Is it really that wrong to want for your country what Trump stands for?

Anniedash · 20/01/2025 06:51

I know that there are plenty of threads on Trump at the moment, but most of them are designed to rubbish the guy. That’s been done to death in the last 10 years.

He has still won two presidential elections so perhaps it’s time to move the discussion on a bit.Let’s put aside Trump’s personality, bluster, and whether he will deliver or not, for a second.

Is it really so wrong and bad to want to go for what his core message is? Why is the far right label used so liberally and will we ever see a government in this country which can tackle this madness -

A stop to or huge reduction in illegal immigration

Putting your own country first ahead of internationalism. It’s not a novel idea and certainly not a byword for automatically wanting war. In fact Trump’s argument is that war is bad

Saying no the climate hysteria. Climate change is real but climate emergency seems to be a made up concept to simply tax people to death to re distribute taxes to government lobbyists. Why should people accept being poorer in the name of this dangerous ideology

Putting a stop to woke madness. When did it become ok for state sponsored mutilation of children? Men pretending to be women in prison and hospitals getting access to women’s spaces. People being sanctioned do not using the correct pronouns

Driving the economy forward and putting a stop to endless freebies for those who have no intention of contributing to the system and refuse to work because they are sad.

The fact that someone as eccentric as Trump has to fly the flag for common sense ideas shows you just how batshit the political discourse has become.

I know criticism of your country is hard to take for a patriot like yourself, but this is a UK forum, not a maga one

Quite the contrary: there is a lot to
criticize about my country, but I have very different thoughts on how to ‘right the ship’

So humour me. What single policy pledge will make the biggest difference to your life and how?
Since you mentioned deporting criminals, I take it this is a concern of yours

My hometown is near Springfield OH. Nobody asked if we wanted people from a radically different culture and mindset in our town. Voting Trump was a way to express my opinions on this specific matter, yes.

Well I watched an analysis from the Economist of the impact of proposed illegal immigrant expulsions, and it’s going to drive labor shortages, and increase prices of goods /services for ordinary Americans. Is this in your interest? I would say not, unless you are extremely wealthy

I think if you asked Americans whether or not we could tolerate higher prices if that meant fewer immigrants, we would absolutely take that deal. Under Biden, we had high prices and high immigration. So at least we can solve one of those issues. And some costs would go down: housing and insurance costs (in OH car insurance rates skyrocketed due to uninsured Haitians).

RingoJuice · 22/01/2025 06:30

The climate emergency is science. It’s not hysteria. You only need to look at the news to see the impact. More fires and floods for one. His plan to ‘drill baby drill’ is insanity

I totally disagree with this POV. Fossil fuels are the underpinning of modern civilization. We cannot thrive (or perhaps even survive) without them. Cheap access to fossil fuels is what allows you to develop your society and improve your living conditions.

It was another reason I voted Trump.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/01/2025 06:32

Oh, look - this must be one of first of the changes that so many posters on here are excited about! (After releasing all the Capitol criminals, of course, which happened on Day One). Now we have a prolific drug dealer and someone suspected of six murders-for-hire back in circulation.

I think I’m swinging to the side of those who think Trump back in office is a good thing. Look at what he’s already achieving, guys - I’m relieved, impressed and excited for ALL of our futures now that I’ve seen the light 🤨

(Whoever accused me of hyperbole is going to HATE this post, so I hope they’ve buckled up!)

Ross Ulbricht

Trump pardons Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht

Trump said he had called Ulbricht's mother to let her know he had granted her son a full pardon.

When Trump talked about drug gangs he didn't mean big pharma or white people.

I would love to see the research you’ve done to support this point?

I mean, just for starters OP, trying to kerp this simple, people are going to drown and burn. It's a fact. The exact locations are debatable as the countries currently experiencing extreme weather events will change with the wind. All reputable scientists agree on this.

The earth has been heating up since the industrial revolution. This is indisputable. The point is, we created this heat. We can change it.

These weather events that will kill millions of people WILL happen in your children's lifetime.

Trump doesn't "believe" in the scientific facts.

For me that's enough to want him in prison.

Never mind the misogyny, racism and homophobia!

Interesting to see that those espousing far right policies object so strongly to the term.

