Party bag gate part 2 - enter DH stage left

Original thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5252894-child-didnt-get-a-party-bag?page=40&reply=141398805

To all the baked potato loving legends out there who followed my original thread, I couldn’t resist sharing what I think is a rather funny update.

So I’ve been away for a work conference today and didn’t check my phone til 2pm. Amanda had called me again! And messaged to say “Jandami can you call me please when you get the chance so I can find out what to ask this magician?”

I assume she means she wants to find out if I’ll pay for a party bag. So I messaged DH (who is fully invested in the drama) laughing about it. I didn’t reply to her as had to go back in the conference (and still haven’t replied only just got home).

Anyway at pick up, DH was standing in the playground waiting for DS and Amanda sidled up to him and said “Excuse me Neil? Is your wife’s phone broken?” (emphasis on the ‘is’ apparently). He just looked at her, said “No” and walked off to wait at the other side of the playground 😂 the best bit is - his name is not Neil!

I can only assume she’s either micro dosing with hallucinogenics or is genuinely mad. Nobody normal behaves this way.

PS jacket potato with pancetta, cheese, soured cream and chives tonight 🤤

Brilliant response from your DH

Kell0710 · 16/01/2025 18:33

I'm watching too invested in this. Op i think you are 100% right

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 16/01/2025 18:34

She sounds more unhinged by the day.

FruminariaBandersnatchiosum · 16/01/2025 18:36

@JandamiHash why don't you buy a party bag for the kid but get it personalised with the name - Neil.

If she kicks off, you can tell her that she started it!

Redbushteaforme · 16/01/2025 18:36

This might be an entertaining saga but it is also very mean-spirited. Reminds me of a gang of mean girls at school being horrible about a fellow pupil, and it is not a good look, or a good example to be setting to children.

I really hope the mother involved is not a Mumsnetter. OK, so she has behaved badly but can you imagine how absolutely soul-destroying it would be to find out that you are being mocked in this way on the internet, with details provided which would make it clear that it is about her (and which are probably also identifiable to other parents at the school/party concerned), and to see that a long line of Mumsnet mean girls are piling in with nasty comments and suggestions.

TomatoSandwiches · 16/01/2025 18:39

I can't believe she accosted Neil!

She's obviously short of a rabbit in her hat 😂

Poor James.

VodkaCola · 16/01/2025 18:40

I was amused yesterday but it's all too much now.

These sort of threads always bring out the worst of MN.People get carried away and are desperate to be part of the gang.

If you don't want to be mocked on the internet, don't be a massive dickhead in real life.

I am loving this! OP you are so witty and use language in such a descriptive way that I can visualise everyone involved especially the Amanda behave-a-like person.

FoxtonFoxton · 16/01/2025 18:41

Just block her completely. She knows what to ask the magician -anyone would, it's very simple. She just wants you to ring him and to pay. That's the angle. I certainly wouldn't stir up anything in the playground, I'd still smile and say hi in passing. I just wouldn't be entertaining any further calls and messages about a bloody kids party bag. It's ridiculous.

NotAPartyPerson · 16/01/2025 18:46

Am wondering if she's seen this thread and 'Neil' is a nod to your username?!

(Assuming you are a Gavin and Stacey fan, and not a connoisseur of Indian food.)

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/01/2025 18:47

It might be worth giving the magician the heads up about CF Amanda.

Does Not Neil get to sample the potato fillings?

(My preference is to serve the aforementioned vegetable with Coronation Chicken- a true classic)

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 16/01/2025 18:48

I've just read the last updates on the other thread.. she's a loon😂

CountessWindyBottom · 16/01/2025 18:49

I find the heady combination of cheekyfuckery and batshittery absolutely hilarious. Poor James. I know a mother just like this who has coached her son to be the most terminally offended child ever, who cries at the drop of a hat and who then wonders why he is not embraced with open arms by all in sundry.

The whole situation is entirely of her own making and yet she wants YOU to rectify it @JandamiHash.

And who on God’s green earth takes leftovers home from a party they weren’t even due to attend in the first place? Food that the host had to order specifically?

I really hope Amanda is on here. Please identify yourself if you are Amanda and we can hear you’re saaaaid of the story as well as it just beggars belief how anyone could be this entitled.

OP im backing you all the way, i couldnt believe the shite you were getting on the other thread!

thing is if you gave in and did get him a party bag, it will just keep Amanda thinking that pestering and being so entitled and rude will in fact mean she will always get her way. Hopefully this is a lesson to her that her rudeness and entitlement actually has a negative effect on her son, which is a shame but she only has herself to blame

stick to your guns xoxo

honeybeetheoneandonly · 16/01/2025 18:50

Her question might be genuine. Did you just pick X amount of items, if so which ones or was it "bundle 12a"?
I would let her know what the personalised party bag contained and then ignore any further communication.

Therealjudgejudy · 16/01/2025 18:50

The woman is a nut job..

Your JP on the other hand sounds amazing!

This is probably accurate. I had relations do this to me - ask over & over but never follow my advice or do anything for themselves. In hindsight it became obvious that all their questions were just lining me up to pay, because no other explanation made sense. It didn't work, because (hilariously) I didn't catch on to what they really wanted, so I couldn't understand why they kept asking me different things & never using the info I gave them. I just kept being helpful with info & suggestions about what they might do. Only afterwards did I put 2 & 2 together.

I used to know a guy whose catchphrase was, "You can't insult me, madam, I'm too stupid". For me that seems to be, "You can't CF me, I'm too oblivious".

Totally agree with your reactions and handling of the situation. Very cheeky to turn up when not rsvp’d and equally as rude to not show up when you have said yes to invite. How would you have reacted to that scenario especially as the party bags were personalised

Nonaynevernomore · 16/01/2025 18:53

Where is Amanda aka @lostcat on this thread?

But whyyyyyy didn’t you get a personalised party bag for someone you didn’t know was coming??

fairyup · 16/01/2025 18:55

Off topic but a genuine question.

Why is mumsnet so aggy about the term 'Karen' but 'Amanda' as a derogatory term is okay.
