That picture of the Southport killer

1000 replies

User09678 · 20/01/2025 17:11

That has been circulating today.

Remember that sweet boy that was in all the reports at the time? The one who looked about nine?

Can anyone think of any other serious criminal who has pictures of them as a child out in the press?

How does owning a document you can literally buy in a British bookshop turn you into a Muslim ? You can also download it free from the US Air Force website !

How does owning Ricin make you Muslim ?

Last time that stuff was used to murder, the perpetrators were likely Soviet KGB agents. This guy must be a Soviet.

You are falsely equating “evil” with “Muslim” because of your racism.

I think it's incorrect to think there's a motive behind which pictures were "released". Before the guilty plea the press would be using any pictures they could find in the public domain. Once the guilty verdicts were given the police are able to release the images from the arrest. That's all it is.

Agree. Look at the Myra Hindley picture and Rose West one. They looked absolutely deranged. The press I think just try to get the worse photos out there.

SulkySeagull · 20/01/2025 19:30

@HollyBerryz you asked why the left would point out the mental health issues - it’s because the left want to soften the reality of what’s happened and avoid blaming race or religion.

HollyBerryz · 20/01/2025 19:31

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 19:15

@HollyBerryz I'm not sure what you think i'm offended by? i'm just stating the obvious. Why do you think so many murderers go to prison and not hospital? Do you think the whole judicial system is wrong?

People get really annoyed at the suggestion someone who commits awful crimes must have mental health issues. Why?

Well i suppose that depends which part of the judicial system you're referring too. It's certainly not perfect is it. But anyway, there's going to be those who are so severely mentally ill it could be used as a mitigation in a defence or who will more likely end up in a psychiatric prison hospital and then there's those those who are clearly mentally unwell to the point where they commit awful crimes, but are not ill enough to be able to use it as a defence or be placed in psychiatric hospital prison.

I note sky news reported 'The court was told he had no obvious evidence of mental health disorder which required hospital treatment' which indicates MH issues but not severe enough for him to have been hospitalised (or sectioned presumably?) before he committed this crime.

People cry out over such crimes, why did this happen, how did this happen, why has the system failed, what went wrong. People suggest perhaps lack of early mental health support which means those MH issues then escalate has led to it, then everyone loses their shit that anyone dares to suggest MH issues are at play 🤷‍♀️

So that first point gives you some pause for thought?

He may be an Islamic terrorist. He may not be.
I don't know - and I don't think there's enough evidence to support that conclusion yet.

YANBU, it’s disgusting that the focus at the time seemed to be on “Let’s make him out to be angelic”. And then it turns out after people had been imprisoned for “falsely” linking him to Islamic extremism, it turns it he was an Islamic extremist. Starmer is a joke, far more concerned by not upsetting people than protecting children

These "people " came to our town using grief, loss, and our fear to fuel their bigoted racist agenda.
They injured police officers, who did so much for us over the previous couple of days. They subjected our frightened children, including a survivor and her family, who lived very near to the area decimated to violence, sirens and helicopters?
Their actions caused our A&E Dept unbelievable pressure, many of the staff, who had also been on shift the previous days, having to continuously treat the rioters and injured officers.
It's mind boggling, how many people think that rioting, setting buildings on fire with people in them, attacking police and damaging property should go unpunished

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 19:31

Apart from the first point, which doesn't prove anything how do things like being obsessed with violence and taking knives into places lessen his chance of him being a terrorist engaging in Islamic extremism? That's kind of what often happens in these cases

There are obvious similarities but his motivation seems to be just the violence itself as opposed to doing it for Islam. he used the booklet to learn things like where best to stab

People on this thread that don't think this was terror related are blind. They found terrorist documents in his house alongside ricin. He was referred to prevent. I couldn't give a shit if he was white black or brown call a spade a spade and stop with the bullshit apologists. Hopefully the full truth will finally be revealed during the trial because it's been handled terribly so far and it's incredibly insulting to those little girls and their parents.

