That picture of the Southport killer

1000 replies

User09678 · 20/01/2025 17:11

That has been circulating today.

Remember that sweet boy that was in all the reports at the time? The one who looked about nine?

Can anyone think of any other serious criminal who has pictures of them as a child out in the press?

Reminded me of the photo of the Nottingham killer and that Moroccan asylum seeker who murdered that elderly man in Hartlepool - same crazed but also somehow blank expression.

It's the dead eyes

Biggest threat or fastest growing?

As far as I’m aware jihadist terrorists are still the largest threat but Neo Nazis/white suprematists are the fastest growing threat in the U.K.

What makes you think it was Islamic terrorism?

Being investigated by anti terrorist units does not automatically mean Islamic terrorism.

Downloading a manual from Al Quadea does not automatically mean Islamic terrorism.

Would it be easier in your mind if he was an Islamic terrorist rather than any other explanation for his motive?

GrouachMacbeth · 20/01/2025 21:19

A parent, wanting public sympathy, a defence consul or a "community leader" is, given the choice of the Accused being portrayed as a sweet innocent schoolboy, or a swivel eyed loon is going to choose the former. Likewise it's always a potential future premier league player, or aspiring singer/rapper - never a wannabe south central LA gangbanger.

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 20/01/2025 21:02

If he is a nut job, why did he plead guilty? Just saying. He has pleaded guilty to murder, so he doesn't have "diminished responsibility". Confused.

Because not all MH issues mean diminished responsibility.

Someone having a psychotic/ schizophrenic episode is different to someone who is a psychopath/sociopath who is different to someone who is manic who is different to someone suffering from side effects from drugs for their MH and so on.

bighulahoop · 20/01/2025 21:19

He bears a striking resemblance to sideshow bob.

I doubt he’ll even go to prison, it will be a mental health hotel all the way 👍

What like Broadmoor you mean? In what way do secure mental hospitals resemble hotels?

Tittat50 · 20/01/2025 21:20

Posters sayings the parents are to blame and culpable. I haven't found much yet to detail how they are responsible for this.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/01/2025 21:20

I notice the people convinced this is jihadist don’t seem to have bothered trying to prove he’s Muslim.

Presumably if he turns out not to be Muslim that’s going to be a bit inconvenient for the ‘Islamic terrorism being hidden from us’ narrative.

User09678 · 20/01/2025 21:20

HangryLikeTheHulk · 20/01/2025 21:14

So now you’re saying there is no evidence for this allegation ?

You are saying this allegation is baseless.

Same as me. It’s a crock. Made up.

Is that what you think I'm saying. OK then. I don't think anyone else is having the same difficulties as you.

Pretty sure the initial photo was from a Children in Need thing he did for the BBC.

Ha ha ha. Nothing eh ? Baseless allegations amplified by the far right. I knew it. Caught with your pants down.

Owning a book on pipework and drainage wouldn't make me a plumber.

It would make you someone who aspired to do some plumbing though.

Nope because that will be part of the "cover up". As you can see from this thread.

He won't go to prison, he is too young. He will go to a young offender's institution until he is 25.

MissyPants · 20/01/2025 21:23

SulkySeagull · 20/01/2025 17:25

I was thinking that, we were shown pics of a sweet young schoolboy in his uniform. When actually he looked like a more mental version of crusty the clown. Why were we shown those school uniform pics? Why were they trying to make us feel sympathy for him?

They did it so that he would be perceived as being more evil. Sweet boy in pic = "innocence" media do it intentionally.

Have visited both Broadmoor and Rampton - both are horrible rundown places and completely un-hotel-like

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 21:25

Doing some plumbing doesn’t make you a plumber either. I might just need the manual to help me do something.

bombastix · 20/01/2025 21:25

Anyone who thinks Broadmoor or Rampton are hotels needs their own psychiatric evaluation.

These places contain very frightening people.

I hope he goes to an institution like Broadmoor. Mental health tariffs are far more reliable in keeping people away from the public than prison sentences. I don’t think he is sane, but he hasn’t entered any kind of insanity plea from the reporting I have seen. I think he will go to prison, but I guess we’ll see.

No, that isn't true. Far right extremists are one example of radicalisation but there's no implication it's the most serious or common. Most terrorism in the UK is related to Islamic extremism. It's about 2/3 Islamic extremism as explained in this factsheet.

Everyone can review the Prevent guidance and training here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prevent-duty-training

We don't need to go off hearsay. It's unhelpful to do this, as you can see upthread people are working themselves up into a huge confused mess already.

Yes, and I think he will be kept locked up for a very long time, if not for the rest of his life.
