Dryrobe W****r

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

I’ll be honest, my husband and I are always judging people who wear them. Quietly to each other.

That being said, the fact there are people who are photographing others to notch about on social media, thats just pathetic. I’m definitely judging them way harder than I judge the dry robe wankers.

Also it’s just creepy that people do this.

judging for WHAT exactly?

For making use of a warm and waterproof outwear that cost you more than £160 and wearing it more than twice? 😂

I am sure we could "judge" your outfits? What a strange thing to.
What do you judge exactly?

OVienna · 07/02/2025 18:48

DH bought me a huge waterproof coat for xmas which is basically like a great big hug. Could be a formal 'dry robe' in the eyes of some.

I live in the fucking UK and I commute via walking to the tube and back and the weather stinks many days.

I'd have a dry robe in every colour I fancied if I could justify the expense.

Fuck those Facebook page wankers.

I’m judging her name - Daisy Mae. Classy.

I've never heard of a dry robe. I now want to google but am afraid of what will come up!
Oh now I have, they look warm, suitable for outdoorsy activities. What's the big deal?

they tend to be massive, unless you size down a lot, because they're designed to be used as a "changing place" too.

They are not necessarily the most practical for everything, but once you start wearing them, you don't want to wear something else 😂

I totally judge people wearing outside of the original purpose - so basically all the mums on the school run thinking they are being fashionable but actually they look atrocious. Just looks like a tent and is not a good look on anyway shape or form. It tends to be the larger lady who wears them and maybe they think it’s a better look? Trust me it isn’t.

Maybe people don't give a shit about appearances though. Some people wear things for practicality. I look ridiculous in mine as I'm small and it's too big for me, and i only wear it if it's pelting it down (my OH has taken it as his coat). I don't give a shit about looking classy in a classic trench coat it it's hammering down and blowing a gale.

And who the fuck dresses up for the school run?!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 07/02/2025 18:49

I think it's quite funny. I'm a DRW. I wear one after sea swimming, and often also wear fleece lined Crocs so I'm a double whammy.

If I wear one in public, anyone is entitled to take a photo of me. I only ever wear it after swimming but if I'd discovered them when DS was little and I was spending hours beside a freezing cold football field at weekends I'd have definitely worn one then.

ValentineValentineV · 07/02/2025 18:49

I’ve just had a look at did have a chuckle at a dog wearing a little matching dry robe.

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 07/02/2025 18:50

It is the best investment in clothing I have ever made

Yes!! As a person who lives by the sea who swims and walks my dog.. in all weathers .. yes it is..

I am size 8 and 5.10. I don't think I am "massive" but I couldn't care less what people think about my coat!

I am not dressing for you 😂

I bet if you put a photo of you in your coats, we will have a lot to say too. You. must be so bored if you have nothing better than judging people on the school run!

I would never stop taking pictures if I had to take pics of every person I saw in a dry robe (live in a seaside town). Coincidentally I saw a chap in a humdinger of a wolf fleece this morning and noted to myself that I hadn't seen one in ages. What is the new wolf fleece, I wonder?

I saw one with the wolf howling up towards a dream catcher.

ODFOx · 07/02/2025 18:54

What is the difference between a dry robe, a big warm waterproof coat and one of the waterproof oodies please?
I don't do waterspouts so I have no reason for a dry robe, but they aren't big enough to get changed under are they? So what is the purpose? Thanks

MissJoGrant · 07/02/2025 18:54

I've noticed loads of people wearing them at the football.

Theresidents · 07/02/2025 18:56

It looks like the pictures of the same fat woman?!

I remember the Full Kit wanker page where people would post pictures of grown men out and about in full football kits.

Can't get myself would up about this.

That IS a crime though 🙈 Men in football socks when they're not needed to contain shinpads are obscene.

Big, warm, waterproof, fugly coats serve a purpose.

I have worn my Dry robe more than ANY single piece of clothing I have ever owned! It’s more than 10 years old and looks new. They’re brilliant, for anyone who wants a big fuck off coat!
They’re designed to be something that you change inside off… hence the size. They’re designed to protect you from rain, water, waves - waterproof. They’re meant to dry you wehen wet - hence the Sherpa fleece.
Anyone who says they’re ugly really is missing the point, we know they’re are!

DryRobe
Sherpa fleece lining - dries your body.
Size - big enough to change in.
Properly waterproof - for the wind and rain and waves. Can throw it on wet ground to sit on. Stand in it dripping wet after swimming.
fleece lined pockets - snuggly for frozen wet hands.
Huge deep pockets - with zips - keep all your stuff in sometimes including hip flask, bottle of water, flask of hot tea
Hood - snuggly, lining dried wet hair.
hidden smaller op lets - phone, keys, wallet whatever.

I quite often get out of the water, put robe on, over swimmers, drive home. Car stays dry.

OVienna · 07/02/2025 19:03

I've just had a look at one of the pages. It is literally photos of people going about their day-to-day business, quite innocently. Not showing off or doing anything whatsoever to draw attention to themselves.

"Here's a picture of a woman getting into her car - so hilarious!"

It's really not.

I think the FB pages with people trying to sell shite are totally fair game, in contrast (and can be quite funny...)

if you buy the right size, they are more than big enough to get changed.

They're especially great when you do muddy sports and your dirty clothes stick and are a pain to remove.

Dry robes are even better to wind haters on the school run or in town 😂
I am very tempted to get a bright pink one just to make it even more noticeable.

The Wolef fleece though is a thing of beauty- and fabled on mn, maybe they're just admiring the Wolefs?

@Benjibas

Ah, the Wolef fleece threads back in the day.

Didn't they start after an episode on the Apprentice where the task was TV selling and they had to shift a load of fleeces embroidered with wolves howling at the moon? Grin
