Should she replace it? SHE RETURNED IT!

Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

Page 40 | Should she replace it? | Mumsnet

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

I'm actually not surprised that she was just trying to steal from you. Hopefully this devious piece of work is now an ex friend. Time to block her on everything and never speak to her again. Well done for not letting her get away with her shabby behaviour. I had a feeling the small claims notification would make her panic when she realised you weren't going to let her get away with it. Sometimes with people like her just the threat of it is enough.

Haven’t read anything except the 1st post, but had to say how happy I am you have it back in one piece!

ChicLilacSeal · 22/01/2025 20:21

I'm amazed. So she had it ALL the time. No wonder she effectively refused to buy you a new one, OP. She hadn't damaged it at all, and neither had she left it in the hotel.

I'm interested to know if she received notification of the small claims case. That's the only reason I can see that she eventually returned it.

Since she snuck it onto your doorstep and there's no note, I presume there's no alternative reason or explanation for the fact that it's suddenly turned up unharmed. She really WAS trying to steal it from you, and held out until the claims case.

I hope you're not going to be friends with her again. Just reflect on how little your friendship was worth to her. 500 pounds, to be exact. What an absolute so-and-so.

I'm really glad for you that you got your item back. I doubt you'll be lending anything to anyone after this experience!

User09678 · 22/01/2025 20:22

I thought she said hotel had lost it?

Why do you think she returned it?

ChicLilacSeal · 22/01/2025 20:22

Tricho · 22/01/2025 20:21

I am gobsmacked

They really do live among us

Right?!

Langarg · 22/01/2025 20:22

Yes I agree she couldn’t face me, although I’m surprised she didn’t get her DH or someone else to drop it off. I so wish I was working from home so I could have opened the door to her 🤣.

I did send the letter before action in the hope it would prompt her to either return it or replace it. It took a lot for me to do that but I had to remind myself how much she’d disrespected our friendship. I’m not sure if I would have progressed with the small claims court if I’m honest

I hadn't seen any of the earlier threads but I'm pleased for you Op that you have your item back.

I cannot fathom the audacity of some people. She didn't even have the decency to contact you to let you know it had been returned.

You should be proud of your assertiveness which doesn't always come easy in these situations.

May your hair be forever glowing and bouncy.

Matronic6 · 22/01/2025 20:23

What a scumbag. Glad you got it back OP and you found out exactly who she is.

COPPER3 · 22/01/2025 20:23

Bloody HIGH FIVE!
That is probably an outdated response, but I am so proud of you for being strong and standing up for yourself against a nasty, narcissitic, selfish individual.
No contact now...
Massive result!

JustMyView13 · 22/01/2025 20:24

#Airwrapgate concludes!

The best part about this, is that she said YOU ruined her wedding, by simply wanting your air wrap back that she tried to pinch. This lady, she is quite something! Good luck to her Husband!

Glad you got it back, let us know if you text her. I’d leave her wondering if it was stolen & trembling over the prospect of court for at least a few more days.

I presume the friendship is completely over then? is it likely that you will bump into her at events / walking down the street?

Owly11 · 22/01/2025 20:24

There's a mistake in your post. She's your ex-friend from now on I hope!!!! What a conniving sneaky little so and so.

Right, so only the threat of court action made her give it back. What an absolute and utter filthy toe-rag. She really was determined to steal that Airwrap from you. Oooh, I'd send her a howler of an email, i really would. The friendship is over anyway, so nothing to lose. She deserves you to have a complete go at her.

That's the beauty of it though, you don't always have to go through with it and she wasn't prepared to take the chance of finding out because she knew she was guilty as hell.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 22/01/2025 20:25

I knew from the start that she'd just kept it. She was banking on you being a pushover, hence the need to create the spilled wine lie, to try to get you to go away. She wasn't expecting you to continue your pursuit of getting it back. So glad you held firm and sent the letter before action. Now, block her, and never speak to that nasty lying bitch ever again. Well done @Langarg

Pedallleur · 22/01/2025 20:25

All that boo hoo it's lost, stolen, damaged. No, she was trying it on and think of her smugly using the appliance if the matter had been forgotten like some posters believed it should have.

PickleJelly · 22/01/2025 20:25

What a twist! So pleased for you! You should be so proud of yourself!

dapsnotplimsolls · 22/01/2025 20:25

Agree completely.

If someone had genuinely lost or damaged it, they'd have got a replacement.

Aprilrosesews · 22/01/2025 20:26

I RAN when I saw the name of this thread. I’ve been waiting for this update 😂 Have you messaged her for clarification if it did have the wine spilt over it or not? I’d say to her that you want to know so you’re not using something damaged

hollyblueivy · 22/01/2025 20:26

A you send this link to Dyson and ask them to provide you with a discount code so we can all consider treating ourselves to one?!

Mayflyoff · 22/01/2025 20:26

Does it smell of wine or was that another lie?

FetchezLaVache · 22/01/2025 20:26

Jesus Christ. So she borrowed your £500 hairdryer, thought "bugger giving this back, I'll just tell Lang I left it at the hotel", pretended it had been stolen by the hotel housekeepers, then pretended her sister had broken it, then finally gave it back but only when you threatened her with court action! What a cunt!!

Iloveacurry · 22/01/2025 20:28

Wow amazing 🤩 thanks for the update. Perhaps she got it repaired or is that not possible? Or she was just lying about her sister spilling wine over it, and wanted to keep it herself?
