The KKK is feeling pretty empowered

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 22/01/2025 17:23

This is what happens when a man like Donald Trump gets in power.

These are the people who feel empowered.

While MN celebrates the " only two genders ", people of colour in Kentucky are scared.

I've seen threads on here wishing the UK had Trump. Is this really what you want?

Is this really the type of people you want in power?

Those that voted for Trump over trans issues, what about shit like this? Or women dying from lack of abortion access? Or climate change? Or the casual revisiting of gay marriage rights?

According to GLAAD all resources referencing LGBTQ and HIV have been removed from the White House website. Gay, lesbian, no results come up in the search.

" Pages removed include WhiteHouse.gov’s equity report (no longer accessible), a fact sheet with information on expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment (no longer accessible), and information about LGBTQ Pride Month (no longer accessible). Agency page removals include Department of State’s LGBTQ rights (no longer accessible), and Department of Labor’s LGBTQ workers page (no longer accessible). "

@GrouachMacbeth I live in texas & the very same state lawmakers who made abortion illegal are the ones who have to put abortion rights on the ballot to be voted on. They have no intention of doing that because they know the majority want reasonable abortion rights and health care for women. So the minority rules.

ARealitycheck · 22/01/2025 19:40

LuckyPeonies · 22/01/2025 19:24

No, it is not. Fact: out of 245 eligible voters, 77 million voted for him. 168 million did not. Not impressive, and certainly not a landslide. Basically, tens of millions did not want to vote for either candidate.

You could consider our own last general election in exactly the same terms though. Many people didn't vote as all the choices were shit.

LuckyPeonies · 22/01/2025 19:42

BottomWibblyWob · 22/01/2025 19:27

What would you consider a landslide then? Did you think all eligible voters turned out? You clearly know nothing whatsoever about how elections are seen

A landslide victory is an election result in which the winning candidate or party achieves a decisive victory by an overwhelming margin, securing a very large majority of votes or seats far beyond the typical competitive outcome. Did not happen.

Further, as per WaPo last year:

President-elect Donald Trump and his allies have exaggerated his victory since the November election, claiming a “landslide” win and a sweeping mandate despite having prevailed relatively narrowly — assertions Trump continued to press during a pre-inauguration rally in Washington.

“We achieved the most epic political victory our country has ever seen,” Trump told supporters Sunday at Capital One Arena.

Such claims are not supported by the election results, which show a starkly divided electorate and a historically slim win by Trump. His margin of victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the national popular vote — 1.5 percentage points — is the smallest of any president who secured a popular-vote win since Richard M. Nixon in 1968.

And though Trump won the popular vote, he did not secure a majority, coming just shy with 49.9 percent of the vote, according to certified state results compiled by the Associated Press.

Trump’s margin of electoral college victory, 86 votes, was in line with historically tight races — including 2020, 2016 and 2004 — and is smaller than the winning margins of Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George H.W. Bush. Trump’s margin was nowhere close to those in historic landslide elections, such as Ronald Reagan’s in 1984 and Nixon’s in 1972, who both had electoral-college margins above 500 votes.

“What’s obvious is that he won by a very narrow margin and that there is no big mandate here,” said Alex Keyssar, a presidential scholar and history professor at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Trump and his allies have pushed the “mandate” narrative over the past two months as they have prepared for his return to the White House on Monday, including in social media attempts to influence House and Senate members.

@ARealitycheck true, but Harris would have been much less shitty.

ChessorBuckaroo · 22/01/2025 19:48

Yep. The KKK (and all white nationalists) will be loving this regime.

The KKK came about as it wanted to restore america to its white founding stock, and there is no image that encapsulates this white power foundation than this one (made up of all the slave owning tyrants, among them jefferson, and its white only rule, with the Africans labelled property, and the Natives (whose land was taken) dehumanised as "savages" in the white settler 'declaration').

That opinion will depend on which side of centre you sit politically. It's like any of us saying Kemi Badenoch would be better than Starmer. I personally think Badenoch would make a better job. But that is my opinion and not the desire of the electorate.

Trump derangement syndrome.

cariadlet · 22/01/2025 20:04

I have mixed feelings about Trump and 5 years ago, I couldn't have imagined myself ever saying that.

He's an unpleasant narcissist. His Presidency will be disastrous for the environment (withdrawal from Paris climate agreement, allowing drilling for oil in Alaska, getting rid of the Green New Deal).

Conditions for workers will probably decline as he's likely to want deregulation because he cares about the interests of the rich rather than the ordinary people who voted him into power.

And yet, when I read the Executive Order acknowledging that there are only 2 sexes, I felt really emotional. No more men in women's sports. No more men in women's prisons. No more gender ideology being pushed in schools. No more students being socially transitioned behind their parents' backs. Lesbians can kick men out of their dating sites and their clubs.

