I was out earlier. I was about to put some rubbish in the public bin but there I noticed it was filled to the brim with dog poo bags. I have noticed now days there seems to be dogs mess every where. It seems there are more dogs about since covid. I am curious if this can pose health risk for public.

I wouldn't begrudge anyone emotional support, but why can't they get it from their fellow human beings?

Not everyone has fellow human beings....like the bereaved. Pets do an important job with our children teaching them kindness, caring and preparing them for the loss of loved ones. They tend to be a lot more faithful than many parents that walk away.

My issue with dogs is breeders - there are far too many dogs in shelters that can't find homes. But people are quick to go and buy a dog from a breeder.

Maybe if shelters weren't so strict then more people would adopt, plus though there is a problem of not knowing the history of a dog when you adopt and there aren't enough puppies anyway

I love dogs and would love to have one when I retire. But I am concerned about the carbon footprint of the high numbers. Also find it ridiculous theres a huge industry so they are super groomed and pampered - seems an absolute waste of employment in a society where we can’t look after old and sick people properly!

Hate the culture of menacing looking dogs too. it was on the news about xl bullies costing a fortune for police to keep them. Just put them down fgs!

Wait, waste of employment? The people working in dog grooming are not taking people away from the care sector. And shampooing and grooming a dog is vastly different to caring for someone who has dementia.
You are comparing apples and oranges!

I live in a pretty town that attracts walkers and their dogs. Nothing wrong with that per se, it's just the sheer volume of dogs the town is having to deal with. Dogs in cafes and food shops, barking and trying to scrap with each other, jumping up at kids with ice creams, tripping people with leads that are too long etc. it's impossible to walk on the pavements without having to dodge out of the way or step into the road to avoid tripping over a lead or have a dog jump up. It's extremely tiresome.

You could easily swap dogs for kids in what you've written

This.
And I find it offensive when someone says that dog owners must be lacking in people skills. Some of us do, due to things like ASD. My dog is my lifeline, and she does not judge me, unlike people.

Zippidydoodah · 01/02/2025 23:35

Too many fucking dogs. Everywhere I look and everyone I know has a dog.

CindereIIa · 01/02/2025 21:27

Humans are also animals.

It should be illegal to permit dogs to piss and shit everywhere except your own garden. Absolutely disgusting. If we "know better" for ourselves, we should know better about dogs, and stop thinking it's ok to let them crap on our pavements.

Oh FFS you really do live in fairy tail land if you think we can control animal urination

Whydoyoucarewhatido · 01/02/2025 23:36

I have more than my fair share of dogs (plus the share of all the moaning people on here who hate them 🤣🤣) I have done for decades. For me? The more the merrier and I’ve never met a dog I don’t like. But, I don’t generally take them to pubs or restaurants or anywhere they can be annoying. We walk far away from other people and by going very early morning we often don’t see anyone at all. But I have definitely noticed that the poo bins are not being emptied anywhere near often enough, which is annoying considering the amount of council tax I pay.

All the meat resources we have to find for cats and dogs. Such a waste when we can't even feed our own people.

Humans should eat less meat anyway. And that tin of Butchers Tripe in my dog's cupboard is not denying a person from food anywhere.

DollydaydreamTheThird · 01/02/2025 23:44

I find it disgusting that we let dogs piss wherever they like but it's frowned upon for us(rightly so). The amount of shit everywhere is truly rank. My biggest annoyance is how dog owners think it's their dog's right to be off the lead in parks. The amount of times dogs have jumped up on me and me kids and you don't even get an apology for their poor control and dog's bad behaviour. It's like this blind view that everyone likes dogs and they really don't. My youngest is now terrified because of some bad owners.

Most dog and cat food is made from "derivatives" (you can check this for yourself by looking at the ingredients listed on the label next time you're at the supermarket). The derivatives are made from the bits that humans tend not to be very keen to eat, at least in this part of the world...Turkey gizzard, cows' udders, pigs' livers, and so on. If these derivatives weren't used in pet food, they would be going into landfill. Very few dogs and cats are dining on chicken breast and sirloin steak.

Edited

Maybe PP should look up what a beef pizzle dog treat is before they say people are starving due to dogs existing. I am not sure many people would be willing to eat it.

tellmesomethingtrue · 02/02/2025 00:48

Dog piss stinks!

I smell dog piss on my way to work, on the school run and heading to the shop. Also around the school gate. It's disgusting.

If the bins are full, it’s not upto me to take it home, it’s upto the LA to empty the bins. My council keep forgetting their duty to do this and so our local park is now rat infested.

Why do you object to taking it home?

Whydoyoucarewhatido · 02/02/2025 06:50

EmeraldRoulette · 02/02/2025 00:48

Why do you object to taking it home?

A lot of people drive their dogs to suitable walking places, me included. And driving home with a car full of little bags of shit isn’t very nice? Nor should it be necessary, that is what poo bins are for.

StarDolphins · 02/02/2025 08:25

EmeraldRoulette · 02/02/2025 00:48

Why do you object to taking it home?

Because I have loads of stuff to carry already and I walk past 4 bins! That’s what they’re there for!

Viviennemary · 02/02/2025 08:27

Yes. Can't stand dogs. They are a menace.

JessiesJ99 · 02/02/2025 08:38

The British certainly love their dogs 🐕 😂

Stormwhatnow · 02/02/2025 08:58

There's certainly too many badly bred dogs with severe health and behaviour problems. Ask any vet.
But stupid people keep buying dogs from Dodgy sources and way too many are buying dogs for how they look rather than thinking about whether they have suitable accomodation/lifestyle for that dog, or any understanding of the breed. A great many absolutely cannot afford the dogs they have and then abuse veterinary staff because they fucked up taking on a pet they can't afford.
And an increasing number of owners seem to have no clue about what a dog needs to be happy and healthy, many can't be bothered to do even basic obedience training.
I gave my notice after 30 years in the profession recently as I am so done dealing with badly behaved dogs and their badly behaved owners. Pet ownership has changed dramatically in the last 10 years and definitely not for the better.

Oh come on. Think of how many people that tin of tripe could have fed. Shame on you 😂

FFS! As if humans would have been eating the mechanically reclaimed meat added to dog food!

PickleBranst · 02/02/2025 09:39

Yes, covid caused so many extra dogs to be bought/bred. It will reduce gradually I guess once those dogs pass on...

Nannyfannybanny · 02/02/2025 10:01

I have 2 nice polite (yes reactive) trained border collies.. one only ever goes to the toilet in our garden. You can take her out for 2/3 hours, I always carry water for them it's home and straight in the garden for a pee or poo..I pick up, I do it in forests and places it can't be seen. They have monthly flea and 6 monthly worming treatments, their teeth cleaned at home and very occasionally under a GA at the vets..I suspect the owners who can't be bothered to pick up after their dogs, would be the type not to bother worming them..I tried rescuing, have had dogs since I was 13 ,my 200 ft garden,in a village, farm land 2 roads away,5 ft fencing, retired home all day, wasn't enough! Most rescues didn't even bother to reply. I love cats,DH doesn't,we get a lot of catpoo, damage to our garden. Front gardens have to be open plan,at least once a week, there is dog poo on our drive or borders.
