Actually, two things.

  1. Put a close up of the label or a hint of fabric as the main picture, like a teaser, instead of a nice clear photo of the whole garment. I can’t be bothered to click on it to find it’s something I wouldn’t have clicked on if you’d just shown me the whole thing in the first place.
  2. Only post one picture or two really bad pictures. Just don’t bother.

Any more?

Best one I saw was a single photo of the item of clothing on a bed, neatly folded up.
No way of telling what it actually looked like.

i have found some fabulous bargains with incorrect spellings!

Yes when I sell Skechers, I always add the common misspellings Scetchers and Sketchers in the heading!

LadeOde · 23/01/2025 13:59

If something is labelled as, beautiful/stunning &..'bought on Vinted' but reselling because my aunt died xyz. Move quickly along, there's something very wrong with it.

Wintersgirl · 23/01/2025 13:59

Some sellers on Ebay wear the clothes they're selling as if they're a fashion model, it very rarely looks good tbh, also I hate it when they've worn the item to a wedding then post a picture of them wearing it at the aforementioned wedding but with everyone blurred out, usually they're standing sideways with their DH and you can't see the dress at all . Just pointless....

LadeOde · 23/01/2025 14:01

@Wintersgirl It's listed as 'Never worn', but here you are wearing it hoiked into every crevice.

Wintersgirl · 23/01/2025 14:03

Ha yes!

And there's me thinking they must be desperate for money, what if they're trying to feed a family or heat the house.

Edited

Yeah that’s what I was thinking - a bit mean!!!

I've resold before because the boots were too small. It's difficult with shoes.

Agreed!!

List it as new without tags and write "worn once" in the description.

Yes, this is my pet peeve. Listed as BNWT and then either says "only worn a couple of times" or one of the pictures is then it being worn on a night out! Makes me wonder whether people understand the concept of 'brand new' 😅🤦🏻‍♀️

JacaMae · 23/01/2025 19:26

MyUmberSeal · 23/01/2025 00:02

Totally agree. I never put measurements on my listings, and it annoys me when people ask. Likewise, it wouldn’t occur to me to ask a seller either. For a few quid I’m happy to take the chance when buying.

I've just bought a black, wool coat for my mum, for a funeral.

Sent to a few possible sellers, the one I bought (£50) was from the only seller that replied with the sleeve measurement.

I wouldn't have risked £50 otherwise.

KitchenDancefloor · 24/01/2025 00:18

Women looking like they are posing for a 90s lads mag.

Calm down Alison, I'm interested in buying your jeans not looking down your cleavage.

There seem to be a lot of these pouting, tits ahoy photos posed on stairs, which makes me think health and safety risk rather than I'd like to buy that.

It's all very male gaze oriented.

You've just confirmed my point Grin. Usually they are oddly sized things e.g listed/labelled as a size 5 shoes, but actually there is a manufacturing defect and its measuring a size 4 1/2 on one shoe or there's a dodgy buckle etc same with clothes dress is labelled a 12 but the top half is a 10.

Mnetcurious · 24/01/2025 00:44

Pictures with feet in shot🤮
Pictures that don’t show the full length all in one shot
Messy background
Blurry pictures - what’s the point?!

Mnetcurious · 24/01/2025 00:52

PlaneNoiz · 22/01/2025 18:58

Same here. Everything is like £1-£2!

What’s the point though? Your time to photograph it, list it, package it and take it to the drop off is worth more than £1 surely? Anything I wouldn’t list for under £5 goes to the charity shop as it’s not worth my time and effort.

Mnetcurious · 24/01/2025 01:01

Time40 · 23/01/2025 00:30

I'd never expect people to measure the clothes. Even the original shops don't do this, surely?

In a shop you can try things on. Buying online all you have to go on is measurements.

Yep and even ordering online from a retailer you can send back for a refund if it doesn’t fit. I’m not prepared to risk even eg £10 on a pair of jeans that might be 3 inches too short. That’s why I always ask for the inside leg measurement or length of a dress on Vinted.

latetothefisting · 24/01/2025 01:11

Time40 · 22/01/2025 22:31

Sellers who don't give measurements for items that really, really need them - which is actually most sellers. Saying a pair of jeans are size 10 or size 12 or whatever means next to nothing. I need to know the waist measurement, the rise measurement and the inside leg length. Why don't people just measure their bloody clothes? Is it really so hard?

I think this is a bit much to expect someone selling a 2nd pair of jeans for a fiver when most shops don't even bother...

mondaytosunday · 24/01/2025 01:51

No measurements for skirt length.
And I want to see the label. DD ordered a coat as described as 'fits a size 12' and when it arrived the label was 16 and it swamped her.

Q2C4 · 24/01/2025 06:59

I hate it when you buy an item of clothing listed as being in very good condition, which looks fine in the photos, but arrives having clearly not been cared for properly. For example, something which originally had a cream background but which has clearly been washed with dark colours so now looks like a dishcloth. The photos had clearly had a filter applied to hide it.

Or things that have no holes or marks so could be described as good condition, but are really old and faded having been washed 500 times and are clearly only fit for the recycling bucket.

sweetpickle2 · 24/01/2025 09:49

People asking for measurements annoys me, because I don't have a dressmakers tape measure! Yes if you were buying it new you'd be able to try it on in the shop/send it back, but you'd be paying 40 quid for the jeans in the first place- if I'm selling my old new look ones for a fiver I think you can weigh up for yourself if they'll fit and take your chances.

An annoyance about Vinted in general is how they categorise their sizes- as someone said upthread, a 14 is an XL and its hard to know sometimes how to categorise stuff you're selling. Its definitely resulted in me buying stuff that turns up a totally different size to expected before.

Q2C4 · 24/01/2025 09:55

@SharpWriter yes that is vv annoying!

Q2C4 · 24/01/2025 09:56

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know why the Vinted app gets upset if you have too many capital letters in an item heading? I was always taught at school that the first letters of words in a heading should be capitalized so this causes me some vexation!

Its definitely resulted in me buying stuff that turns up a totally different size to expected before.

I had that with a couple of my first buys.
Had searched for a size 12 jumper that I'd seen in a shop and was so pleased to find it that I snapped it up without noticing the label said "Large" not "12".
It was far too big for me.

A different sizing problem was a pair of M&S jeans that were a 10. Bought them and they felt like a 6 - could barely do them up.
Took them to a charity shop and the assistant - much cannier than I am - pointed out they were labelled "St Michael's" which apparently hasn't been used for ages.
(Does go to show that M&S sizing seems to have changed and vanity sizing is a thing)

I have a pair of jeans from M&S bought a couple of years ago. They are a size 14 but more like a 10. I think sometimes they just sew the wrong label in. Some helpful folk on Vinted point this out when the sizing is massively out. Last summer I bought an Oasis dress size 14 - it's huge and falls to the ground when I put it on, so i have had to relist it. What's the point of someone buying something when it's not going to fit? Waste of everyone's time.
