To think that wolf whistling wasn't such a bad thing?

NovemberMorn · 26/01/2025 13:41

Joanna Lumley has just given an interview in which she says..."I never minded wolf whistling, I always thought it was tremendous".

She also said... "I think we were a little bit tougher then. Somebody put their hand on your leg, you didn’t feel affronted and report it. You’d give them a slap.”

Do you think she is right?

I'll ask again, do you honestly think she meant children , nothing to do with using the term girls, do you think she meant children?

I literally just answered you. Of course she meant children. Because girls are children. What do you call female children if you don't call them girls?

Ah, so I'm right and you have no argument. Good to know 😘

Her trying to wiggle out of what she said once I had quoted her was not an explanation.

Girls are children. End.

Sorry, can't be bothered because you twist everything to fit your own agenda anyway and I'm joining Op n exiting the thread. You find the myriad of posts denigrating women who are being run down because of their opinions if you want to reread them. Oh, and stop saying men are making "weird noises". Whistling and shouting "Hello, Love" etc is just that - whistling and shouting! Enjoy the rest of the thread.

Ah, so you cannot quote anything because you made it up and are leaving in high dudgeon because now you're embarrassed at being called out.

If you want to continue enjoying having strange men make weird noises at you, all good. You do you.

Fair enough. Bye :)

Tootsiecat · 29/01/2025 14:45

How dare you, Saphire.

You are so pathetic. I almost anticipated your response word for word. The responses are there but we all know you're both a liar and you twist words. You are making yourself sound ridiculous, don't be an idiot, the responses are there in black and white. I don't "make things up", I'm not embarrassed because I've done nothing wrong. You meanwhile, ought to be extremely embarrassed for your lies. Don't waste your time replying because this time, I really am leaving.

I'm leaving too, not because as she said we don't have anything to say but to twist the words to make it sound like the person meant children is so vile. I can never look at her username again, and if there was an option to report her just for being vile and disgusting I would in a heartbeat.

Calm down love, no need to get so distressed over facts being quoted.

Obviously, if I had reported you your bizarre ranting posts would have been deleted. But I didn't because I found it quite funny :)

Just pretend I am a strange man in the street making weird noises at you. You can feel flattered and walk off with a smile.

I just reported her for twisting someone's words into something obscene and disgusting, hoping she will get a ban.

Hahahahah! Brilliant. Reported for directly quoting someone and refusing to pretend that children and women who hate street harassment were ever weak.

Thanks heaps for the giggles, I needed them after reading all the bizarre ranting by people who enjoy strange men making weird noises at them in the street.

Just pretend I shouted some street harassment at you, and walk away smiling feeling good about yourself😅😂😂

But yet you pretend you're full of sympathy for women but then go on to say you find it all so funny and getting great fun with people trying to explain something to you. You're fooling noone, you're just hear to wind people up and cause trouble. Don't know how mumsnet works but hopefully you'll either be banned or your disgusting posts deleted.

This is genuinely funny. Rants abusive rubbish at a stranger ignoring facts that have been directly quoted, then demands sympathy because you personally are being laughed at.

How do you write a wolf whistle I wonder, let's go with whee whooo, well done you, off you pop then, weren't you leaving?
😂😄😅

whathaveiforgotten · 29/01/2025 15:06

@NovemberMorn

No mention of CHILDREN, but by all means read through every post I have made to double check.

Here you go:

"As has been said...women and girls handled themselves back then."

Girls are children. So you absolutely did mention them in that context.

whathaveiforgotten · 29/01/2025 15:08

Interesting how the posters who claim women (and girls) were tougher in times gone by and are too over sensitive now are seemingly so sensitive themselves on this thread, isn't it?

whathaveiforgotten · 29/01/2025 15:15

@fairycakes1234

OP's post saying "As has been said...women and girls handled themselves back then" was literally in direct response to a story about 14 year old children being wolf whistled

Here's a screenshot.

You still don't think her comment about 'girls' was about children? It's in direct response to a post about 14 year old girls...

I'm sure you'll suddenly say you're leaving the thread because you were wrong but it would be refreshing for you to acknowledge you made a mistake.

To think that wolf whistling wasn't such a bad thing?

Well pointed out!

Although I am not sure it will be a knowledged.

ElsaGreen · 29/01/2025 15:22

I think she has no idea.

Few modern women would feel safe giving a man 'a slap'...we know we will likely get a jawbreaking punch (or worse) in return.

I actually think that men feel more entitled to hit women than in the past.

PerambulationFrustration · 29/01/2025 15:22

I used to get wolf whistled at 16 and I felt so embarrassed and anxious. It was often followed by some verbal harassment.
I've also had lots of harassment out in public and at work.
Im pretty tough and resilient and always have been but when you're young, it's not easy. Especially if it's men at work.
I'm glad it's not acceptable. I'd hate my Dd , or any young woman, to have to go through all that.

fairycakes1234 · 29/01/2025 15:25

Well if I was sticking up for her, ie the OP I would definately agree with you and happy to, but it was Novembermon I was sticking up for, read back on the posts😘

Nope, stated simple black and white facts. No idea why that has triggered you so badly, but do feel free to leave as you have nothing to add :)

And she did so directly in response to someone talking about a 14 year old child being street harassed.

Hopefully you'll apologise to the poster you accused of twisting words.
