Original thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5252894-child-didnt-get-a-party-bag?page=40&reply=141398805

To all the baked potato loving legends out there who followed my original thread, I couldn’t resist sharing what I think is a rather funny update.

So I’ve been away for a work conference today and didn’t check my phone til 2pm. Amanda had called me again! And messaged to say “Jandami can you call me please when you get the chance so I can find out what to ask this magician?”

I assume she means she wants to find out if I’ll pay for a party bag. So I messaged DH (who is fully invested in the drama) laughing about it. I didn’t reply to her as had to go back in the conference (and still haven’t replied only just got home).

Anyway at pick up, DH was standing in the playground waiting for DS and Amanda sidled up to him and said “Excuse me Neil? Is your wife’s phone broken?” (emphasis on the ‘is’ apparently). He just looked at her, said “No” and walked off to wait at the other side of the playground 😂 the best bit is - his name is not Neil!

I can only assume she’s either micro dosing with hallucinogenics or is genuinely mad. Nobody normal behaves this way.

PS jacket potato with pancetta, cheese, soured cream and chives tonight 🤤

£9!! That’s fucking ridiculous!

She's a crank. Next she'll be ordering the party bag from the magician and invoicing you.

This is a good point actually OP, I think in your shoes I'd send the magician a message saying that if he gets some mad woman wanting to order a goody bag in your name, he bills her NOT you!!

Just butter, no cheese? Daylight robbery. And I bet the cutlery was that awful wood stuff that makes my teeth itch.

No cheese. Or even salad! Salad was an extra £3!
bless her she looked pathetic with her crap tasteless potato 😂

murasaki · 16/01/2025 19:22

I bet there wasn't even enough butter.

That is a good point! I’d die of embarrassment if anything like that happened.

And you just know the salad would be iceberg lettuce and one sad wedge of an aged tomato.

wriggleigglepiggle · 16/01/2025 19:23

Ignore her, she's a loon

It was two of those little rectangular packets you get when you go to a condiments station. Unacceptable.

I used to get people’s names wrong all the time when I was perimenopausal. And got really forgetful with life admin. It’s horrible when people sneer at you for it or if the kids get messed about because of your muff ups.

But I’d never demand a party bag and special pizza to be ordered for my kid.

WickWood · 16/01/2025 19:24

I love it, I hope when my baby starts school there is an Amanda, so much entertainment. Just hope I'm not her 🤣

Well she didn't forget to turn up though, did she.

UndermyShoeJoe · 16/01/2025 19:26

She’s completely lost it. Definitely wanting you to order it for her as she can’t work it out bless her poor silly head hehehe… so she gets her Dominos vegan pizza £12 party bag and party all in exchange for her £2 colouring in book and bad manners.

Scottishskifun · 16/01/2025 19:26

Just catching up with thread 1 and 2 my word the phrase entitled much?! Doesn't quite cut it!

Definitely no wrong on your part!

The CF at kids parties is insane.....DS1 5th birthday I got a message from a mum asking if her son could come as his friends had been speaking about it....he didn't attend the same nursery and my son had played with him once in the park as part of a group!

I do chuckle at the why not have a party in a park comments clearly don't have a winter born!

DowntonNabby · 16/01/2025 19:26

Just read the first thread. Bloody hell. Cannot believe some people are insisting OP should've had spare party bags for the offspring of CF parents who couldn't be bothered to RSVP.

murasaki · 16/01/2025 19:27

The temptation to post the colouring book through her letterbox would be immense. I wouldn't do it, but I'd want to.

Bananasyousay · 16/01/2025 19:27

Block her! She will be seething 😂

TBF DS loves to colour and has enjoyed it, much to my secret chagrin 🤣(just kidding)

Well that's good, he's had a rough time so anything that brings a smile is a good thing.

Mugcake · 16/01/2025 19:30

He should have just replied "who's Neil?" And left. I actually can't believe she's still chasing you for it! It's not about her child at this point, it's about not wanting to pay for it. Her behaviour is ridiculous!

Also why have I never thought of putting Sour cream on a baked potato? Sounds lush!

momtoboys · 16/01/2025 19:30

Redbushteaforme · 16/01/2025 18:36

This might be an entertaining saga but it is also very mean-spirited. Reminds me of a gang of mean girls at school being horrible about a fellow pupil, and it is not a good look, or a good example to be setting to children.

I really hope the mother involved is not a Mumsnetter. OK, so she has behaved badly but can you imagine how absolutely soul-destroying it would be to find out that you are being mocked in this way on the internet, with details provided which would make it clear that it is about her (and which are probably also identifiable to other parents at the school/party concerned), and to see that a long line of Mumsnet mean girls are piling in with nasty comments and suggestions.

I hope she is reading every post. If you are going to take the piss then you had better be prepared to be called out on it. As one previous poster said, her behavior is probably why poor James has no friends.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 16/01/2025 19:30

I am so invested in this thread! Well sticking to your guns OP.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 16/01/2025 19:35

It’s a shame she wasn’t this fond of her phone when she was meant to be RSVPing.

Soubriquet · 16/01/2025 19:39

I don’t like butter in my potato…so I would have had to fork out for a bit of cheese unless I sat there eating a plain potato

but I would also ask for the cheese separate as I don’t like it all melted on potato either
