What 3 things are keeping you in your current job?

I’ve been thinking about my current job lately - it’s stressful, with tight deadlines and a lot of pressure, and I’ve seriously considered quitting. But despite the challenges, there are a few perks that are keeping me here longer than any of my previous roles:

  1. Stock options
  2. Free lunch and bottomless snacks/drinks
  3. Travel opportunities

What’s keeping you in your current job, even if it’s not ideal? Are there perks or reasons that make you stay or do you just love what you do?

Pay
Leave entitlement
Pension

That's about all I think!

TheWonderhorse · 16/01/2025 09:15

My job doesn't pay a lot. But!

It's manageable with my anxiety disorder.

I am my own boss.

I meet loads of dogs.

Iamblossom · 16/01/2025 09:17

This is a good thread and timely for me, as I have had to make a decision about whether to stay or go recently.

Mine would be:

My manager, best I've ever had

Opportunities for progression

WFH, so very flexible

LiamNeesonIsADerryGirl · 16/01/2025 09:17

I enjoy most aspects of what I do, my co workers are great and the hours/my boss are very flexible around my children.

Backinthedress · 16/01/2025 09:17

Good pay
Hardly any actual work
No other offers, I am actually looking.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 16/01/2025 09:18

Pay
Agile working
Good management

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/01/2025 09:18

It means I can have a dog as wfh

Lovely people in my immediate team

Honestly? I can't be bothered to move even though my job is quite boring and unfulfilling
(When the dc are older I will look for something new but this suits me for now)

Tcsha · 16/01/2025 09:19

Flexibility
salary
low workload

ZoeRuby · 16/01/2025 09:19

Flexible hours
Option of term time only working
Great manager

TheKeatingFive · 16/01/2025 09:19

Pay
Short commute
Workload (it's all relative, but compared to anywhere else I've worked)

tulippa · 16/01/2025 09:20
  1. It's really interesting.
  2. To a large extent I plan and manage my own working week, sometimes working from home, sometimes at different sites.
  3. The outcomes of my work make a positive difference to people's lives.
biscuitsandbooks · 16/01/2025 09:20

Money
Being my own boss
Getting to work with animals

Also, the flexibility of being self-employed which is incredible - I'm not sure I could ever go back to working for someone else now.

Jelodah · 16/01/2025 09:21

My colleagues
Cannot think of any other positive reasons!!

redgingerbread · 16/01/2025 09:21

Inertia/lack of confidence to try something new (I’ve been here for nearly 15 years and am institutionalised!)

Some of the work is really interesting and satisfying

The people are mostly great

AlwaysFreezing · 16/01/2025 09:21

Nothing. Today is my last day.

What had kept me here for as long as I have stayed was

Some degree of flexibility
Sense of loyalty (ridiculous and I will never do that again)
I'm good at it.

Reasons I'm leaving

The commute is shit.
I didn't want the promotions that came up
I'm underpaid, under used and bored.

Roll on next week!

Ilikewinter · 16/01/2025 09:22

Biggest reason - I've been granted a WFH contract which has enabled me to make a long desired move near the coast and to be closer to my family.

Then it would be colleagues, pension and I actually like my job !

MrsSethGecko · 16/01/2025 09:22

It fits around the child's school hours

I don't have to work weekends or school holidays

I like it.

Ultravox · 16/01/2025 09:22

Money
Colleagues
Flexibility

I don’t like the actual job but the above keeps me from quitting.

Enterthewolves · 16/01/2025 09:23
  1. Pay/pension
  2. Job is aligned with my personal values
  3. I left my last job after four months so need to be in this one for at least two years so my CV balances

Pay

That's about all I think!

Nailed it!

peachescariad · 16/01/2025 09:23

My own room.....(so I can surf MN!)

School holidays (work term time only)

Pension pot

Peccary · 16/01/2025 09:24

Flexibility and being left to manage my own time and workload which is a godsend when husband is away working.

I am looking to leave though, would take small a pay cut for more annual leave and a better pension

Porcuporpoise · 16/01/2025 09:25

The job itself and the peopleI work with
The pay (not amazing but would still be hard to find a similar job paying more)
The flexibility (offered in lieu of really good pay)

GenerousGardener · 16/01/2025 09:25
  1. pay
  2. Im over 60 and won’t be employed anywhere else.
  3. staff discount.
vincettenoir · 16/01/2025 09:25

Leadership, flexibility, it suits my skills.
