Is it really that wrong to want for your country what Trump stands for?

Anniedash · 20/01/2025 06:51

I know that there are plenty of threads on Trump at the moment, but most of them are designed to rubbish the guy. That’s been done to death in the last 10 years.

He has still won two presidential elections so perhaps it’s time to move the discussion on a bit.Let’s put aside Trump’s personality, bluster, and whether he will deliver or not, for a second.

Is it really so wrong and bad to want to go for what his core message is? Why is the far right label used so liberally and will we ever see a government in this country which can tackle this madness -

A stop to or huge reduction in illegal immigration

Putting your own country first ahead of internationalism. It’s not a novel idea and certainly not a byword for automatically wanting war. In fact Trump’s argument is that war is bad

Saying no the climate hysteria. Climate change is real but climate emergency seems to be a made up concept to simply tax people to death to re distribute taxes to government lobbyists. Why should people accept being poorer in the name of this dangerous ideology

Putting a stop to woke madness. When did it become ok for state sponsored mutilation of children? Men pretending to be women in prison and hospitals getting access to women’s spaces. People being sanctioned do not using the correct pronouns

Driving the economy forward and putting a stop to endless freebies for those who have no intention of contributing to the system and refuse to work because they are sad.

The fact that someone as eccentric as Trump has to fly the flag for common sense ideas shows you just how batshit the political discourse has become.

You lost me at "woke" but you can read what he plans to do in Project 2025. Most chilling is the replacement of thousands of federal employees with political appointments, which would be like replacing all of our civil servants with special advisors

@LalaPaloosa2024 I don’t understand why people are pro-Trump, he’s a convicted felon, a womaniser, a liar. The Donald is the first president in US history to be impeached twice, after being charged with "incitement of insurrection". But yeah, he’s the new messiah…

We’ve had 14 years of a right wing government who were running the country into the ground with their self-serving behaviours and policies. The Tories always used to be the champion of small businesses but somewhere along the way they changed.

“A leading Brexiteer [Jacob Rees Mogg] has suggested it could take 50 years to judge whether Brexit has been an economic success amid fears quitting the European Union will lead to a downturn.” We were warned but waiting 50 years to reap the benefits was deemed a fair exchange.

Labour don’t have all the answers but they inherited a country in a dismal state and are struggling to turn the economy around. No doubt the country will swing to the right again but we’re only six months in with Labour.

You’re right. The Tories did a terrible job too. I don’t even think their policies were Conservative ones - you make a good point about their behaviour changing from what the Conservative Party used to stand for. I agree they left the country in a mess for Labour.

However, under Labour we have seen tax after tax introduced. People are miserable, the economy is not doing well. It seems a bit hopeless. The farmers and pensioners are being targeted. Small businesses are suffering with increased NI and now with the new employment laws. Yet illegal immigrants are housed and fed without contribution and their hatred of western culture and people is tolerated. Look at how our government has dealt with the rape and torture of British girls. Those poor girls.

You look to other countries and see how they are prioritising and protecting their people. The contrast is stark. Look at Poland on illegal immigration. Look at the Italian Prime Minister - castration of rapists and zero tolerance for those who hate the Italian culture. Donald Trump’s rhetoric falls within this same right wing protectionist outlook. I think this is his appeal to so many people.

Who in their right mind would vote for a convicted felon? The fact that Trump got elected speaks to how many peop!e have a "screw loose". His first term was a disaster. He's gotten more insane and full of himself since then. On his first day as president he pardoned 1500 people who were in jail due to their violent actions during the insurrection. He has lined up Cabinet members who will follow his orders or be fired. All the prayers in the world won't fix this.

It’s disrespectful to dismiss over 77 million Americans as having a “screw loose”. Just because someone doesn’t share your opinion doesn’t mean you can denigrate them and suggest they are mentally unstable.

I totally agree with your comments and it's a pity we don't have a leader with balls. They've called Trump Mr ' break the rules' and Starmer is supposedly Mr. 'Follow the rules' more like Mr Softy. This country is going to the dogs big style. After the tragic events in Southport now Starmer is banging on about he recognises the threat from young men and social media etc. Well aren't the small boat people predominantly young men ? Landing on our shores with no identification but with designer trainers and mobile phones and if they haven't got one they get given one. What are they doing in their warm hotel rooms ? Who knows. How can we take this huge risk putting our society at risk. Come on wake up Starmer how much more of a wake up call do you need. ?

Isn’t it interesting that it’s all young men in the boats? No women or children on those boats. It’s almost like an army arriving.

I'm struggling to understand why it's right wing fascism to simply want your government to protect you and your family.

