The KKK is feeling pretty empowered

This is what happens when a man like Donald Trump gets in power.

These are the people who feel empowered.

While MN celebrates the " only two genders ", people of colour in Kentucky are scared.

I've seen threads on here wishing the UK had Trump. Is this really what you want?

Is this really the type of people you want in power?

Those that voted for Trump over trans issues, what about shit like this? Or women dying from lack of abortion access? Or climate change? Or the casual revisiting of gay marriage rights?

According to GLAAD all resources referencing LGBTQ and HIV have been removed from the White House website. Gay, lesbian, no results come up in the search.

" Pages removed include WhiteHouse.gov’s equity report (no longer accessible), a fact sheet with information on expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment (no longer accessible), and information about LGBTQ Pride Month (no longer accessible). Agency page removals include Department of State’s LGBTQ rights (no longer accessible), and Department of Labor’s LGBTQ workers page (no longer accessible). "

KKK distributes flyers in Kentucky telling immigrants to ‘leave now’

Documents, including phone number and invitation to ‘join us’, distributed same day Trump took office

I probably agree with him on the shape of the world and the colour of the sky, too. Take it up with the people who insist reality isn't real, rather than calling mostly British women who had no vote in the American election 'gross' (which makes you sound very young, and naïve).

Yep.

Two things can be true: Trump can be an awful man and also there’s only two sexes (which is clearly what he meant when he said genders).

British women have nothing to do with him being in power. Women voted for Trump. Black and brown people voted for Trump. America got what it wanted and there’s no need to sit saying isn’t it awful for them. Evidently not

Sex not gender.

Not quite sure what you mean by this? Trumps campaign is that he will only recognise 2 genders.

TheGirlattheBack · 22/01/2025 17:55

America has lots of very complex social issues that are not comparable to the UK. Trump standing up for women’s sex based rights is a good thing for their country though.

But not for their reproductive rights. How can woman think Trumpian America will be good for women?

I don’t think Trump has confused the terms sex and gender - he clearly stated his government will only recognise two genders.
There is no dispute that there is only two sexes.

There is no dispute that there is only two sexes.

But it’s the same principle - he is only recognising men and women, no other made up anything.

I would be inclined to wish for the same stance here if his concern was with the effect on women’s rights. But people like him fear anyone different to them, and I suspect that he just wants a cookie cutter population of mini Elon Musk types. It’s clear the man despises women

OneLemonDog · 22/01/2025 18:58

I think many would see Gillead as a price worth paying if it meant single-sex spaces.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/01/2025 19:00

You are assuming that MNers are saying 'Thank god Trump won the election - he understands that there are only two sexes!' rather than 'Shit - Trump got in. Well at least he has stated that there are only two sexes, even if he is a disaster in every other way!'? The fact that lots of posters have been saying 'God - I never thought I'd agree with Trump on anything!' should have been a bit of a clue. It's merely a silver lining on a very dark cloud.

Women didn’t die

You may want to google Amber Thurman

Oh cry me a river, do you really think your hyperbole helps your cause?

Mittens67 · 22/01/2025 19:01

Totally agree. As I said in the feminism board, no point celebrating safe loos when the climate is turned to shit. Let alone all the other horrors Trump is already actioning.
Any woman voting for a convicted sexual predator purely so as to ward off men in frocks is cutting off her nose to spite her face.
My mind boggles that black people and women in general voted for him at all.

The dismantling of abortion rights happened under the Democrats and because they failed to pass the necessary legalization. Both parties are to blame for where the US is now on this matter.

It was very sad that she lost her life, but she died of sepsis, and that could have happened had she had the abortion in her home state too, even if she had not had to drive to another state.

OvaHere · 22/01/2025 19:19

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 22/01/2025 17:45

That's what you got from this?

For the record Trump used the word gender.

The fact that's what you chose to focus on is gross though.

You brought it up and made it your focus just to dig at women on MN who happen to agree there are only 2 sexes.

I think most of us would agree it's a shit state of affairs that it's taken Trump of all people to say it. If Biden hadn't been such a crazy, stubborn, old fool on this issue maybe the US would have had a chance at dodging a 2nd Trump administration.

Probably not though because as many posters were fond of saying pre and post election - this issue is not important enough to anyone to change the course of elections, a very minor consideration compared to say, the economy and cost of living.

So perhaps you could decide once and for all whether (largely British female) Mumsnetters are...

a) an insignificant echo chamber that nobody in real life agrees with and has zero impact on voting intentions
or
b) so powerful we can influence the direction of the worlds foremost superpower with our very own superpower which is a dislike of penis in the women's bathroom.

GrouachMacbeth · 22/01/2025 19:21

Surely women who are in favour of abortion in the states where it is illegal can push for and remonstrate for a free vote on it? A party in favour of promoting abortion will have millions of dollars in funding to push this.

LuckyPeonies · 22/01/2025 19:24

BottomWibblyWob · 22/01/2025 18:31

In terms of elections and politics that IS an impressive margin. It’s very standard and it’s extraordinarily rare for any party to get 50% of voters in a national election. He won by 86 seats, considered by many to be a landslide doing better than he did the first time around

I didn’t really understand why facts upset people. Sometimes people vote for people you don’t like but pretending it isn’t an impressive victory doesn’t make it any less of a win.

Edited

No, it is not. Fact: out of 245 eligible voters, 77 million voted for him. 168 million did not. Not impressive, and certainly not a landslide. Basically, tens of millions did not want to vote for either candidate.

Nameychangington · 22/01/2025 19:24

What's that even supposed to mean? Your whole post just comes across as incoherent.

I've no idea how you think that a website full of mostly UK based, mostly mothers, had any bearing on the results of US election. I didn't vote for Trump, I didn't vote in the US election at all, cos I'm not American. Take it up with them.

The dismantling of abortion rights happened because Republicans are dismantling the perfectly functional laws that protected women's right to abortion in the USA.

What would you consider a landslide then? Did you think all eligible voters turned out? You clearly know nothing whatsoever about how elections are seen

TheKeatingFive · 22/01/2025 19:28

There are many / multiple problems with Trump as president.

However he is right about gender ideology and a return to reality on this issue is valuable.

CharlotteCChapel · 22/01/2025 19:30

He's also put all equality jobs in government on leave.

Im seriously worried about my friend and her girlfriend in Michigan.

This is what I thought, like some riddle. Yes there are two sexes

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 22/01/2025 19:35

I don't think the KKK were ever not empowered. They'll flex now for a while now that Trump is back in, just like racists in the UK flexed after Brexit.

But they've always been there. Racism has been sowed into the US since the first slave ships landed from Africa. It's not everyone, but it's enough. That's why Trump is back.
