Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

I'm not on X but can anyone verify that Musk put up a post about billionaires being fed up of subsidising everyone else? Saw it on FB lol but these days nothing would surprise me 😂

Turkeyneck101 · 20/02/2025 21:36

Trump is Musks ventriloquist dummy. Musk has got 2 contracts, one for 400m dollars for Tesla and one for 300 million for spacex in the last 2 weeks. Magas think he is doing his cost cutting for the good of the people....when all musk wants to do is be a trillionaire and go to Mars.

It's true that they aren't too bright:

"Yay, Trump is going to fire all the inefficient federal workers and cut funds to everything... Wait, what do you mean that I'm fired and my husband's farm subsidies have been cut? This must be a mistake, we voted for him three times, surely he doesn't mean to include us!"

They'll do anything but admit that they were wrong.

I think that's a pretty universal phenomenon though. Like all the people here who voted for Brexit and then were shocked to discover they couldn't just up and retire to Spain. Or the ones who blame the after effects on the remainers.

Let hope he goes to Mars sooner rather than later. Never to return.

I think that this differs in scale. Few people lost their jobs as a direct consequence of Brexit, whereas DOGE has been massacring hundreds of thousands of employees in a matter of weeks. For farmers in the UK there was around four years notice that things would be changing (even if they didn't specifically know what would replace the CAP). Farmers in the US on the other hand have been growing food for USAID only for the agency buying it to be shut down, and completing environmental projects only to have the grants they were expecting upon completion cut.

Nor for that matter has the UK seen a mass round-up of immigrants (legal or illegal, ICE don't care as they've got quotas to fill). European nationals already in the UK were offered settled status (though that hasn't been reciprocated everywhere) so no one's father has been arrested in a raid like in the US.

The personality cult is weird too. We haven't seen anything like that.

Just saw a video of a punch up at ice hockey and brawl

Looked bad but also they were just left to battering each other, no one stepped in. Bizarre

I dong think its necessarily US feeling causing the brawl.

I used to be an ice hockey fan after discovering it in Canada. I watched quite a bit in the late 90s. Brawls between the teams were really, really common. One time players were even joining in from the benches and the ice cleaning machine had to be used afterwards to clean the blood off the ice !!!

I came to the conclusion that brawling and ice hockey go hand in hand in Canada 😂

We’re big ice hockey fans - currently in Boston for the 4Nations final. Perfect evening - Canada won!

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 21/02/2025 05:49

Hockey has numerous brawls each game.

The booing though is new for Canada. We’re not usually so assertive.

‘O Canada’ had the lyrics changed at the start of the 4Nations final from “in all of us command” to “that only us command” in response to Trump’s ascertaining that Canada will become the 51st US state!

That’s perfection. 💕

We will never be Americans.

Oh, I agree it's different in scale. But I think the thought process has to be similar. I mean, in the run up to Brexit, there was plenty of information readily available as to what the likely (negative) outcomes and effects were going to be and people chose to ignore them. I do think there is a segment in the US that actively likes some of the cruelty of Trump's policies, but outside of that group, I think a lot of people were able to engage in cognitive dissonance about the outcome.

The USAID thing, I think is a little off, though, as that's something that wasn't really foreseeable in the run up to the election. While Project 2025 did outline a plan for it and Marjorie Taylor Green bleated about it, most voters were either unaware of that, believed Trump when he said he had nothing to do with P25, or wouldn't have cared anyway (a lot of Americans are really not switched on to the importance of foreign aid).

Caveat: my sister is a doctor who has been working on a USAID project for the past 10 years and even they were surprised by what's happened, both the speed and the scale. It's devastating.

Turkeyneck101 · 21/02/2025 13:47

Just watched a video which shows that musks economic drive has saved everyday Americans fighting to financially survive ... a whopping 13 cents per person...but .....trump is giving 4.5 trillion dollars tax cut to the super wealthy which is worth 13,000 dollars in tax to every American who pays tax.

Also watched James Carville educate Hannity on a few figures. It makes me sick watching musk the organ grinder with his monkey trump say he will stay to 'help' America so long as he is needed , except he didn't say he has been given a billion dollars in contracts for Tesla and Space x. Outta the kindness of his stone cold billion dollar heart.

I'm sure the usual fwits will be giggling about this on social media and denying it's a Nazi gesture.

To be fair it's the same here. Brexit, anyone?

Yet. Just wait until we get closer to the next general election. Musk is already bankrolling Reform.

Muskrat has already decided that Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (aka "Tommy Robinson") is more to his taste. Muskrat will learn from the German election that the checks and balances in most European countries are a bit stronger, so even if AfD get 45% of the vote they won't be joining a government. Romania's courts have suspended voting following suspected Russian interference. In the UK there are much stronger rules about campaign funding and messaging so the ability to buy an election is much diminished compared with the US.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 21/02/2025 19:57

@DdraigGoch does Muskrat not understand how UK politics work?
Stephen Yaxley-Lennon vs Andrew Tate without a party behind them? Or is he maneuvering towards a new monarch?

Serpentstooth · 21/02/2025 22:35

If Musk cant buy Reform, he'll buy the Tories. Plenty of the rump that's left of Tory Party will line up for it. Hands out, chaps, Elon's coming.

This looks plausible. Have you seen the latest with Liz Truss???

As to buying a party and political donations - there's no need for this here. It's enough to have some bot farms sitting elsewhere and doing the job

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 22/02/2025 00:22

My concern is once he croaks and it cannot be far off we're left with Musk and his lunacy with their feet left under the table.

Not to mention the idiot Vance

Vance isn't an idiot though. Or rather, he is, but he's also smart and nasty.
