I'm quite looking forward to this. And wondered if anyone else was. I don't expect so but thought I would ask anyway!

Well yes that's also partly why it's historic, let me have a think... 🙄

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/01/2025 21:53

Re-educate people!

What are you talking about? Who is doing this? To what end?Confused

This is an AIBU about a politically divisive figure, of course people are going to disagree with @Viviennemary's POV. Stop with your allegations of victimhood. You are simply being disagreed with.

cardibach · 18/01/2025 21:48

Why is it a historic moment? It happens every 4 years. Unless you mean it’s the first time a criminal has been the focus?

A convicted felon maybe, hardly the first time it's been a criminal.

@wholettheturnipsburn

It just boring if people are looking out for threads to jump on to "re educate" people.

The op and not many others have said they adore trump. Looking forward to watching something doesn't mean much, it's a very historical occasion and at the moment in time a sensitive one.

It's a bit like people who don't support the monarchy watching the coronation and enjoying it.

If someone said they were watching Charles being crowned and I was a staunch Republican I wouldn't jump down people's throats about how outdated the monarchy is.

I wouldn't assume I know why they are watching it.

Why is it ‘very hostoric’. They happen every four years. Well. maybe not in the future if Trump is to be believed. Are you thinking it’s historic because it will be the last?

Luminousalumnus · 18/01/2025 21:58

Do you really believe that the Gaza cease-fire (please may it hold) would have come about without Trumps input? There is very little to suggest it would. I would hate to have to spend time with him personally, but people, including Israel are wary of him - all to the good.

Fair…

I am.
BIGLY

Do you remember just a few months ago when that senile old fool was swaying to music for lengthy periods of time at his low-energy "rallies" - or fellating a microphone?

How on earth is it cause for celebration that a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, lifelong grifter with thousands of lawsuits and stiffed vendors in his wake, ignorant of history, vulgar misogynist, hypocrite whose wives have both been immigrants with "anchor babies," (the type of women he wants to bar), anti-environmentalist, failed multi-bankrupt vindicitive elderly fool will be the most powerful person in the world?

I think that poster was joking. Look at the user name. 😀

Don't worry about the anti vaxxer 'health rep', we can all inject some bleach. Maybe that's what's happened to DTs voters? They took his advice?

Trump supporters only get their kicks from goading and upsetting people which is why this thread was written, to goad and upset people, and keep that feeling going.

You can't be a Trump supporter and be a kind, good person, unless you're taking in so much echo chamber lies about Trump (which is more than possible, I suppose) that you don't even hear or know the bad stuff, like...

...child deportations last time round. I'll never forget that audio of the child in the deportation centre played outside a courtroom once. A lot of people including kids are going to have to suffer now.

As for winning democratically, well that doesn't mean it was a good decision does it. I remember a short Austrian bloke bring voted in democratically in the 1930s in Germany and that didn't go so well did it?

It’s interesting you say this and I agree about the echo chamber.

What a lot of people don’t realise is for example you only watch Fox News you would think the man was a saint and had never done anything wrong while at the same time saving the world.

Honesrly it is pretty frightening. And because it’s ‘news’ people believe it to be true and a real reflection of him. They never say anything he has done wrong or if for example on his indictments it’s all a witch hunt from the Democrats.

I can see how people would support Trump if they were ‘brainwashed’ by Fox News.

People are given a very glossed version of him and I can see how if you only watched Fox News for example you would be a Trump supporter.

Add onto that Biden who is pretty drink and struggles at time and Kamala who as a black woman never had a chance, again you can see why people believe this

Politics in the US are very different to here and it’s extremely simplistic to say that Trump supporters are dumb or uneducated.

Hard agree. All those things have happened under the tories so hopefully things will change now. They’ve already deported 20% more foreign criminals than the tories did if you’re interested in those things.

This is not about theTories. The Tories were socialism personified. They are finished. At least for a generation. And they deserve it.

Labour are times worse, that’s the problem. They are busy setting fire to the dumpster of an economy that we have.

ThatEllie · 19/01/2025 02:30

I’m looking forward to seeing that teenager of his towering over everyone around him. Did they say he’s up to 6’9” now? For some reason the sight of such a baby-faced young man looming over all the politicians cracks me up.

What good things did Joe Biden do in office that directly made the lives of US citizen better? I can't remember a single thing

Maybe a government does not need to intervene to make people's lives better. Maybe a government needs to step in only to prevent problems before they arise. I am not in favour of 'big state' because it concentrates wealth and power into ideologies and/ or corruption.

Abhannmor · 19/01/2025 16:38

Well it won't be boring. I'm betting the tech bros will download his brain into a cool robot Trump. And he'll be immortal and stay in office for all our lives. I mean it's not like anyone will say ' hey wait a minute, doesn't the President sound a bit weird?....'

And those thousands of Californians who are homeless and destitute....well if only someone had heeded his sensible advice - sweep up the leaves guys.

VonHally · 19/01/2025 17:39

Nothing can be done now, he's the President from tomorrow. I don't have any time for him, Musk or any of his acolytes.

However, if he gets over the line re Gaza, Ukraine, and gives Putin a fright, well those are big positives IMV.

It's the hard right conservative element in the Supreme Court and at State level that bothers me a lot regarding womens' rights. And the neglect of Climate change, and the immigrant issue, and, and, and. Add your own!

We shall see.

JanuaryBluehoo · 19/01/2025 19:42

And so it begins 😜 I'm watching Melania and Don looking very bored at the fireworks they are really struggling...

JHound · 19/01/2025 19:50

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/01/2025 19:48

He really doesn't. He bragged about walking into the Miss World dressing rooms unannounced and no one could say anything.

Most misogynists don't wear dresses.

It’s weird that the people who are normally sk vehemently opposed to “men in women’s bathrooms / changing rooms” never have an issue with the fact he did this.

It’s not like this will be be a “first” of any kind. Just an inauguration ceremony which happens fairly regularly.

I'd love to see any evidence for that bizarre assertion.

JanuaryBluehoo · 19/01/2025 21:38

It's fascinating what I've seen already and I think it's important to watch

Why fascinating? Why important? Going to need more detail to understand. They happen every 4 years. There’s nothing unusual about this one except it’s the first with a convicted felon being inaugurated, which doesn’t make it something I’m interested in. Oh, and it’s inside so he doesn’t have to lie about the numbers there.

cardibach · 19/01/2025 22:25

Abhannmor · 19/01/2025 20:46

What assertion? That people who like his stance on trans matters don’t object to his blatant sexism and history of rape/sexual impropriety? It’s what I’ve noticed. They bang on about not caring as long as he protects ‘women’s rights’ in a very small area of the topic.
