Is it really that wrong to want for your country what Trump stands for?

1000 replies

Anniedash · 20/01/2025 06:51

I know that there are plenty of threads on Trump at the moment, but most of them are designed to rubbish the guy. That’s been done to death in the last 10 years.

He has still won two presidential elections so perhaps it’s time to move the discussion on a bit.Let’s put aside Trump’s personality, bluster, and whether he will deliver or not, for a second.

Is it really so wrong and bad to want to go for what his core message is? Why is the far right label used so liberally and will we ever see a government in this country which can tackle this madness -

A stop to or huge reduction in illegal immigration

Putting your own country first ahead of internationalism. It’s not a novel idea and certainly not a byword for automatically wanting war. In fact Trump’s argument is that war is bad

Saying no the climate hysteria. Climate change is real but climate emergency seems to be a made up concept to simply tax people to death to re distribute taxes to government lobbyists. Why should people accept being poorer in the name of this dangerous ideology

Putting a stop to woke madness. When did it become ok for state sponsored mutilation of children? Men pretending to be women in prison and hospitals getting access to women’s spaces. People being sanctioned do not using the correct pronouns

Driving the economy forward and putting a stop to endless freebies for those who have no intention of contributing to the system and refuse to work because they are sad.

The fact that someone as eccentric as Trump has to fly the flag for common sense ideas shows you just how batshit the political discourse has become.

Strip them of ALL rights? A little.... hyperbolic, wouldn't you say?

It's taking away an extra 'right' that women have that men don't - the ability to hire someone to murder their unborn child.

Edited

What? Men and women both have bodily autonomy. This is not an “extra” right women have.

Also if you don’t know that medically necessary abortions exist, just say that.

And it’s not “murder of an unborn child” - it’s declining to make their organs available for the biological use of another.

I just hope he manages to roll back the madness of transgender ideology which has caused so much harm. If he can get violent men out of women's prisons, half puberty blockers and ' gender affirming surgery ' on young people, and stop men competing in women's sports then he will have done something really useful, which actually benefits women worldwide.

Will it benefit women worldwide? None of the American women I know are in prison or being forced to take puberty blockers or competing in sport at a level where they personally are impacted by trans people in their category. I don’t agree with having trans people compete in women’s sport but how many lives is this really impacting?

Banning abortion and blocking access to reproductive healthcare will impact far more women.

You need to be more precise in your racism. Try English pilgrims. White to be precise. Got it, now continue in your uneducated rambling...

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, more than 300,000 white people were shipped to America from England as slaves. Prisons were emptied and Urchins were swept up from London's streets to labor in the tobacco fields, where life expectancy was no more than two years. Brothels were raided to provide “breeders” for Virginia.

@Pin3martin

"Hope for what?"

Hope to stop the slow managed decline of both western economies and societies.

And accelerating global warming and extreme weather patterns to name but one of his laughable policies is helping to do that how exactly?

Hope for a better life and who knows whether he will succeed or not. I feel as though most people have lost hope in the UK which is very sad.

Which was criticised - but this was protection for his son from politically motivated prosecution - 1 person, vs. the release of 1,500 actually violent criminals some if who attacked police officers during their rapage.

Are those equal do you think?

He did not just pardon his son. He pardoned his whole family and several other people too. Not just for any past misdemeanor but for future crimes as well. That is the big issue. How can he pardon these people for any future crimes they might commit? He pardoned 5 members of his family in addition to Hunter who he pardoned previously.

A lot of people have the mistaken belief that only unwanted pregnancies end in abortion.

6 family members and Dr Fauci as protection from potentially politically motivated prosecutions is the equivalent to you of pardoning 1,500 actually violent criminals some of whom attacked police officers?

I’m with you OP. Had a conversation just this morning with a couple of parents after school drop off and we are all pro-Trump.

I know of 4 families leaving the UK thanks to Labour’s policies. More will follow.

This socialist government will end up making the UK a third world country. It’s about time things swung to the right again.

Labour are not socialist. What policies are causing you to want to leave the country please? What makes you support trump?

@LalaPaloosa2024 I don’t understand why people are pro-Trump, he’s a convicted felon, a womaniser, a liar. The Donald is the first president in US history to be impeached twice, after being charged with "incitement of insurrection". But yeah, he’s the new messiah…

We’ve had 14 years of a right wing government who were running the country into the ground with their self-serving behaviours and policies. The Tories always used to be the champion of small businesses but somewhere along the way they changed.

“A leading Brexiteer [Jacob Rees Mogg] has suggested it could take 50 years to judge whether Brexit has been an economic success amid fears quitting the European Union will lead to a downturn.” We were warned but waiting 50 years to reap the benefits was deemed a fair exchange.

Labour don’t have all the answers but they inherited a country in a dismal state and are struggling to turn the economy around. No doubt the country will swing to the right again but we’re only six months in with Labour.

Jennifershuffles · 21/01/2025 21:39

Why is the far right label used?
Was Elon musk's Nazi salute enough to answer this question?

Tories had previously inherited far worse from labour. A reason someone may be pro trump is his ability to influence various wars, (and possibly highly impact resolving them) kinda big stuff right? Actual real problems.

CyanMaker · 21/01/2025 21:49

Who in their right mind would vote for a convicted felon? The fact that Trump got elected speaks to how many peop!e have a "screw loose". His first term was a disaster. He's gotten more insane and full of himself since then. On his first day as president he pardoned 1500 people who were in jail due to their violent actions during the insurrection. He has lined up Cabinet members who will follow his orders or be fired. All the prayers in the world won't fix this.

Bollindger · 21/01/2025 21:52

Trump won because there is so much going wrong in the USA that more people were willing to trust him than what they already had.
Can you actually understand just how bad things had to be for that to be the answer.
So can we talk about that...!

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 21/01/2025 21:56

God some of these comments are ridiculous! The world the last 4 years have been a mess with a president who’s literally asleep at the wheel. For a president to announce that there is 2 genders just shows how mad this world has actually been. I am so please Trump is the president again and I just hope we can all get back to some common sense and the changes he makes trickles down to us!!

It’s not surprising that the irrational Trump derangement syndrome is alive and well on this thread.

In any case, the point of the thread was not to litigate Trump. Because the derangement syndrome kicks in the moment someone mentions his name. The idea was to talk about the ideas the people are voting for

I haven’t seen one good argument against those ideas except for ‘blah far right’, ‘blah blah daily fail’, ‘blah blah blah Hitler’.

Why is it so difficult for those on the left to have a discussion without jumping to personal insults or just outright hysteria. The left shouts the loudest and pays the price at the ballot box. That’s the direction of travel.

So glad I don’t have people like you in my life
