As I said, they tube fed Brady. They might have had to get a court order to do it, but they did.

AnnaMagnani · 23/01/2025 13:06

Food refusal is a common way to try and get things that you want in prison. I've also seen it as a way to try to avoid going to court.

However you need to do it for a lot longer than 10 days for anyone to think you are serious.

No, you can't be force fed - how would that even work in reality - if you have mental capacity.

MaryWhitehouseExperienced · 23/01/2025 13:06

I really don't want to read about this young madman. I want to read about the children and their families, and their recovering community.

Lentilweaver · 23/01/2025 13:08

Why is it that mentally ill women dont usually attack others? Just men?

I read the proceedings and they are just horrific. This man should never see the light of day.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 23/01/2025 13:09

PassingStranger · 23/01/2025 13:03

Would you like to be the one looking after him everyday?

Yes I most definitely would. I'd probably make sure my back is regularly turned so other inmates could have the odd "chat" with him of course...

They do sometimes, but it's often their own family rather than strangers.

NasiDagang · 23/01/2025 13:09

I don't see why the tax payers should fund this piece of shit!

Everything about this case is horrendous, not least the fact that austerity meant that mental health services have been decimated. Imagine if he had actually been treated (and if necessary detained) before he became the man on the news.

The sad truth is this could have been prevented but the swing towards 'care' in the community has gone way too far. Leaving a very mentally ill young man in his bedroom on the internet for years doesn't count as 'care' by any stretch. The law needs to change in so many ways. There are so many young men like this in Britain and they are ticking time bombs.

Agreed. It’s a tragedy all round.

What gets me is that his obsession with violence was RIGHT FUCKING THERE, and it wasn't enough for people to act. His parents could have done something, but no. Now three girls are dead.

His father is a black belt in karate for god's sake. Why on earth he didnt put his foot down and do something to stop his son is beyond me, and no I don't mean kick the shit out of him.

What the heck do you think his father could have done? He had been known to Prevent and mental health services pretty much all his life. There is no help for people like this and this sort of crime will happen again and again until we have proper fit for purposes mental health services.

AndareVeloce · 23/01/2025 13:11

It's too bad we live in a country that cares about criminals' human rights. How much I'd love for us to have a hell hole prison in this country for the absolute worst offenders to be sent to, like this POS.

Squalid conditions, torture, daily beatings, I don't care. It would be no less than he'd deserve to endure for the rest of his pathetic life.

What a ridiculous thing to hope for. You must have enjoyed reading about the prison in Syria.

Wordau · 23/01/2025 13:12

He didn't have to come to court for his sentencing, I wonder if he realised that before he came. I don't know why he did tbh.

His crimes are utterly horrific but the evidence things were not right was there in spades. Reminds me of that guy who shot loads of people including a 3yo in Plymouth, not long after beating the shit out of two teens and having to be persuaded by his mum not to go back and shoot them.

Both autistic and isolated with an obsession with violence played out online. Both known to the police and other services.

It feels like society doesn't know how to deal with these people and until we figure it out it will keep happening.

Mishmashs · 23/01/2025 13:12

As to how the killer knew about the dance class, the prosecutor said it was advertised on LinkedIn on 7 July. So he may have seen it advertised on there.

miraxxx · 23/01/2025 13:12

Galatine · 23/01/2025 12:31

Even hardened criminals will have little sympathy for someone like him. Let’s hope he lives a very long time and has to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder.

I suspect he will have a short lifespan. No loss to the world.

OnlyTheBravest · 23/01/2025 13:12

@Lentilweaver Mentally ill women usually attack their families. Targeting their children.

The travesty is that mental health services remain decimated. Care in the community has spectacularly failed. We are seeing the consequences of the closure of the mental health facilities and the special schools that could have provided early intervention.

You’re summing up why the extreme right has gained so much speed in America. What a stupid thing to wish for.

GirlOfThe70s · 23/01/2025 12:45

I was wondering how the targetting of the dance school event came about? He got in a taxi to go there, armed with the knives - how did he know the school existed and that there would be little girls there that precise morning?

It was advertised - the place, the times and the age/year groups who could attend - it was sold out. So he knew they were all young children!

His father stopped him from going to his old school (and presumably carrying out a similar attack on pupils there) just a week or so before I believe, by begging the cab driver not to take him. This time presumably his father was not at home or didn't see the cab.

It's only stupid if you care more about the perpetrators than the victims of the crime.

From everything I've read his parents tried really hard to contain him and get him the help he so clearly needed.

The thing about human rights is that they have to apply to all humans. Even the ones you don't like.

Whiteskies · 23/01/2025 13:17

He is not mad though. He had capacity and rejoiced when the specific plans he made worked. He has grown up in the UK and he is used to being indulged about his behavior. He was reported to Prevent three times. He was permanently excluded from one school and refused to attend the next school. He was completely aware of his rights. It will be a big shock to him that our society refuses to indulge his behaviour any more.
His next trick will be to claim that because Prevent did not step in and help him, they allowed him to behave in a violent way. Therefore, he will claim that the blame does not lie with him but with others.
He is already refusing to listen and to acknowledge what he did.

wonderblocks · 23/01/2025 13:17

I've just read the timeline of court and the details of what he actually did. The kids were making bracelets at the time. I've cried. Fucking heartbreaking, those little children and their families, and all the emergency services, everyone involved. I hope he gets beaten everyday for the rest of his pathetic life.
