Do what do you suggest???
We need more housing, partly because we need extra but mostly actually because the current stock aren't in the right places, are the "wrong" type and most of all because the ones we do have are under occupied often by 2-3 rooms.
How I suggest dealing with our housing issues are:
In urban and highly populated suburban communities all housing must be a minimum of 3 floors, ideally 4 if the terrain suits it with parking under the house (I've had this, it was great), smaller residences will be apartments or maisonettes with all ground floors built as accessible accommodation automatically.
Now for the more important change, companies should be given tax breaks to relocate from areas where housing is a problem to the parts of the country where there's empty properties and brownfield sites suitable for large scale housing projects eg the north east.
Finally scrapping stamp duty for people over 60 downsizing by at least 2 bedrooms to properties of 2 or fewer bedrooms worth under £500k to incentivise downsizing freeing up large properties. I haven't thought through this obvious, I'm not a politician or housing expert but I see through work so many couples and single older people in houses of 4 or 5 bedrooms they are struggling to maintain yet they won't move because of the cost of moving.
