Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

I would recommend the BBC podcast The Coming Storm to understand (a bit) how we got here. Although with the caveat that it's absolutely terrifying and makes me feel quite bleak about the future for democracy.

I also read a couple of books that I was lent by a friend last time he was president. One was written by his niece and the other by a group of psychologists. They both left me feeling very uneasy. His nieces’ book paints a picture of the awful Trump family that spawned him. The other a collection of opinions based on observations of his behaviour by various psychologists. Listed below if anyone is interested.

Too Much and Never enough by Mary L Trump
The dangerous case of Donald Trump by Bandy X Lee

Tourism …. Plenty of other countries economies rely on tourism. It’s not the worst idea - employment, revenues perhaps increase standard of living.

why should “Rivera” type tourism on the much protested about “sea” be an instant NO. ?

So you think any hypothetical profits would be given to the Palestinians? The ones he's said will be made to leave?

Canadian here and terrified.

I think he is looking to destabilize the Middle East, which will result in terrorist attacks on American soil, and then use that fear to further remove American rights in the name of protecting them.

Elon is fucking crazy and he is looking for complete chaos and anarchy.

I don't blame you for being scared. I think I'd be feeling the same if I was Canadian.

Melonmango70 · 05/02/2025 18:55

Errr....we all live in this world (this global community!) No man is an island! No country is an island (apart from in the literal sense). I really hope you are joking :/

NewHeaven · 05/02/2025 18:56

Well I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't an unofficial done deal with the Israelis and the Americans. Hamas handed Gaza to the hardline Israelis and the Americans on a plate. The fecking eejits, they'll be building luxury apartments & golf courses within 5 years. Plus lining the pockets of Trump and Jared Kushner and the land grabbers.

This was the plan all along, the hardliners and US saw an opportunity to kick out the Palestinians & move more settlers in. Ironically nobody objected with Israeli hardliners believe the land from the Mediterranean to the Jordan river is a God-given Jewish right. However, the phrase 'from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' is regarded as anti semitic. People might think Trump's comments are batshit crazy but unfortunately he's voiced aloud what a lot of Israelis might think privately.

All of this nonsense about Greenland, Gaze etc is a distraction. It's designed to make us all look this way while he quietly destroys the US government in the background.

Exactly, and it will happen here too if Reform get into power. Elon Musk will be brought in to do the same here.

JHound · 05/02/2025 18:59

He can say whatever he wants because his based is deranged and worship him and the Democrats are weak.

So he can call for ethnic cleansing and his fanbots will defend him. They have already started here.

He also mentioned colonising the West Bank. I wonder if the Israeli populace will cheerfully go along with the liquidation of Gaza by their deranged leader and if Americans will stomach loss of American lives to support Israel’s expanionist plans.

But he said before he was elected exactly what his intentions were so… shrugs.

Because of the resentment and hatred - The Palestinians could benefit from redevelopment but they are even more pissed off after being razed to the ground and think America backs Israel and they hate Israel. If Saudi developed them, that would be feasible, but Saudi isn’t interested.

Its not a bad idea. It’s better to have a rethink than repeat history I just don’t think it would work. The place would get infiltrated by agitators again. Let the surrounding countries work it out. Best not to get involved.

I’m waiting for him to suggest that the population of England should be relocated to the Australian outback so that he can turn It into a giant golf course.

I said the same about Scotland. Perhaps he plans to move all of the Scots to Wales and N. Ireland, so that he can expand his golf courses and hotels….

He is the one who is anti immigration, doesn't want immigrants in the US, yet expects that Jordan and Egypt will accept 2 million Palestinians.

If he weren't a world leader, he would be hilarious.

Narcissist.

Mommybunny · 05/02/2025 19:03

I wonder if the Arab Americans in Dearborn Michigan are patting themselves on the back for voting for Trump because Kamala was too close to “Genocide Joe”.

A whole lot of conjecture, absolutely zero facts. "...what a lot of Israelis might think privately" is an absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical thing for you to be saying 🤦🏻‍♀️

And that slogan Hamas and their supporters are so fond of is anti-semitic. Not thinking Jewish people have the right to their homeland is just as despicable as thinking Palestinians don't also have a right to it. Don't you want to be better than the people you seem to despise so much?

