Actually, two things.

  1. Put a close up of the label or a hint of fabric as the main picture, like a teaser, instead of a nice clear photo of the whole garment. I can’t be bothered to click on it to find it’s something I wouldn’t have clicked on if you’d just shown me the whole thing in the first place.
  2. Only post one picture or two really bad pictures. Just don’t bother.

Any more?

The ‘very good condition’ is very wide ranging! Got a jumper this week, totally bobbled. I accepted it because it would have cost more to return it than the price. Seller of course didn’t show that part, straight in the charity bag.

I bought trousers, apparently ‘true to my size’, but when I tried it on, they’re 3 sizes too big. The label is xl, but they measured as a size 20. New owner gave good feedback. I think measuring is key, if the label isn’t ready obvious.

MogHog · 23/01/2025 07:21

When I'm listing 10 items a day, then yes it is a ballache to measure everything. If someone messages me answer asks me to measure it I will do but not as standard. I sell enough without to not make it worth my while

Manky feet in sandals 🤢.
Plenty of life left..will put someone on ...big NO!
Bit of bobbling...but hardly can tell.
NO! Just no .
I throw out my own clothes that have bobbled.

Buy a de-bobbler and your bobbled clothes can look like new. 😊

XL is a size 20 though.
S = 8-10
M = 12 -14
L = 16-18
XL = 20 -22
I make most of my own clothes and generally these are the sizes on dressmaking patterns.

Where do you want it to be photographed?

It's not about where it's photographed, it's the fact it's all screwed up!

Newfoundzestforlife · 23/01/2025 07:38

arcticpandas · 23/01/2025 07:10

Listed as NWT and there are none and has clearly been worn.
Listed as bundle of 3 sweats for 5£ and then when you click you see that it's actually 5£/ sweat. I hate when they waste my time like this!
Or listed as new when there are stains/holes.
Also allergic to feet/clothes placed on stained covers-dirty floors/.
And I will not by anything from someone with large tatoos/piercings showing off the garment (yes I'm prejudiced, kill me)

How do you get through life being this easily triggered? You must clutch your pearls all Summer! How miserable 😒

@MarchingToTheBand I just don't get it. Sorry, but I don't. You're prepared to photograph items, list them, describe them, interact with buyers, wrap things, post things ... you will do all that, but you won't do something that takes under a minute? I am totally baffled.

Yeah it takes seconds and really helps people. Especially lengths of dresses and trousers - this is essential IMO. I always give measurements. I don't want someone to pay money for something that then turns out to be totally unsuitable.

WishyyWashyy · 23/01/2025 07:54

No length listed on trousers and then no picture of a label. If you can be bothered to put size 12, it's not that much harder to add a Long, Short etc

I got an amazingly cheap Toast jumper that has bobbled a lot. I spent an hour with a bobble remover and it was as good-as-new! Don't throw things out just because they have bobbled!

Snowplop · 23/01/2025 07:59

People who don't thoroughly check things they've bought themselves on Vinted and found unsuitable. Then when I've received the item and discovered the damage/ inaccuracy they say something along the lines of, 'Sorry hun, I bought it on here but it didn't suit so I'm selling it straight on' as if that's an excuse for not noticing the blood stains in the crotch of jeans or the altered leg length. They're always happy to refund but it's such a faff to have to return things that only cost a fiver.

Same, I often buy bobbled jumpers from expensive brands and debobble myself. It's a bit of a faff but well worth it.

There was mention of where the photo was taken too.

Yes, it's quite wasteful to throw out clothes just because of some bobbling, which is easy to remove.

I usually also put something in the description like, "I'm 5ft7, usually wear a UK size 12 and a 32F bra. This dress comes up knee length on me and isn't tight around the bust". It really doesn't take long and the item is more likely to sell (and to someone who will be able to wear and enjoy it!)

But she was selling it as a size 14. Usually, and for sure on Vinted, xl=14. When you go to add the size, xl is always a 14 on Vinted for dress sizes/trousers, plus the advert said true to size and it's a 14.

Edit: my screenshot didn't load! Lots of pics of size 14 being advertised as an xl.

Aside, but I was asking myself 'what is a ba-llach-eh?' then realised it did in fact say ball ache. I'm going to blame it on tiredness (and maybe just having done my German lesson, where 'e' at the end is often pronounced as just that). Maybe I shouldn't be reducing caffeine after all.....🤣

I actually prefer this to get a sense of how clothes might fit. I wish there was a filter option to just see clothes being modelled.

I don't know about now but modelled photos didn't used to be allowed.
So if there's modelled photos now maybe that's not a rule anymore but most people don't realise?

Aintnobodygottime · 23/01/2025 08:13

I’m about to list on Vinted for the first time and the instructions actually suggest you include photos of the clothes being worn.

Lemonllama · 23/01/2025 08:16

When people model clothes that are clearly not their size. A size 8 modelling a size 16 dress does not give me the idea of what it will look like on. Also adults modelling kids clothes, like no I'm not going to buy that aged 6 dress as you've just gone and stretched it by modelling it.

NewdayNewstartin2025 · 23/01/2025 08:18

Although lots of things are £1 or £2 the added fees and postage make second hand items too expensive yo be bargains. Unless you get a bundle

Debinaround · 23/01/2025 08:20

I don't measure stuff but I sell things really cheap. I just find its a faff but get that some people want measurements.

This sounds made up but I swear it's true.
When I first started to sell stuff on Vinted I put on one of my husbands jackets. Only worn a few times, very good condition, £60 new so I asked for £6.

Bloke messages me asking if I will accept £4. Yes that's fine. Messages back that he would like to see the measurements of the zip from top to bottom. I work nights so was in bed but I got up, found the tape measure and measured it. Took a picture and sent it to him. Went back to bed. Phone pings again. He would like a picture of the measurement of the back of the jacket from the neck to the waistband. Gets back out of bed and takes the picture and sends it. Crawl back into my bed. Phone pings again. That's great he says, now can I send him a picture of the tape measure measuring the arm. All this for a four quid fucking jacket!

I get back up and go downstairs to take the picture when my phone pings again. Some wonderful person has just bought the jacket for the full £6. I would have loved loved loved to have seen the blokes face when he got the notification that the item was sold and he couldn't have it. It was a lovely jacket and well worth the few quid I was asking. All his piss farting around lost him it. Grin

This whole thread is so cringeworthy.

People who are shopping in the online equivalent of the charity shop rail in a “naice” town, or a car boot sale in a village, but who are expecting the online shopping experience of a Selfridges or Karen Millen.

I cannot be bothered to look up Vinted in the whole but memory tells me it’s a start up based in Lithuania, and it’s one of those “users moderate the platform” kind of places. If you see something you don’t like? Report it or scroll past.

If someone is listing something for £2 they will probably make very little effort. If someone is listing something for £150 it doesn’t mean they’ll make £150 worth of effort.

as we see in life, a lot of folk are arrogant or just “cant be bothered to make extra effort”. That’s fine.

Recently collected a parcel while out walking the dogs. Got a message within seconds from the seller asking me to confirm everything was ok asap so they could receive payment. I purposely waited until the next morning due to their bad manners.

And there's me thinking they must be desperate for money, what if they're trying to feed a family or heat the house.

Aintnobodygottime · 23/01/2025 08:27

As a buyer my only requirements are photos clear enough that I can see what I’m buying. I only spend what I can afford to waste so the stakes are low.
