I couldn’t see another thread on this but if there is, let me know.

AIBU to be absolutely outraged about the report on the liberation of Auschwitz of GMB without one mention of the fact they were Jewish people who were killed?

https://x.com/antisemitism/status/1883921202416345358

What the hell is going on in this country where we can’t even speak of the victims of the greatest atrocity ever taken place in this world?

Jews they were Jews.

OP, you are aware that while the majority of those held and killed there were jewish, There were a number of other religions and ethnicities suffered the same fate. I'd suggest the reporter was correct in saying 'people', so as not to offend one group by leaving them out.

They left out Jews and listed other victims. One might suggest that it's quite important to mention the Jews on Holocaust Memorial Day

it could be worded accurately ie 6 million Jews along with many black, Polish and Roma people, disabled and homosexual people and those considered enemies of the state.

I didn't see the report but according to the link op gave they mentioned Poles, Gays, Disabled. So still a large number of other groups not mentioned.

God forbid we offend anyone. But as the MAJORITY were Jewish maybe a little mention might have been nice, no?

How many people do you think are unaware of the jews in auschwitz? Our children still learn of it during their education. Sorry but this comes across as a bit faux outrage attention seeking. Only my opinion you understand.

Ahhh so because everyone is aware of the MURDER of Jews at Auschwitz, we don’t have to mention them anymore. I see.

Yeah I’m an attention seeker, sorry couldn’t help myself.

When there are those who would like to deny that the Holocaust happened at all, or was not grossly exaggerated, I think that it is incredibly foolish to think that it goes without saying that the Nazis sought the industrial extermination of Jews as the Final Solution to the Jewish Question.

It needs to be said. Very much needs to be said.

StrikeForever · 28/01/2025 00:12

TheRewritingOfHistoryBegins · 27/01/2025 22:13

Anyone voting YABU want to tell me why?

Because the victims were not all Jews. What happened to them at the hands of the Nazi was awful, but the same was done to the Disabled, people who opposed the Nazi regimen, Roma People, Poles, Serbs, Jehovahs Witnesses, Freemasons, Homosexuals and several other groups. In most reports on the Holocaust, only Jews are mentioned.

Also you would be well advised to research what the day does actually commemorate. It is not just a jewish remembrance, and that comes from the holocaust society.

And as I say, the facts of what happened are well told in schools. I believe schools still take children to there to reflect.

So what? That doesn't make it ok to omit it from a news report does it?

It means the ommision is unlikely to have any effect on peoples knowledge.

You know very well what I meant. A national broadcaster not saying the word Jew when talking about ‘people’ who died Auschwitz, hardly being open and honest is it? So tell me why they omitted it?

Who liberated Auschwitz? The people not invited to the ceremony today that's who.

It is so utterly disgraceful that history is being completely rewritten and the people involved erased from the story.

Yeah I’m okay with Putin not being invited.

Let’s not reward the leader of the country who liberated the camp when he has gone to war and invaded a sovereign country and basically is a dictator (actions and political duration in power).

How would that work? Good job then but you seriously suck now?

History isn’t being rewritten. We know it was Russia, we just don’t want Putin there.

Why bring Muslims into it? Why try and turn these two religions against each other? Why is that your first thought?

All reports today on other news channel and the speeches themselves mentioned Jews, Roma, disabled and other religions. Also the religious leaders from other religions showing solidarity by reciting the same passage (sorry forgot which one) and the acknowledgement that it affected all different people.
