Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

Out of roughly 9 billion people on the planet, the most powerful person is....Donald Trump. It's bat shit. Completely bat shit crazy.

HeddaGarbled · 05/02/2025 19:20

No 16% don’t think Trump is right - they think the OP is unreasonable to think it will happen.

squidgie · 05/02/2025 19:20

I honestly don't think people realise what bad news this all is, for us too.

I can see Farage being ushered in with fanfare in four years, Elon Musk swinging his wrecking ball within days, with Andrew Tate as a minister for equalities perhaps?

We should fight this stuff now.

romatheroamer · 05/02/2025 19:20

Of course he has an effect in the UK when Starmer and Lammy have to tie themselves in knots in statements pretending he's OK when they don't believe a word of it. At least we can say what we think of him while leading politicians here are bound to go along with what a lot of "ill-advised" (trying to use a kind word there) Americans decided.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/02/2025 19:20

squidgie · 05/02/2025 18:57

Exactly, and it will happen here too if Reform get into power. Elon Musk will be brought in to do the same here.

I'm not too worried about this. By the time of the next GE, Trump and Musk will have fallen out spectacularly and this POTUS will be either br gone or will be King of America.

Weedoormatnomore · 05/02/2025 19:21

I do feel he is hiding his true intentions under all the madness.

But he hasn’t said he’s throwing them out of a Gaza permanently? He’s said they need to be removed temporarily to other surrounding countries whilst Gaza is being rebuilt. Which makes sense, as due to the actions of Hamas, the place is flattened, and not habitable, yet people are pouring into the area. There literally is no infrastructure.

Let's face it, we all know he'd just turn Gaza into a Middle Eastern golf course.

May you live in interesting times…

All the shit he's pulling on the 'world stage' is to keep people's minds off of his real objective; turning the US into an oligarchy with him as the Head Oligarch. Thing is, he's too stupid to realize that Musk, Thiel and the others in the Cabal are feeding his ego, but will get rid of him as soon as it happens. He's basically their shill at this point and when they've accomplished their goals, he'll be toast.

How did it happen? I don't know. Complacency, belief that our Constitution was our safeguard and not seeing that it all depended on powerful people behaving honourably? We can point to a thousand different things and I expect it's a little bit of all of them. But that's sort of water under the bridge. The question now is how (or if) we can get out of this mess.

I know that you are far far better placed than me to judge this, but I still think that Trump will make mincemeat of Musk.
As much as I abhor the man I think he's a much wilier old fox than Musk is.

Livelovebehappy · 05/02/2025 19:24

Seriouslynonono · 05/02/2025 19:19

Yeah but if he's spending the money, he'll rebuild it in the likeness he wants, in the manner of Trump, and he will lay claim to any money made from the new area I expect.
Imagine suddenly having Trump as your new landlord?!
He hasn't said anything about taking the walls down . . . .

But surely having a roof over their heads, running water, an actual infrastructure, is preferable to what they already have, which is absolutely nothing. The place is now just a pile of rubble. The Palestinians won’t give a jot who is their ‘landlord’ if they’ve got homes to go to, and not tents.

I feel like I'm in Back to the Future II - surreal!

The amount of media time given to his incoherent ramblings is insane. How did America come to this?

Sadly there are many Americans who will support him entirely, making America great again.

Nanny0gg · 05/02/2025 17:44

Have you read how Elon Musk has moved some of his (young) employees into Govt offices?

He's getting into their systems and replacing their code.

There is no knowing what he's accessing and what he's going to change

That's even more terrifying

Read Heather Cox Richardson on Facebook

What I really fear is that Musk is being set up to be the next President. Either by himself or by Trump, by him having an inside track to government. And if he manages not to completely crash America I can see the Republicans might well go for it. Trump has been a winner for them, Musk would be Trump mk2.

Musk is a very very dangerous loose canon. He could (you wouldn't think it was possible) be worse than the Orange One.

Vitriolinsanity · 05/02/2025 19:31

I'd bet good money if shown a map he couldn't find Gaza.

I found myself actually considering his plan for the time it was on the news. In essence Gaza is a demolition zone, if a person had the choice why would they choose to live there. There's a certain logic to thinking outside the box.

But the salient point is that I'm not Palestinian and have no right to impose that thinking on what anyone considers their home.

Painting it Trump gold and calling it a Riviera isn't just polishing a poorly conceived turd of an idea. Particularly when you're standing next to Netanyahu.

delvan · 05/02/2025 19:32

Was Musk born in America, I think it was South Africa. But I suppose that prerequisite for candidacy for POTUS could be changed. Watch this space.

Adelstrop · 05/02/2025 17:37

I’m waiting for him to suggest that the population of England should be relocated to the Australian outback so that he can turn It into a giant golf course.

Don’t be giving him any ideas!

suburberphobe · 05/02/2025 18:13

Poor choice of words.....

He wants the Palestinians from Gaza to be replaced to Jordan and Egypt.

Yes, he's totally off his rocker. God help the world.

Not a poor choice of words.

That is exactly what ethnic cleansing is!

NeelyOHara1 · 05/02/2025 19:40

His appeal is that he speaks his brain farts which can come across as "change" as opposed to the Democrat cookie cutter comment by committee status quo merchants. Bernie Sanders being the exception!

merrymelodies · 05/02/2025 19:41

Yes. It's so much worse than the last time that idiot was in the White House. We were watching the Handmaid's Tale recently and it's terrifying to realize that it might not be that far from reality.

Redheadedstepchild · 05/02/2025 19:45

I'm no political expert but I think what he does is:

Propose something completely outrageous, get everybody in a panic then negociate a climbdown. He's a New York real estate developer in origin. We're kind of living in an 1980's Sidney Sheldon novel with him.

HPFA · 05/02/2025 19:47

coldcallerbaiter · 05/02/2025 18:34

I think he has got carried away with his ideas. It is meddling and whilst the British division had good intentions, we are in a different era now. Let the Israelis handle it themselves, I don’t hold out much hope of peace now. Americans have plenty of coastline to invest in. How does this benefit them? American taxpayers won’t want to invest in this piece of land. So he wants businesses to invest? The Palestinians would benefit from a cash injection and jobs, but they would resent it too, This riviera of the Middle East would get bombed to high heaven by terrorists /freedom fighters anyway

Edited

Exactly.

Apart from the immorality of ethnic cleansing the plan is utterly bonkers. Are American soldiers going to force two million people out of their homes and dump them in the desert? How many would be killed doing that? Why would any companies invest in a piece of land that would be subject to constant threat? Who foots the bill for keeping the buildings and construction workers safe?

And who wants to stay in a luxury hotel built on a graveyard surrounded by armed guards and under constant threat of attack? Not exactly a relaxing hiday is it?

He's not planning on giving them homes. They're all going to be dumped in Egypt and Jordan, apparently.

FirefliesintheHydrangeaBushes · 05/02/2025 19:54

Sadly I am not sure America is losing the respect of the world.

Over half the world does not live in a democracy. Plenty of loony leaders around. More of the world than I would like to contemplate respect him just fine and think he has some great ideas.