If you genuinely want to understand why the majority of Americans voted for someone like Trump then Jonathan Pie does a really good explanation:

Transgender Derangement Syndrome. I have never seen this degree of obsession over something which for 99% of the populace has no inpact on their life!

To be clear a majority of Americans did not vote him. He got more that any other candidate but not over 50%.

How many taxes have Labour introduced since July 2024?

Which illegal immigrants are housed and fed with contribution
And whose “hatred of our culture” is tolerated? Also how could you stop somebody hating aspects of your culture? Outlaw feelings?

Tories had previously inherited far worse from labour. A reason someone may be pro trump is his ability to influence various wars, (and possibly highly impact resolving them) kinda big stuff right? Actual real problems.

What?

Tibbytoo · 21/01/2025 22:48

I agree with some of his policies.

Be interesting to see if actions speak louder than words.

i am sick of our woke culture and would vote for someone who also thinks this way.

@MyLimeGuide Actual real problems…??! He’s going to sort out the man things and stop the wars so that’s all right then. He’s sorted out the Gulf of Mexico too. Good job, Donnie.

Meanwhile in his first term he oversaw the removal of bodily autonomy for women, but hey, no biggie. This time he’s rescinded Executive Order 14087, which was put in place to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Americans.

"To be clear a majority of Americans did not vote him. He got more that any other candidate but not over 50%."

So to clarify Trump received 50% of all votes cast which is the second highest in US history. This compares to Labour winning 33% of all votes cast in the UK 2024 election, one of the lowest in UK electoral history.

Because everybody or every rule that people dislike is now fascist or Nazi or racist.

Got a parking ticket recently then that will be because the parking attendant was racist fascist Nazi and nothing to do with you not buying a ticket.

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, more than 300,000 white people were shipped to America from England as slaves. Prisons were emptied and Urchins were swept up from London's streets to labor in the tobacco fields, where life expectancy was no more than two years. Brothels were raided to provide “breeders” for Virginia.

Why is this not able to be true? There is a lot of factual material available about British prisoners being sent to the new world as unpaid Labour. When they needed more, they outsourced to Africa.

Use your google.

@SomethingSScintillating that's a bit of a low bar isn't it? I wasn't aware to be PM you needed to be the class clown but it's ok so long as you are entertaining people. It may be Starmer is angry because he's serious person and there's a lot he's been handed over to be very angry about indeed .

These people just want an entertainer though, ‘give us a clown’. That’s why Boris Johnson was popular after all.

I wouldn't be surprised if Boris, Priti or Suella became the new leader of the Reform party. Whatever happens big change is heading to the UK.

Trump derangement syndrome is real.
At least Trump won’t start any wars and he also knows what a woman is.
Win win!

He certainly knows what a woman is. It's someone whose p*ssy he can grab! He's not anti-trans because he wants to preserve women's safe spaces; he's anti-trans because he (or the people around him) want to force people back into strict gender roles.

As regards starting wars, well, I certainly hope he doesn't; but his belligerent comments about Greenland, Panama and Canada don't inspire confidence.

Mila6464 · 21/01/2025 23:31

Bollindger · 21/01/2025 21:52

Trump won because there is so much going wrong in the USA that more people were willing to trust him than what they already had.
Can you actually understand just how bad things had to be for that to be the answer.
So can we talk about that...!

America is a deeply racist country. when offered the chance to vote for a sensible, non white woman, they chose the convicted, white felon. He appealed to people's basest instincts and if he does all the things he claims he will, practically everyone in America will be hurt.

He feels that Mexicans are 'polluting the blood' of the American people, the Haitians were eating cats and dogs. The blacks were getting jobs via DEI (Didn't Earn It) that should have gone to mediocre white men. He wants to go back to the 'good old days' before the Equal Rights Amendment, so that the black people can be forced to the back of the bus and get poor treatment throughout their lives. He told the white people that he is going to get rid of 'Obama care', they lapped it up because they didn't want anything associated with that black man. They want the Hispanic people and illegal immigrants punished and put out of the country, but they don't think about prosecuting the white owned construction companies and farms that employ these people. The whites haven't mowed their own lawns, cleaned their own houses or watched their own children in the last generation but want to hurt the workers who do this work.

How is he going to help the country when he is planning wars against all of America's allies - Canada, Greenland/Denmark, Panama, Mexico? He hasn't threatened anyone who he fears will hit back like China or Iran.

How is he going to help the country when he dismantles the Department of Education, cuts back on affordable healthcare and cuts social security (pensions) to fund tax cuts for people who are already very rich?
