Is it really that wrong to want for your country what Trump stands for?

1000 replies

Anniedash · 20/01/2025 06:51

I know that there are plenty of threads on Trump at the moment, but most of them are designed to rubbish the guy. That’s been done to death in the last 10 years.

He has still won two presidential elections so perhaps it’s time to move the discussion on a bit.Let’s put aside Trump’s personality, bluster, and whether he will deliver or not, for a second.

Is it really so wrong and bad to want to go for what his core message is? Why is the far right label used so liberally and will we ever see a government in this country which can tackle this madness -

A stop to or huge reduction in illegal immigration

Putting your own country first ahead of internationalism. It’s not a novel idea and certainly not a byword for automatically wanting war. In fact Trump’s argument is that war is bad

Saying no the climate hysteria. Climate change is real but climate emergency seems to be a made up concept to simply tax people to death to re distribute taxes to government lobbyists. Why should people accept being poorer in the name of this dangerous ideology

Putting a stop to woke madness. When did it become ok for state sponsored mutilation of children? Men pretending to be women in prison and hospitals getting access to women’s spaces. People being sanctioned do not using the correct pronouns

Driving the economy forward and putting a stop to endless freebies for those who have no intention of contributing to the system and refuse to work because they are sad.

The fact that someone as eccentric as Trump has to fly the flag for common sense ideas shows you just how batshit the political discourse has become.

I disagree on your point regarding the climate, but the rest I really think we should also follow.

I'm excited to see what happens in the next four years. I can only hope we follow suit.

it's easy to be excited when you are not the one who is going to get hurt by his policies

@Mila6464
Well said. Great post of yours. How anyone can be excited about the next four years god alone knows

My extended and my DH's immediate families are American, so we'll all be affected despite us living here. My children are dual citizens.

I will not love everything, but some real good will come.

6 family members and Dr Fauci as protection from potentially politically motivated prosecutions is the equivalent to you of pardoning 1,500 actually violent criminals some of whom attacked police officers?

Can't you see the difference between pardoning a past crime and pardoning anything they might do in the future?

Let's start with the man being a proven felon, a sex pest, a man who has bankrupted companies, a man who is only not being charged with capital riots on Jan 6th cos he has won tre presidency.

A man who invited age riots, which killed people, including a police officer, and wanted his vice president hung.

His policies are for the right to get richer and not as sold for the working man. They will make them worse off

Like Brexit, all sold on lies. The man is vile, and no, i don't want someone like that running the largest economy in the world.

Neither do the majotity of Americans want it either

How dare you tell the truth sir. Alas mate this is probably the last platform where you can say what you say. I fear a storm is rising and let's face it .. everything is for sale. I opted out a long time ago and with age (as in I'm bloody old) I will hover so to speak and drink Bandol ott rose

Hagpie · 22/01/2025 02:07

But you can’t really separate the fact that he’s a rapist when he’s in charge of millions of women, can you?

RingoJuice · 22/01/2025 02:21

The whites haven't mowed their own lawns, cleaned their own houses or watched their own children in the last generation but want to hurt the workers who do this work

This is America we are talking about, not South Africa. We generally do all this shit ourselves.

DdraigGoch · 22/01/2025 02:34

Judge a man by his actions, not his words.

He promised to "drain the swamp" and yet has just signed an executive order permitting federal employees to accept bribes.

He's a criminal and a rapist who managed to get abortion overturned.

All he had to say was there are only two genders and women are ready to support him.

He's done nothing but harm women, but apparently he's looking out for us.

Some people believe any crap.

Mopsy567 · 22/01/2025 04:45

All this pro Trump nonsense on MN lately. Another site that's getting flooded by far right trying to normalise extreme ideas. Its happening time and again on social media (usually by people not even based in the country they want to influence).

I can't see any sensible person look at the US and think 'Oh yes, what the UK really needs right now is to curb women's rights, lax gun laws because it really makes kids feel safe in school, the high inequality, the climate denial, the astronomical costs of medical care, and being led by an actual misogynist and billionnaire buying his way into politics and who feed off instability and hate'.

