate in society and what things we don't....you may have a point here op.

BigSharkey · 10/02/2025 17:28

I've been single 8 years not sure why that needs celebrating tbh 🤔

UndermyShoeJoe · 10/02/2025 17:30

This is a bit like child free people wanting something back threads that pop up. But when would you award them with something for being Childfree? 50?60?70?

How many years single to make it a big thing? Though nuns and monks are celibate aren’t they? You could always join them for recognition.

Just that really

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 10/02/2025 17:34

Getting married is an event. Being single is a state of being which at any point in your life may or may not continue. When would you celebrate it? You might have a big 'Yay I'm staying single' party at age 30, then meet someone and get married 2 years later!

MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking · 10/02/2025 17:36

I would throw a special single party with a big meal and dancing and jet off on a solo long haul holiday afterwards but I can't afford to due to paying the mortgage and bills all by myself.

ByGraceAlone · 10/02/2025 17:39

Single parent families are not statiscally good for children's outcomes.

Doesn't mean you personally are are not a great parent doing a great job in less than ideal circumstances but we have days to celebrate that: mothers and fathers day.

We can celebrate individuals without as a society having a 'campaign' to celebrate for something which on the whole isn't a great thing.

Also we celebrate marriage because it's a public commitment to an institution which is the basis for family and society. Or was supposed to be.

Celebrating a continued lack of commitment to others sounds pointless, and not a value I'd want a healthy society to promote.

I mean do what you want and if you have people who want to celebrate your single status do it but I don't want to 'celebrate' every choice everyone makes.

MummaCub · 10/02/2025 17:40

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 10/02/2025 17:33

Why???

Just what single mums need—some patronising ad campaign to reassure us our families aren’t ‘broken'....

Savemefromwetdog · 10/02/2025 17:43

Prepared to be shot down but… while I have the utmost admiration for single parents, I don’t think it’s something to ‘celebrate’. It’s making the most of the situation, it’s not an ideal outcome.

So is being poor, being from certain places up and down the country, being of a various heritage, going to various schools

Saying these things to someone would mske you incredibly rude

But actually there are plenty of kids from single parent families who do well and succeed and most of all, are happy

Single parenthood is a great thing, just like being from a poor area is, or just like being from a country that isn't respected

Edited as had to see to dinner

Statistically lots of things could go wrong when raising a child. A positivity movement is needed for us single parents who have commited to our children 🥰