There isn't going to be a trial. He has entered a guilty plea. The next court date will be sentencing but more or less a formality to confirm that he will spend the rest of his life in Belmarsh.

crumblingschools · 20/01/2025 19:32

Someone I know used to work in counter terrorism, the majority of his work and work of his team centred around Neo Nazi organisations/supporters

soupfiend · 20/01/2025 19:32

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 19:09

@soupfiend would ankle tags, curfews be acceptable? The terror attack in Streatham was stopped so quickly as the police were watching him. Realistically we don't have the resources for that.

Yes, could be an option

Not much help if the person just acts unpredictably and goes and does the crime without warning, but its better than nothing

But what threshold would it come under to get the person subject to that, and for how long, indefinitely?

AgnesX · 20/01/2025 19:33

Trikey · 20/01/2025 17:29

I'm more concerned with who decided to have that trial today to hide it against the inauguration of Trump,
And what the Prime Minister and Home Secretary knew about this evil person, when they knew it and what they decided to tell the public.

Hardly, court diaries don't take overseas events into consideration. It's just coincidence.

Efacsen · 20/01/2025 19:34

WeCantGoOverIt · 20/01/2025 19:26

What has that got to do with this killer? He didn’t live in Southport, he lived in Lancashire.

He lived in the Lancs village of Banks about 6 miles outside Southport

PandoraSox · 20/01/2025 19:35

Starmer and Cooper really are covering something up. I mean if they weren't there would be a full public inquiry. Oh, wait...

cakeorwine · 20/01/2025 19:19

I am suggesting that there are certain ways the brain works that can increase your chances of carrying out tragic events such as this.

I am sure a psychologist would be able to give much more insight on this rather than a few posts on social media.

So you are speculating, without knowing about his diagnosis

If you suggest autism is linked to higher likelihood of crime you are likely making simplistic and reductive statements

'King and Murphy (2014) conducted an extensive review of studies investigating the relationship between autism and criminal activity. Their findings suggest that, overall, there is no compelling evidence to suggest that individuals with autism are more prone to criminal behaviour compared to those without autism.'

cakeorwine · 20/01/2025 19:35

SulkySeagull · 20/01/2025 19:30

@HollyBerryz you asked why the left would point out the mental health issues - it’s because the left want to soften the reality of what’s happened and avoid blaming race or religion.

What do you think the reality is of what happened?

It was an evil attack. I don't know what the motivation was - and I am not sure other people know what his motivation was.

What motivates a human being to stab little girls to death?
What has happened in that person's mind to get them to carry out such an evil attack?

If people want to say that he was an Islamic terrorist and that was his motivation, then what do they say when another massacre of children is carried out? If they just want to say that terrorism is always the cause, then what do they say if it's not terrorism the next time.

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 19:35

@HollyBerryz I can't explain why others get angry as I don't. I do understand the point you make that anybody that commits a horrific crime must not be well mentally but my point is that our current justice system doesn't agree with that...

lemmein · 20/01/2025 19:36

PandoraSox · 20/01/2025 18:06

If he hadn't pleaded guilty unexpectedly, the trial would have lasted for weeks. The inauguration is one day.

People really are thick, aren't they?

They are - but as least there's some balance on this thread, unlike Twitter which is full of the wildest conspiracies on this case which are mostly left unchallenged.

Because he was referred to the Prevent program THREE separate times.

And?

Why do you think a teen referred to Prevent would be relevant to the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary when each time it was determined that he did not fall under their remit as there was no link to any terror organisations or any belief in terror related ideologies?

You think every single Prevent referral that turns out to be nothing is communicated to the PM?

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 19:38

That's not true. The biggest threat volume wise is still Islamic terrorism, but perhaps Mi5 are wrong..

If he was searching US mass school shootings from age 13 then he needed serious mental health intervention. Where were CAMHS for a start? He clearly needed substantial psychiatric intervention from a young age. It's clear there were significant and repeated failings here by all involved.

CAMHS probably told him that he was on a waiting list and they would see him in the next 5-7 years. If he felt worse he could go back his GP who could refer again and they might reconsider if he was deemed to be sufficiently seriously ill (round here, suicidal means actively attempting to a point of hospitalisation - anything g less and they won't deal.)

In the meantime, walks in nature can be nice and perhaps he could try a meditation app.
