Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

The absolutely ARE big enough to get changed in. That’s why they’re called changing robes.

Whippetlovely · 07/02/2025 19:09

I have one to wear whilst watching my child play sports in the freezing cold, they keep you really warm. I use my other coats for any other occasions as they do look a bit ridiculous they are bloody huge.

Printedword · 07/02/2025 19:11

They aren't unstylish, just an alternative vibe. Frankly, if you are in the way to the Cornish surf by train you don't really have the packing capacity to put it in the suitcase, so may as well wear it.

I'm in a landlocked county, the wild river swimmers wear them. Not just down by the riverside, also in Waitrose 🤣

TheCatsTongue · 07/02/2025 19:13

Lots of pictures of men in DryRobes on that site too, I suppose that's misogynistic?

Billybagpuss · 07/02/2025 19:14

My name is billybagpuss and I’m a dryrobewanker.

mine is the original dryrobe bought when you could get one for under £100 and no one had heard of them. If the lake I swim in is sub 5 degrees I will keep my dry robe on when I shop in Waitrose on the way home. I must look a right prat. But I’m warm and don’t care.

It was funny on a recent holiday to Iceland though when you could play spot the brits as they were all in dry robes. I didn’t take mine.

Being a DryRobe Wanker ( and surfer/wild swimmer) myself I totally agree!
There’s various SM feeds like this - and as I live in a seaside town Inrecognise some of the ‘wankers’ and the locations.
One was posted of a DRW crossing a road - the road opposite our main beach as it happens but you couldn’t tell that from the photo. What a wanker! Walking back to their car after a swim!
Another one was a friend of mine in a CO-OP - DRW is shopping! Yeah, she was because that Co—Op is right around the corner from the beach and We often pop in post swim to pick up breakfast bits before heading home to shower/change for work.

You’ll find OP that it’s mainly angry men posting - because how dare a women wear something - practical, oversized, warm that allows her to keep dry watching her kids play sport, or after exercising. Or for camping or walking the dog in awful weather. Or heaven forbid - change clothes discreetly in. Public place.
wankers!!!!!

Hmm. Lowestoft?

GreenYellowBrown · 07/02/2025 19:16

It’s an awful website and the people on there are vile. The coats actually look really comfy and warm but I won’t be buying one now as I don’t want to be put on the internet to have the piss ripped out of me.

Damnloginpopup · 07/02/2025 19:17

paradisecityx · 07/02/2025 16:07

I've got one for walking my dog when it's pissjng down. I live in Kent, miles from the coast, and I couldn't give a shiny shit what people think.
What a weird world we live in 🤔 do people genuinely not have better things to be doing with their time?

My dog has one. The wanker 😁

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/02/2025 19:19

I find it quite funny to be honest and I do think it’s funny when people randomly wear them as coats but I’m sure many wouldn’t like my fashion choices either. 🤣

Tbf, they’re more tarpaulin than coat. But I can’t fathom anyone wearing those gopping duvet coats. Each to their own!

Ahh there you see I’m a duvet coat wanker some days 🤣

The Facebook page is hysterical. They judge everyone by their proximity to the beach without considering that we drive to lakes and rivers. With maybe one or 2 exceptions they are dressed in the get your feet warm quickly and put the dry robe on style of proper outdoor swimmers. And surely wearing them for 90 minutes in the frickin cold for watching your kids play football is sensible.

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 19:28

Damnloginpopup · 07/02/2025 19:17

My dog also has one. The wanker! Someone bought it as a joke present but you know what? In winter it keeps the mud and muck off !

To be fair they’re £45 that’s a very decent joke present.

my dog wouldn’t wear one. She’s a stuck up collie but I’d definitely get one if I thought for one minute she wouldn’t try to eat it.

fingerbobz · 07/02/2025 19:32

They're usually from
The back. No faces shown

Sometimes it's men too

But still weird

I’m judging her name - Daisy Mae. Classy.

Feel free to 😂

The Wolef fleece though is a thing of beauty- and fabled on mn, maybe they're just admiring the Wolefs?

@Benjibas

It's a deeply ableist unpleasant page full of awful people.

Love the name. 90’s night out.

The least someone could do if they want a pic is to ask me to rearrange my fringe and ask me to smile. I’d to a galinda toss toss and pose

People who wear them on the school run do look a bit wankerish to be fair

Agreed. Or around the supermarket on a perfectly dry day.

Ivyiris · 07/02/2025 19:42

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/02/2025 16:02

You can only be a dry robe wanker if you're wearing one miles from the sea, I.e in Asda. Plus points for wearing with crocs. And it's definitely not just women they target!

Agree it's a bit mean but all faces have to be blanked out.

I had a look and there is ones where a child's face is clearly recognizable.

What's wrong with making use of something that costs of hundreds of pounds?! I don't have one and no interest in having one but I don't understand the issue. Why are you ONLY allowed to wear one at the seaside?!? This is England! We get about 4 days of hot enough weather to swim in the sea, a year!

Imagine having a perfectly functioning raincoat but not wearing as one and buying a separate raincoat, purely because of social acceptance?!

Agreed. Or around the supermarket on a perfectly dry day.

It’s not the dryness of the day it’s the temperature of the water. If it’s sub 10 there’s a strong chance of after drop that can cause hypothermia so it’s safer to keep the dry robe on. So if you need to pick up wine or milk on the way home you run the risk of judgment in the supermarket.
