Should she replace it? SHE RETURNED IT!

Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

I would have just brought you a brand new one if I'd lied. She's shameless!

Enko · 22/01/2025 20:56

What an Update

lakesandplains · 22/01/2025 20:57

Amazed what an absolute liar and CFer - I'd just say I've had my airwrap since it came out, is that 6 years! And it's a great product. Dyson replaced the filter for me recently for free.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/01/2025 20:57

Wow - even my DH remembers this. Well done

Whatsitreallylike · 22/01/2025 20:57

She was a thief all along! I actually gave her the benefit of doubt in my mind…. Well done OP, great update.

CombatBarbie · 22/01/2025 20:58

So she received initial paperwork, that's why she returned it??

I'd deny all knowledge of receiving it back tbh.....

Lilactimes · 22/01/2025 20:58

Well that’s the only good news I’ve read today!!
really pleased for you @Langarg !

lizzyBennet08 · 22/01/2025 21:00

I know everyone said that she had planned to steal it but I honestly thought no one could be that cheeky . Im a bit depressed to be proved so wrong..
The brass neck just astounds me . Did she honestly think you were just going to let it go. ???

Ellie56 · 22/01/2025 21:00

And well done @Langarg for sending the pre-action letter.

It was really hard for you and you really really didn't want to do it, but you did it!

And not only did you get the result you wanted, but you showed your lying thieving scumbag ex-friend that you are not the push over she thought you were. Ha! Grin

goody2shooz · 22/01/2025 21:01

@Langarg I cannot understand why on earth you are still referring to her as ‘my friend’ …..?!

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 22/01/2025 21:02

I have just read OP’s other threads.
if the friends sister spilled wine on it and broke it, how was the friend able to return the air wrap in a workable condition? Unless she lied that it was broken and stole it then decided to return it?

ChicLilacSeal · 22/01/2025 21:04

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 22/01/2025 20:46

Did she definitely steal it or did the hotel find it and return it?

I think if there was a genuine reason like this, the ex-friend would have told OP and shown her all the communications. The fact that she sheepishly dropped it off while OP was at work, with no note, indicates that she is genuinely a thieving toe-rag.

CustardySergeant · 22/01/2025 21:04

ForestFox44 · 22/01/2025 20:04

she must feel such an idiot 😅

I'm hoping she feels like a criminal! What an appalling way to treat a friend.

ChicLilacSeal · 22/01/2025 21:04

And 🤬 that she dropped it on your doorstep where anyone could have stolen it! Didn't even bother to ensure it got back to you safely! Wow, she really, really begrudges you that Airwrap, doesn't she!

Mrsbloggz · 22/01/2025 21:05

I think she's only returned it because she's realised that she needs OP in her life (to dump all her emotional baggage on) more than she needs the airwrap

Of course she lied! She just wanted to keep it.

OP sent Mrs. Light-Fingers a Letter of Action about the small claims case. That's the only reason the thieving con-artist was motivated to return it.

Nellienooiloveyou · 22/01/2025 21:08

OP how did her hair look on the ring doorbell?

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 22/01/2025 21:08

Well done OP! You got it back!
And now we all know for certain she was a thieving cow bag.

That's what some of these people do - underestimate others.

AxolotlEars · 22/01/2025 21:10

I think this whole thread needs to be in 'classics'. It's the most bizarre thing I've read on Mumsnet!

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 22/01/2025 21:10

There was never any wine spilled on it - that was just part of the tissue of lies!! What a brazen thief!!

Don't message her and don't speak to her again!

What a rotten way for someone to treat a friend!

Tbird5 · 22/01/2025 21:11

I'm sure I've read your old thread on bored panda site on Facebook too 🤔🤔

TheBluntTurtle · 22/01/2025 21:11

OH. MY. GOD!
i don’t Know whether to be happy for you OP that you got it back, or really bloody angry that she had it all this time and everything she said to you was a lie!
Is it working?
I would definitely get it sent to Dyson for servicing if they do that to check that it’s safe and functioning. Ask them to look for water damage if they do.

Kingsleadhat · 22/01/2025 21:13

And that's a wrap
