Should she replace it? SHE RETURNED IT!

Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

Rat!

Tortielady · 22/01/2025 20:28

I wonder if she's had papers served yet? If not, her turning up with your AirWrap is an impressive coincidence.

Well done on getting it back. Digging your heels in and refusing to put up with nonsense from CFs can produce results. But it might not hurt to get your AirWrap checked out at a Dyson service centre before you withdraw the case against Bridie Tea-Leaf. If it needs work or there are problems with any of its attachments, remedial work and replacements should be claimable if the court deems BTL liable.

honeylulu · 22/01/2025 20:29

The thieving cunt!!! She just wanted to keep it and lied and lied and lied.

I'm glad you got it back but there's only one person who "took the shine" off her wedding and guess who that is?

Langarg · 22/01/2025 20:29

Greyish2025 · 22/01/2025 20:24

I presume the friendship is completely over then? is it likely that you will bump into her at events / walking down the street?

Yes I think so! I don’t need friends like her in my life and it’s been quite refreshing not having to hear about the latest dramas in her life while she’s been ghosting me. I don’t think I realised how much of a negative influence she could be until this if I’m honest.

We do have mutual friends who I haven’t told about this. We only all meet up once or twice a year. I’m not too sure how to navigate this. I don’t think I’m going to tell our mutual friends because I can’t be bothered with any drama

I hope you pass her in the street someday so you can toss your hair at her! Until then block and forget.

dawngreen · 22/01/2025 20:29

Well you learned a life lesson. Never lend decent stuff to any one!

mumedu · 22/01/2025 20:30

Wow! What an update! It's shocking that she had it all along, with the intention of keeping it /lying. OP, good for you for taking the next steps, e.g. small clains court. Let this be a learning point for people to stand up for themselves and stop being 'nice'.

JandamiHash · 22/01/2025 20:30

OMG OP I’ve been thinking about you! So happy she returned it! But angry for you that she stole it in the first place.

I love it when we find out the ending to a story on MN

Cheepcheepcheep · 22/01/2025 20:31

No fucking way! This is the update of the decade haha

You are dignified OP.

coffeeAndasandwich · 22/01/2025 20:31

we told you that she had it
now you would be horrified that you know now, what " friend " this person was

mumedu · 22/01/2025 20:33

User09678 · 22/01/2025 20:22

I thought she said hotel had lost it?

Why do you think she returned it?

No, I think she said the hotel people may have stolen it.

RoastDinnerSmellsNice · 22/01/2025 20:33

So did you get to the stage where she may have received contact from the small claims court OP? If not, I wonder what made her bring it back after all this time??

Ilovethewild · 22/01/2025 20:33

Well done op for holding your boundaries and truth.

its not easy to start small claim against someone you know, but you did and it worked.

you are right you dont need this person in your life

thank you for updating us 🌸

RockOrAHardplace · 22/01/2025 20:34

OP, you have the patience of a saint but I'm hoping you don't have the matching forgiving nature!

I'll acknowledge that it may have been someone else in her family who took it and lied to her but to just sneak back like that, is not acceptable.

Don't acknowledge you have received it, she left it on the doorstep without messaging you so anyone could have taken it. Then send her a follow up legal letter and see what she says because to explain she left it on the doorstep, she would need to explain where it came from!!!

She doesn't deserve your friendship.

coffeeAndasandwich · 22/01/2025 20:34

ThinWomansBrain · 22/01/2025 20:07

Print out all the threads and mail them to her😂
Just in case she's not on mn

people like her are definitely on mnet

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/01/2025 20:34

Flip me! The brazen cheek! What a fucking Liberty 🤣

Polecat07 · 22/01/2025 20:35

I thought it was in a dark blue box, wasn't an excuse made about not seeing it left behind against a dark blue carpet?

Did you have your original serial number just written down somewhere?

Andovir · 22/01/2025 20:35

I literally thought about your old thread today and wondered what on earth had happened in the end!

We all knew she'd nicked it, I guess. I'm glad you sent the letter before action, OP. I hope you have nothing to do with her going forward. She's an absolute horror!

Thepossibility · 22/01/2025 20:35

I can't believe she had just decided to gift your expensive personal item to herself for her wedding all along. I'd love to know if that was her plan from the start? Did she only get married so she could steal your hair styler? Has she gifted other people's items to herself also? How deep does this go? Was she planning on selling it!? Does her DH also steal things? WAS THERE EVER A WEDDING? I'm happy for you OP but I'd love a chat with this ex-friend of yours.

dickdarstardlymuttley · 22/01/2025 20:36

I love a happy ending! So delighted you provided an update 💥 Block the thief and move on xxx

Langarg · 22/01/2025 20:36

mumedu · 22/01/2025 20:31

You are dignified OP.

I’m not sure I’d be quite so dignified if it wasn’t for MN. Being able to use these threads as my sounding board has definitely helped me keep it to myself in real life 🤣.

In real life I’ve only told my own sister about this and she had read the threads. She said she thought my hair looked suspiciously shit over Christmas and new year 🤣🤣

OP posts:
FoxtonFoxton · 22/01/2025 20:38

So basically, she had pinched it (or the sister had) and they were hoping you'd just give in when they said it was stolen by the hotel/broken. How she had the front to drop it off on the doorstep is beyond me. Super embarrassing being busted as a massive liar and thief. I'd bet any money that she quickly gets in first telling your mutual friends how badly you've made her feel and ruined her wedding memories (omitting the fact she's a thief obviously).

Oh my god!! The absolute neck on some people!! The scumbag!!

AlexisP90 · 22/01/2025 20:39

OP can I borrow the air wrap for my wedding?

Full disclosure the hotel does have blue carpets and my sister likes a wine but you'll definitely get it back.
