I do 5 mins. But I have a little gadget that changes colour. So it's been a few years since I did it without!

ApolloandDaphne · 01/02/2025 12:26

I put a fridge cold egg into boiling water for 6 minutes and it seems to work. The whole 3 minutes for a boiled egg must be a different method because experience tells me that leads to a raw horrible mess of an egg.

DeedlessIndeed · 01/02/2025 12:26

6 minutes!

valerieee · 01/02/2025 12:26

I boil the kettle then put the water in a pan with the heat on, splash of vinegar and lower the eggs in slowly on a spoon, so they don't crack. Then set a timer for 6-7 mins and they come out dippy

SantaToSSD · 01/02/2025 12:27

5 mins straight into boiling water. That's a large egg from the fridge.

HoraceCope · 01/02/2025 12:27

put room temperature egg in cold water,
bring to the boil
simmer for 3 and a half minutes
rinse under cold tap afterwards

I do 3 minutes but I put the egg into cold water and bring it to the boil in the water. Once boiling rapidly it’s three minutes.

fluffyblanky · 01/02/2025 12:28

Ok.. so I am going with the water boiling and 6 mins once the eggs are put in. Do I keep it boiling or simmering?

In the airfryer, 7 minutes at 170 😁

Talipesmum · 01/02/2025 12:28

6 minutes always comes out way too hard for me. We usually have medium eggs and they aren’t kept in the fridge. Put an extra one in and check it after 3 minutes. They keep cooking a bit after you fish them out. I’d go more for 3 mins.

fluffyblanky · 01/02/2025 12:28

Air fryer?!! I might try that at the same time !

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 01/02/2025 12:29

5 minutes simmering

Simmering. No need to bash it about. Unless they’re v large 6 mins might be too long.

CatsMagic · 01/02/2025 12:30

To cook a Soft boiled egg put room temp egg in a pan of cold water, bring to rolling boil then simmer for 3 mins.

Not relevant I know -but “dippy” egg gives me the same rage as “picky bits” - just stop it !

fluffyblanky · 01/02/2025 12:30

Ok five mins simmering

fluffyblanky · 01/02/2025 12:31

Also chucked a couple in the air fryer. I will report back what went best !

Not literally chucked Grin

Let us know how it goes!

Egg into boiling my water.

Bread in toaster. Toast, butter and cut up toast. Seems to be exactly the right amount of time to cook the egg.

Daria32 · 01/02/2025 12:35

4 mins exactly from when water starts to boil properly!

fluffyblanky · 01/02/2025 12:43

I can't report back that both 5 mins simmering and 6.5 mins in the air fryer worked very well!!

Delia’s method is foolproof.

Room temperature egg in a rolling boil for one minute. Removed from the heat and cover. Leave for 6 minutes and it’s perfect.

Removing it from the boil prevents the egg cracking while it’s jiggling about in the pan.
