Dryrobe W****r

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

Also a good blanket for the dog to sleep on in the pub

This is clearly not the point of this thread, but how do you wash them, or do you need to wash them? Asking on the assumption that the fleece acts like a towel, and towels need frequent washing.

Not really - it’s Sherpa fleece so doesn’t absorb like towel, and it sort of wipe clean though you can throw in a cold wash if you really want to but Inwouldnt advise any detergent or anything.
I know that probably doesn’t sound very hygienic but mine has been fine for years and years with a wipe or a brush and really doesn’t need much washing at all!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/02/2025 23:04

I do think dry robes when not worn for their intended purpose (such as getting changed after outdoor swimming) can look a bit silly. Especially when worn with impractical trousers and shoes so the wearer still has wet legs and feet.

For example, we sometimes go to an outdoorsy place with lots of activities on holiday (not centre Parcs!), including in the winter, people were shuffling about in dry robes with crocs looking incredibly miserable - it just wasn’t the right place for them - you needed walking boots/ shoes, decent jackets and waterproof trousers. Stuff you could move about in as well as be dry.

However taking pictures of women and children and publishing them to call them wankers, is wankerish behaviour!

A dry robe is good in his place!

I dont know why people choose dry robe over a normal coat for day to day life

I think this would be my question too.

i mean I don’t mind if people do but I also wonder.

spikefaithbuffy · 07/02/2025 23:38

Sometimes for me it's just what I have to hand

So I'll either be coming back from swimming which is why I'm wearing it. Or I'm going to the supermarket or something, get there and it starts chucking down, and the robe is the only coat in my car!

I do live in the NW so weather is.. unpredictable Grin

I feel the cold. Really feel the cold. I don't have a dry robe, but I would live in one if I could.

I will admit I used to think the wolf fleeces were a bit sad. But then I thought about the clothes I love, and how people might think they sad or weird. And then I thought: those people are getting joy from the clothes they are wearing, just like i get joy from my clothes. So power to them.
And now seeing people wearing wolf fleeces makes me happy, because those people are wearing what they love.

ByWaryCrab · 08/02/2025 00:02

What? Up towelling a female child of fourteen? So up skirting is illegal but a grown man can up towel a child?

Chumpfriend · 08/02/2025 00:14

As a bit of a contrarian - who largely resists going anywhere too outdoors - this thread has made me really really want one 😂

BUY IT. BUY IT. I really like the one I’ve seen Michelle keegan wear. An olive green with black fleece lined. You’ll find so many uses for it. Festivals when it’s raining and you get them muddy. But the material is really durable so a quick wipe and looks brand new.

I have a collection of coats as winter is my favourite season and this gets the most use.

Ive had a few people say can we feel inside of them. Other women! Saying oh it looks cool on a dreary day like this

I adore mine for dog walks, school drop offs and watching the kids play sport on a freezing Sunday morning.

Seeing as when we have a washing thread, mumsnetters wash a towel after every use then yeah. But in reality towels don't need washing as much as mumnetters think.

Was she? She didn't mention it 🤣

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 08/02/2025 06:52

Slightly off point, but I love the fact that there are so many open water swimmers on this thread

I wore mine last weekend. Outdoor temperature was minus 5, water temperature was 4C. I was bloody glad of it afterwards. There were 22 of us swimming together and I think everyone was wearing a version of a Dry Robe.

WhenTheyComeForYou · 08/02/2025 06:55

It’s a mean spirited group, for sad wankers it seems.

Fizbosshoes · 08/02/2025 07:59

Do supermarkets have dress codes? Do other people have specific outfits to go to waitrose?

I often stop off at the co-op on the way back from parkrun in running kit, sometimes I'm quite muddy. I haven't dressed like that to go to the supermarket I'm simply going on the way back from somewhere else and don't want to go home and shower and change in to "supermarket-wear" (whatever that might be) first. Presumably the same is the case with DRW

Of course it is! I coach an outdoor sport and on Sunday afternoons am quite often in the supermarket on the way home filthy! Joggers tucked into big socks m, mud spattered, club training too wet and muddy, dragging two soggy muddy kids clattering behind me in boots… one even wore my Dry Robe becuase they’d got soaked through playing in the rain.

bluegreen89 · 08/02/2025 09:36

Whilst I think it’s weird and unnecessary to take photos of people and put them on a public website, I do roll my eyes every time I see people who aren’t wild swimming/sea swimming in a dry robe. I see them at the park/supermarket/on the bus etc. People who claim it’s cold so they need them… haven’t they heard of a winter coat?! Sometimes my stepson wears one when I pick him up from school and I obviously don’t say anything but I just wonder how it’s happened that people have convinced themselves that normal winter coats aren’t ’enough’. Anyway.

JJZ · 08/02/2025 09:55

Perhaps is borne from jealousy as they’re quite expensive?

I have a similar coat (Rein Coat) for wearing on our smallholding. You know, using something for its designed purpose 😂

It’s so warm and dry I love it . I wouldn’t care what anyone thinks. Least I’m not wet (or a massive dick).

They go in the washing machine. I wssh mine often, it gets filthy!!

Why are they only acceptable for swimming though? They're clearly cosy, comfortable and most importantly, waterproof. That makes them suitable for variety of things that don't include swimming.

I'm definitely considering one as I'm a football mum and dog walker. Not keen on the logo on the back though.

pimplebum · 08/02/2025 10:35

I’ve just checked it out

its pure woman hating, fat shaming etc. class bashing , jealousy …how dare a woman buy an expensive coat and go on a flight , to the races, leisurely walk the dog or otherwise be seen living a nice life - get back in shape and put sexy clothes on and clean the dishes woman !!!

Because they’re towels with sleeves. That’s the whole point of them. Get a waterproof winter coat. People managed to stay warm and dry before dry robes existed. And yes agrees the logo is awful x

I don't think they're designed - but stand to be corrected - to wear whilst swimming, but a useful and warm garment to put on afterwards....so possible someone could have been wild swimming and then got on a bus/gone to the park or supermarket? .....but even if they hadn't swum at all it's just an alternative to a winter coat isn't it? Although they are probably a bit longer than a bog standard coat.
I mean trainers are an alternative to shoes, but no one polices whether you can or do run marathons, if you're wearing them!