Complete and utter madness.

Considering the amount of threads I see on here about being allowed to work from home, I don't think most would be thrilled that he signed an order forcing everyone back into the office.

And as far as health care, when women are literally dying from lack of access to abortions I can't understand anyone supporting this admitted rapist.

Not to mention one illness wiping out a families entire savings.

America has some real challenges but nobody is looking to the United Kingdom for leadership on any of those challenges. You can’t even deport literal criminals without bleeding heart judges bleating about their ‘family rights’ or some shit. EU and US were at economic parity just 20 years ago—wtf happened????

Honestly I’m ecstatic Trump won (again) and I hope it can fix some serious issues at home.

No working brain cells were used in the voting for the convicted rapist.

Well voting Trump was 1000% more in my interest than voting for Harris. So that’s why I voted the way that I did. Only total fools vote against their own interests.

AIBot · 22/01/2025 05:45

Oh bless @RingoJuice

I know criticism of your country is hard to take for a patriot like yourself, but this is a UK forum, not a maga one.

So humour me. What single policy pledge will make the biggest difference to your life and how?

Since you mentioned deporting criminals, I take it this is a concern of yours. Well I watched an analysis from the Economist of the impact of proposed illegal immigrant expulsions, and it’s going to drive labor shortages, and increase prices of goods /services for ordinary Americans. Is this in your interest? I would say not, unless you are extremely wealthy.

Opening up more places for drilling for oil. Removing women from their commands in the forces.
Pardoning the 6th January insurrectionists...

Absolutely!!
And so it starts
Racists be Racists. But now it will be OK 👍
We are fucked

That investment in TechBro love is paying off, look at all the DT support on this thread. Brainwashing. Trumps a fascist, so are his supporters, even if they don't know it yet. They sure as hell don't know what it means and will find out soon. Beyond reason.

40% voted YANBU??? This is terrifying.

You voted a literal criminal into the most powerful political office in the world.

  1. It is fair enough to want to limit illegal immigration.
  2. It is fair enough to put your own country first (as long as that doesn’t exploit or harm others).
  3. The climate emergency is science. It’s not hysteria. You only need to look at the news to see the impact. More fires and floods for one. His plan to ‘drill baby drill’ is insanity.
  4. Gender reassignment is a much more complex issue than you have described. One that needs proper informed debate rather than dramatic hyperbole.
  5. Building the economy sustainably is sensible. By freebies I imagine you mean benefits. The sign of a civilised society is how we treat the most vulnerable. Anyone of us could end up needing benefits at some point in our life. Seems to me a fair and civilised system to have benefits as we are not all given equal opportunities. It may need changing though.

I think it’s good to have sensible discussions and avoid the awful divisions that are being created. Nothing is black and white and there are always shades of grey and nuances.

Your hyperbolic language suggests to me that your main source of news is social media which means that you will only be seeing news according to your algorithm. You probably don’t trust ‘mainstream media’ but why don’t you take time just to look at the different news sites. None of us can fully understand everything about the world so we rely on others to tell us about it. If you read the Daily Mail it will likely confirm your current world view. If you read the a guardian it will challenge it. The standard of journalism is higher in one but both are biased to a greater or lesser degree. The BBC also has news that is less biased but has been accused of bias. Try world news sites too. Just for a week explore different sources of news. Do a bit of your own fact checking. Shake it up by searching for the opposite views to yours.

You might also be aware that Russia has been trying to create division and instability here by using bots to stir the social media pot. It’s working. As human beings we have far more in common than the differences we have.

Policies aside, Trump is a convicted criminal. His moral compass is wrong. His view of women is archaic and misogynistic. He is a narcissist and he’s not very bright. He is not trustworthy. He does not care about others. He lacks empathy. He was caught doing things that put the country in danger (top secret files in his loo for example). I don’t think he’s fit to govern.

It is. And I think Putin will be rubbing his hands with glee that there is all this division and hate. It’s what he wants.
