What 3 things are keeping you in your current job?

I’ve been thinking about my current job lately - it’s stressful, with tight deadlines and a lot of pressure, and I’ve seriously considered quitting. But despite the challenges, there are a few perks that are keeping me here longer than any of my previous roles:

  1. Stock options
  2. Free lunch and bottomless snacks/drinks
  3. Travel opportunities

What’s keeping you in your current job, even if it’s not ideal? Are there perks or reasons that make you stay or do you just love what you do?

I love my job. Best salary I've ever earned, far less stress, managed myself.

Good salary
Good pension
Easy commute
Basically design and manage my own role
Very low stress
My knowledge is respected

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 16/01/2025 13:54

Flexible/understanding manager
Easy workload
Good money

I work in an interesting field, one that people don't aim to join and just kind of fall into by accident and then never leave.

Hardly any actual work
No other offers, I am actually looking.

What do you do?!?

dontcrowdthemushrooms · 16/01/2025 14:00

A great boss, high salary for the industry, and the third one would be a toss up between interesting work, hybrid working, and a dog-friendly office!

I have been toying with finding a new job. I could earn more else where but my reasons for staying are 1) My manager, the most understanding manager I have ever had I can attend hospital apts, school things and wfh on my non allocated days if my kids are sick l. He is very understanding as long as you don't take the piss. 2) The flexibility l- I can wfh minimum twice a week and start later/finish early if needed again as ok don't take the piss 3) My colleagues. I love them like family and they are some of my closest friends.

Leopardprintisaneutral · 16/01/2025 14:08

Great holidays/public sector pension
A genuine sense of satisfaction in helping the community and bringing people together
The best colleagues ever - there's something hilarious every day

Hillarious · 16/01/2025 14:10

Free lunch
Final salary pension
Great social events

New line manager is terrible, and she has now given me that one reason to go.

  1. Super flexible. Actual contract is very low with the option to pick up to 40 extra hours per week if needed
  2. Weekly pay
  3. Lovely friendly team of people. Manager is stern but straightforward and I like that!
TheGirlWhoLived · 16/01/2025 14:15

Oh I wanted to add I can leave it all behind at the end of day. Which I couldn’t when I worked in mental health!

Rarelybutsometimesunreasonable · 16/01/2025 14:25
  1. Salary to work life balance ratio is best I’ve ever had
  2. Hands off manager who lets me get on with things without interference
  3. Stock options
NeedToChangeName · 16/01/2025 14:28
  1. I love it
  1. I'm good at it
  1. Reasonably well paid for reasonable hours
neverbeenskiing · 16/01/2025 14:28

I love it

I have a good work/life balance, 13 weeks off a year, no evenings or weekends and flexibility to wfh if I need to.

Every day is different