So since Trump was inaugurated he has at break neck speed
Sent troops to the border.
Stopped catch and release
Sent a clear message to illegal aliens and illegal criminals
Declared war on the drug gangs.
Negotiated an agreement with Mexico to at least attempt to stop the drugs crossing into usa.
Called out Trudeau for his lax attitude to illegal drugs and got a result in that canada will reinforce the border.
Set into law the Laken Reilly act.
Has started cost cutting in all govt depts. And calling outridiculous wastage of tax payers money . Sorry when have we heard those words here.
Wants people back to the office to increase productivity. ( I'm all for that )
The politicians are always at the trough . What have the dems really being doing with USAID
Seems a bit of money laundering going on
This is totally refreshing as a voter.
As for Gaza,
I mean why should trillions of dollars be thrown at gaza for it to obliterated again and again.i think we need to wait and see what happens. If the usa were in Gaza that's it hopefully peace. In actual fact I am enjoying a non career politician working the govt as a business and having respect for the American tax payers.he is America first and has never started any war in his last 4 years. He certainly does not want US deaths so let's wait and see.
If the same thing is done to " help" gaza again sure it will be back to square one in no time
What was instigated before does NOT work. Its a total-hi% hole .needs to be leveled is right Hamas are evil personified plus they
depend on the world defending gaza and you know what if clearing it stops senseless violence so be it

Anyone follow Riley Gaines??
She is delighted he has brought into law no men in women's sports. To me common sense is prevailing and DEI which was completely ridiculous is being replaced ny people getting jobs on merit. He is calling a halt on trans ideology

See crime rates down in NYC. Funny how goos America with real leadership and not a puppet is coming across.
He is refreshing . I must admit Gaza floored me but I hate Hamas so hey let's pull the rug from under their terrorist arses and see what happens.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/02/2025 19:04

All the shit he's pulling on the 'world stage' is to keep people's minds off of his real objective; turning the US into an oligarchy with him as the Head Oligarch. Thing is, he's too stupid to realize that Musk, Thiel and the others in the Cabal are feeding his ego, but will get rid of him as soon as it happens. He's basically their shill at this point and when they've accomplished their goals, he'll be toast.

How did it happen? I don't know. Complacency, belief that our Constitution was our safeguard and not seeing that it all depended on powerful people behaving honourably? We can point to a thousand different things and I expect it's a little bit of all of them. But that's sort of water under the bridge. The question now is how (or if) we can get out of this mess.

Brainstorm23 · 05/02/2025 19:05

@100A Steve Bannon was on a podcast and explained the strategy pretty well. Trump knows this is all nonsense but the endless stream of bullshit announcements is a distraction from what he's actually up to. For example birth right citizenship is in the US constitution. No executive order can override that. It lasted all of 2 days

If your response to this from Trump is to somehow blame voters who wouldn’t vote for Biden, or who voted for Stein then there are just no words.

To be fair that seems quite appealing given the horrible weather here. 😂

youve987456 · 05/02/2025 19:09

A few phrases regularly spring to mind with the Americans and this crazy situation.

Fuck around and find out
Your reap what you sow
Thoughts and prayers

This would all amuse me massively if Trump was being isolationist but everything he is doing will eventually impact us.

FreedomandPeace · 05/02/2025 19:11

Wow 16% think Trump is right to do this . 🤯

Seriouslynonono · 05/02/2025 19:15

It's like an episode of the Simpsons where Homer becomes President 😆

Livelovebehappy · 05/02/2025 19:16

But he hasn’t said he’s throwing them out of a Gaza permanently? He’s said they need to be removed temporarily to other surrounding countries whilst Gaza is being rebuilt. Which makes sense, as due to the actions of Hamas, the place is flattened, and not habitable, yet people are pouring into the area. There literally is no infrastructure.

Nanny0gg · 05/02/2025 19:17

@Radyward
You ok with Musk accessing your personal details soon?

Sacking people because he feels like it?
Blocking access to crucial info because he feels like it?
Re-routing money to where he likes?

With his personal unauthorised young employees?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 05/02/2025 19:19

@username299 "The government you elect is the government you deserve. Thomas Jefferson"

I never get that quote, I didn't elect Cameron, Johnson or Truss and I certainly didn't deserve them.

Yeah but if he's spending the money, he'll rebuild it in the likeness he wants, in the manner of Trump, and he will lay claim to any money made from the new area I expect.
Imagine suddenly having Trump as your new landlord?!
He hasn't said anything about taking the walls down . . . .
