It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

Yes, unfortunately. I fear we underestimate Vance (and his puppeteers) at our peril. There's something deeply wrong with him, but he's smart.

It may be harder to buy an election in Europe, but they've been pretty successful at buying division. Brexit was certainly essentially bought.

The hope that I hold on to is that ultimately they will overplay their hands and/or back themselves into a corner that they can't get out of.
Trump will only be happy if he feels he is the best/cleverest/richest etc. Anyone with any ambition or ability will be a threat to him and he will have to get rid of them so he will only ever end up surrounded by incompetents 🤷🏻‍♀️

And then? He's not far away from that right now. Look at the paltry collection of no-marks he's surrounded himself with.

A significant proportion of Americans will identify with the paltry no-marks, since they lack the education and critical thinking skills to see through them. But if the USA loses its standing in the world (and it surely will with this bunch of twits running it) then the wealthy educated people in the USA won't want to go down with the sinking ship.

Vance has the charisma of a cabbage patch doll. Without Trump he’d struggle.

I’ve seen a theory that Vance is being sidelined - he’s not been “allowed” to talk about the big stuff in public. As they said on Pod Save America, it’s like he’s not allowed in the big boy meetings.

I'd like to think that, as personally, I'd enjoy nothing more than punching him in his smug lying face. But I suspect that once out from under Trump's thumb, we're going to be unpleasantly surprised by his political viability. Clearly some deep, long-term thought has been put into his future by some very wealthy and powerful people (Yarvin, Thiel et al).

That said, I'll be very, very happy to be proved wrong here.

Maybe. But in USA money is all powerful. Vance is there for his useful appeal to the thoughtless Trump lovers, given his 'hillbilly heritage' but hasn't got enough dosh to speak for himself. Trump is busily getting his revenge for not being accepted into the higher echelons of US Society, even more contemptuous of nouveaux than our own aristocracy. He won't be finished for a while yet. It's supremely depressing.