Women and children will be safer because of this.

I really hope that there's no backlash against lesbians and gay men. If there is, it will be the fault of the fucking Democrats and Trans Rights extremists who pushed things too far. They let women down. They let children down. I really hope that LGB people don't suffer in the backlash which the TRAs brought on themselves.

Gravitasdepleted · 22/01/2025 20:05

A casual revisiting of womens rights, privacy and dignity already happened under Biden. People in the US seem to have the same concerns about illegal immigrants as people in the UK too. Ignore the publics concerns at everyone's peril, because thats how these awful decisions keep getting made. I just hope Starmer is taking notice, as he was elected by default, much like Trump, a public perception that they are the lesser of two evils.

MellowTiger · 22/01/2025 20:12

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/01/2025 19:00

You are assuming that MNers are saying 'Thank god Trump won the election - he understands that there are only two sexes!' rather than 'Shit - Trump got in. Well at least he has stated that there are only two sexes, even if he is a disaster in every other way!'? The fact that lots of posters have been saying 'God - I never thought I'd agree with Trump on anything!' should have been a bit of a clue. It's merely a silver lining on a very dark cloud.

There are only two sexes - no one has ever disputed that! You’re talking about gender constructs and I can’t see that it’s a silver lining when anyone thinks we should all fit into a particular box.
There was a bloke in Germany tried that 80 years ago and it didn’t go well for a lot of people.

Naunet · 22/01/2025 20:13

Why are you angry at posters here? This is a UK website, we didn't vote for him. Not my circus.

This is scary shit. I don't get how any one envies?

But that's how he's won over America.

He attacks queers and 'illegal immigrants' , these are issues black and latino voters can nod their heads and agree with, and some voted for that. Reform do the same trick by targeting the boats when in reality its a tiny issue compared to the 100's of thousands legal immigrants.

Plus, and its a big plus, he's was always firstly a massive TV celebrity. Its the equivalent of Alan Sugar running for prime minister , with lots of 'common sense, non-pc talking' , he'd be unstoppable against Farage, Starmer or Kemi.

The populist bullshit rhetoriuc doesn't impact the majority of America that are straight and white. It will in the long run as Trump is only interested in Trump and getting richer and having more power, as are all those around him.

The KKK have always welcomed Trump and his policies, his father was rumoured to be a member.

The trans issue crosses over to born women rights, but its rather like taking a sledgehammer to an issue which was always a minority of trans activitivsts.

The far right/Alt Rigt/ Hard Right whatever the fuck they call themselves these days have always had issues that cross over, this is nothing new.

But I do agree with your point, squashing down trans rights has come with too much nazi saluting bullshit, its too high a price.

Please say it how it is. You have an issue with transgender women accessing woman’s facilities, I don’t. Genuine trans women are at a much greater risk of being the victim rather than the perpetrator.
The issue is men pretending to be trans or dressing as women to access these spaces to commit crime - and this is impossible to legislate against.
This type of thinking will ultimately undo women’s rights because the agenda is being set by misogynists like DT.

You are totally within your rights not to mind about transwomen in women's changing rooms, prisons, rape crises centres, domestic abuse shelters and sports.

But you do not get to consent on behalf of other women who do. You understand this, right?

You seem to see women as collateral damage when it comes to validating men's fantasy's that they can become women. Many will not agree with you that this is acceptable.

Yes, the Democrats - the Party of slavery, Jim Crow and the KKK - ARE rightly feeling pretty disempowered, right now.

Democrat voters are looking at the spectre of having to raise their own children, mow their own lawns and - horror of horrors - pay Americans a living wage.

pointythings · 22/01/2025 20:30

Women didn't die.

This is not true. Women have died because of the way Trump stacked the Supreme Court with conservatives, whereupon it then struck down Roe and enabled extreme conservative states to enact abortion legislation which has led to the deaths of women.

I believe there are only two sexes. I also think Trump is a hateful piece of shit who should be in jail. I don't celebrate this. I think it will further push the left towards the side of genderwooists, because a basic understanding of biology is now seen as right-wing.

Anyone who celebrates this isn't a feminist, they just know men have penises.

Agree 100%

Im seriously worried about my friend and her girlfriend in Michigan.

Were you seriously worried about your friend and her girlfriend under the previous US government, whose official stance that men are women if they say they are effectively deleted your friend and her girlfriend’s sexuality? Because if men can be women then same sex attraction is meaningless. Or is that different because reasons?

Which is entirely the fault of the Democrats refusing to codify Roe v Wade - even when they had a super majority.
You would know this if you got your information from sources that didn't refer to rapists who wear dresses as "she".