Weather events USED to kill hundreds of thousands of people. Nowadays that simply doesn’t happen because of good infrastructure, all of which requires fossil fuels

Did climate change force California to stop building reservoirs ten years ago (and for which funding was approved)? Did climate change force California to pull out dams to restore fish populations? Did climate change cause local government to neglect ensuring fire hydrants actually worked? Did climate change cause the Palisades reservoir to lie empty waiting for repairs? Did climate change cause the local government to ignore homeless encampments, which are obvious fire hazards?

California will always have wildfires, the local ecology actually requires periodic fires (seeds from native trees like Sequoias will literally not germinate unless the heat opens their cones/seed pods).

allyjay · 22/01/2025 07:31

Tandora · 22/01/2025 06:02

This.

40% voted YANBU??? This is terrifying.

Mumsnet has been deluged with lots of far right posters recently, if you look at their very short posting history - Trump/Musk/anti Starmer/grooming gangs etc, it's clear to see their agenda. They're not good faith actors. They're looking to sew discord and division with their bitch plop posts, and unfortunately it seems to be working. So those voting polls are artificially pumped up with these conveniently brand new posters. Still it's very concerning

It’s called shifting the Overton Window. Trump’s share of the under-30s vote in America was 46%. (Majority of young American men voted for Trump - 56%).

Older Harris voters cannot comprehend what has happened, they are akin to the pre-WW2 generation, shocked at the opinions and views of the upcoming generation, who do not share their values.

Bone dry growth and 80mph winds means fires are not containable, plus the Governor denies Trumps claims, which you have just repeated.

Bear in mind Trump also claimed drinking bleach may be a cure for Covid and Spain is one of the BRICS countries.

He also claimed that people who beat up Police Officers and wanted to kill Democratic politicians were "Hostages"

He also tried to throw an Election....but you voted for him.... speaks volumes.

Your home town just had to be Springfield didn't it? 😂🙄 i hope you now take better care of your new pet.

NestaArcheron · 22/01/2025 07:49

Women are dying because they cannot access abortion services when they are carrying a dangerous pregnancy - he has now removed a site which gave information on how to access services out of state for those that are illegal.

As a woman - I cannot fathom how you could for one second want the same for "your" country. This man is convicted of multiple felons, and a sexual predator as well as a woman hating bigot who is also trying to reverse the law on gay marriage.

Anyone who is ok with any of the above, is frankly disgusting.

I am not from Springfield but near enough, yes. And idk about pets but they were definitely taking ducks and geese from the parks.

Oh and dangerous driving by unlicensed Haitians has already taken two lives, but sure, find it funny.

At least their TPS status has been revoked so they’ll now have to leave. We don’t have a date yet for when it will expire but it’s been announced.

Itsyourwifeymacrid · 22/01/2025 08:02

My opinion of trump first time was like omg who is this guy he's a nutjob,I was scared at first when we heard he was running for president again,I mean first time he wasn't that great, but after so long IV come to like what he stands for, don't like him as a person but all what he says and hopefully do he's got balls alot of people wish they had,I wish starmer would grow a pair like trump and say no I'm not having this this is our country and be proud of it,starmer can't be proud of England at min were a laughing stock,if it ever came about we go to a physical war were screwed coz it won't be bombing from outside our country, the people we would be fighting are already here in our country,it's scary it really is this world now but trump stands for all things good at minute and nothing we can do about it either,we just have to sit back and watch,I can't wait to see what he does, starmer made our country worse within 24 hours of been priminister,he's let rapist's, murderers etc out of jail and for what???he's a nut job not trump,I'd rather have trump run our country than starmer anyday, everyone who voted labour this is on you all,you did this to our country trying to be nice and the "awww let em in there fine" approach,it should me woman and children coming here but it's not is it,it's men, always men that come across, trump has my English vote all day 😊

RingoJuice · 22/01/2025 08:03

I am pro-choice and wish these deep
red states would make a different choice, but I respect that this is their decision.

About dangerous pregnancies—this is more about physician malpractice. They’d rather protect themselves from prosecution than stand on their medical determination on nonviable
pregnancies. I hope the bereaved families sue the shit out of them as an example to others.

trying to reverse the law on gay marriage

This was not put forward on the campaign trail so I’ll take it as fake news.

This sounds like a great idea. Fingers crossed for your DH.

Because what you said

  • *Nobody asked if we wanted people from a radically different culture and mindset in our town -*

is very much how I feel about people who vote Trump and express the kinds of attitudes you have on this thread about human rights and climate change.

I consider far right extremism very dangerous for the UK (and of course the world at large).
